Strengths: Nice screen Fingerprint reader Easy setup
Weaknesses: No bluetooth Battery life
Summary: The screen is gorgeous (no dead pixels) and is a major improvement over my laptop. Works like a dream, does not come with a bunch of useless applications like some systems do. Setup was quick and easy straight out of the box.

The fingerprint reader is nice and saves a lot of time when entering passwords. The model I received does not actually include bluetooth connectivity as listed in some product descriptions, in this I'm mildly disappointed. The battery life is a little shorter than I would have liked, I haven't tested it extensively yet but at an hour and a half I was down to less than 40% off a full charge.

Overall its not a bad laptop and will be fine for my work as a web developer when I'm away from home.

3 Star ReviewVAIO VGN-BX563B
Strengths: its Sony...
Weaknesses: cheap construction, made in China
Summary: price wise with special Sony rebates ($600 for old Sony or $400 any laptop) good deal.

compare to other PC's well a lot of options, almost all though optional.

Better spend extra $100 and get HP with 200% more stuff

:-)))

3 Star ReviewGood for Home Use
Strengths: Beautiful screen. Slick Sony design.
Weaknesses: Runs hot. The fan is constantly on. Low battery life.
Summary: The laptop looks good on the outside. Sony knows how to make goo looking stuff. The screen looks really good. With the Xbrite feature it is a pleasure to watch movies on it. The fingerprint reader is a nice touch but I never really found a use for it.

Couple of bad things is that it runs hot. As I type my I can feel the heat on the laptop keyboard. Another thing is that after I upgraded the firmware the fan is constantly running. Making a bit loud. Finally it needs a better battery life.

If you are going to use the laptop at home mostly I would recommend it. If you are going to take it around a bit then I say look for another one.

Strengths: Screen is so much better compared to my older sony laptop. The fingerprint reader is an advantage. Besides being cool its functional (I asked others to use it and it wouldnt read)
Weaknesses: Battery life could be better. Bluetooth is the norm now a days so I was kinda disappointed. Also it should have had a dvd writer
Summary: Overall a great lil computer. It weighs in the 6 pound region but at the same time is a 15.4 inch with a good keyboard. I would have loved bluetooth and dvd writer but the drive is swappable, so shouldnt be a problem :)

Strengths: After rebate, cost is minimal; widescreen display; one open memory slot; DDR2; SATA HD
Weaknesses: Old technology for processor
Summary: Current Tradeup rebate will cut the price up to $600 for those with an only Sony laptop. The rebate makes this a good option, but don't expect anything special. DDR2 and a SATA HD makes this decent, but the processor is a tad slow -- just a matter of you get what you pay for.

3 Star ReviewSony VAIO VGN-BX563B PC Notebook
Strengths: Solid Body, Fingerprint reader, XP Pro button mouse, slick design, Bright screen
Weaknesses: Old processor, No BT, No DVD burner, Low battery life
Summary: Very nice laptop for the price. Couple more upgrades by sony could have made this laptop a real charm. Its a shame it doesn't come with DVDRW.

The screen is pretty bright and the finger print reader works nicely.

Not many crappy preloaded softwares on the laptop which makes the setup easy and you don't have to waste time deleting stuff.

The hard drive got really hot while i was setting up the laptop without the battery.

Over all a good laptop if you can get it at a reasonable price.

Strengths: Nice wide screen. Full control of brightness and contrast. Good for multimedia.
Weaknesses: Get hot. Fan goes on very often.
Summary: To solve the problem of getting hot, I bought a laptop cooler and disabled some sony software. I got this laptop from the Sony trade up program. Recommend for office use but not for travel due to the short battery life.

Strengths: stylish, beautiful screen
Weaknesses: a bit heavy, no bluetooth,
Summary: It's sony. So I can expect it's expensive than others just for the brand. Not so impressive configuration. But it is enough for daily use, web surf. That's what I will do with it. I hope it can be a 5 lbs instead of more than 6 lbs. Too heavy to carry it everyday.

Strengths: Very stlyish and thin. very bright LCD
Weaknesses: expensive.
Summary: It's a fantastic laptop and I have to say, I spent my money well on it. The processor's speed is great! It runs smoothly. When you power on your laptop, the logo appearance screen tends to take awhile to load before proceeding to the Windows XP screen. it is very portable and thin. it has good wireless reception

3 Star ReviewSony - the one and only?
Strengths: Beautiful 15.4" Widescreen, Sony label.
Weaknesses: Heat, speakers, not really the one and only, battery not the greatest.
Summary: These days Sony finds that it is not the one and only when it comes to anything. Look how the landscape has changed:

.

Past Sony Dominance

Walkman

Trinitron/XBR

PS/PS2

Beta

Aibo

Vaio

.

Present Day

iPod

Samsung/LG HDTV LCD

XBOX360

VHS->DVD

iRobot

Apple

.

One area where it might get some headway is Bluray (along with PS3), but that remains to be seen.

.

This laptop screen uses the Eco Xbrite technology, which is less bright than the regular Xbrite technology but still very good. Viewing angle side to side is excellent, vertically it is average.

.

There's nothing really that distinguishes this laptop from the rest of the gang. With a IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad I get a solid looking machine that looks like it means business while being rugged at the same time, with good features all around. With an Apple MacBook I get innovation with a pleasant operating system and more cute useful innovations like the maglock AC power plug. What do you get with the Sony? It doesn't look sleek. It doesn't weigh little. It doesn't have anything different that elevates it above the rest other than the price.

.

To add a bit of insult, the built in speakers are extremely weak. My comparable Acer is like that too.. but hey, it cost more than 2 times less.

.

Other complaints include less than stellar battery life, excessive heat (people who upgrade the BIOS complain that the fan is on all the time and is somewhat noisy). So, if you buy this laptop, make sure NOT to upgrade the BIOS as there is no known way to downgrade. Instead, buy a laptop cooling device (with USB powered fans) to keep the heat down.

.

Is this a bad laptop? Not really. But it's not a very good one either.. and I expect alot more from Sony.

Strengths: Great design. Famous brand.
Weaknesses: The performance of video card is weak. A little bit pricey.
Summary: 2006-10-01 21:34:10 Got this laptop for more than 1 week. I bought it for my personal use. It's much faster than my old laptop which has a celeron 700Mhz inside. I'm really confused before purchase since its description is not very clear, I even not sure whether it has bluetooth integrated or not. I searched a lot online and still no clue. Anyway bluetooth is not so important for me, just went ahead and placed the order. The wide screen is beautiful. It's awesome to watch DVDs on it. Also as usual, comes with a lots of junk softwares. I did a clean reinstallation after receiving it. Now it just works as what I desired. I'm happy with it.

2 Star Reviewa okay desktop replacement
Strengths: Beautiful screen Fingerprint Reader
Weaknesses: Small touchpad Never stop fan cheap speaker Small keyboard
Summary: I bought this laptop when SONY closed out this series. I think they didn't design this BX series pretty well. First, the system keeps running all the time even I left the computer there without doing anything. I think the fan noise is a little bit loud for me. Second, it's a 15" wide screen model, but they design the touch pad just as big as my 12" laptop. I finally decide to have a small USB mice instead. The same thing happend on the keyboard, I think they use the same keyboard they used on the 14" screen model without design a better layout to fit in the 15" wide screen. Besides, the speaker quality is not so good. I think the only thing good for this laptop is the price. SONY provides a trade in deal to lower the price down to around $300.

3 Star ReviewNormal laptop with OK configurations
Strengths: wireless,figureprint, card reader(SD, MMC)
Weaknesses: no bluetooth, a bit heavy, sound quality is not very good
Summary: 2006-09-27 19:56:38 I recently upgrade my old laptop to this sony VGN BX563B. First of my expectation for a laptop is not very high, since I do the huge computation and large dataset in my desktop computer. I simply use laptop to surf internet, process paper, watch video clips, listen music and do presentation.

The CPU of BX563B is not a lastest product but I am fine with that. 60G hard drive and 512M memory are enough for me as well for the above usage. The LCD is bright and looks good, figureprint and card reader are all very convenient comparing to my old laptop.

When I listen to music I found that the sound quality is not so good. The volume is still low even though I adjust everthing to the maximum. I am not very happy with that since I used to listen something when I work with the laptop for a long time. (My old laptop do a good job at this on the contrary)

Another flaw is that this model doesn't have bluetooth inside. I personally see bluetooth is more important than figureprint reader based on the frequency of their usage. I doubt that why there is no bluetooth in a laptop with this size. Even smaller laptop has more interface and hardware.

Generally speaking I am satisfied with its design.

Strengths: Great screen, light, convenient media slots.
Weaknesses: Fan seems to run a lot, noisy
Summary: The VAIO VGN-BX563B is a great laptop for home use. My unit came with bluetooth and the fingerprint reader. Setup was simple and easy. The unit with the battery weighs 6.2 pounds without the optical drive. Love the screen. The colors are vivid and images are sharp. The fan seems to run excessively. Not sure if that's a problem. I remember reading somewhere about a bios update that fixes this problem. Overall a nice laptop for $825.00.

Strengths: Brand Nice screen
Weaknesses: no bluetooth battery not duo core
Summary: 2006-09-19 19:41:02 It's a nice looking laptop, a little different from the ubiqutous Dell. Sort of like buying an Apple but PC based. But is it worth the $1100 sticker price? No, unless you can get it for cheaper.

I still like the design though, much nicer than Dells in general.
