Strengths: The unit was defect free and has high quality workmanship that reflects the higher price. The quality of the audio and video, particularly when using the HD component video output, is exceptional.
Weaknesses: Slight delay associated with navigating through a 400 disk stack.
Summary: The unit is well-built, which explains the cost and 30+ pound weight! The buttons are well-located and have a positive feel, so you know when you've executed a function or moved to the next disk. The direct key-board input and ability to connect to a computer is a convenient feature that greatly speeds info entry and disk access. Response to IR remote signal from the included and other programmable remotes is responsive, even at long distances. The display is large, bright and easy to read, yet can be dimmed to eliminate distraction from viewing movies.

2 Star ReviewThis will be the 3rd time I've sent my Sony DVP-CX ...
Strengths: Decent audio & video. Brushed aluminum faceplate matches my B&K components.
Weaknesses: Lacks the convenient '+ 1'/'+ n' found on most changers. Poor reliability.
Summary: This will be the 3rd time I've sent my Sony DVP-CX777ES changer in for service, requiring me to remove 400 DVDs, then re-enter all 'Navigation' menu pictures & descriptions all over again.

The 1st time it was sent back due to a very audible 'rattling' noise on some disks as if the disks were warped, although the disks were perfect.

The 2nd time I sent it back because the 'Navigation' menu pictures and/or disk descriptions would arbitrarily vanish when a disk was selected. The 'Navigation' menu is pretty useless without an accompanying disk description.

Now I'm sending it back due to an audible 'clicking' sound heard through all speakers & sub-woofer when changing the volume level. I'm using a B&K Reference 50 pre-amp with B&K Ref 200.7 amplifier. The 'clicking' sound can be heard through all speakers & sub-woofer when raising/lowering the volume. Extremely annoying.

I guess Sony 'ES' line isn't what it used to be or I just ended up with a lemon.

Strengths: 400 discs makes life a lot easier
Weaknesses: interface is lacking
Summary: I got this unit just today, and have bene playing around with it a lot. Although it is very nice to store an entire collection, and also has great playback (nice video and audio) the interface isnt so great. First of all, the load feature picked up only 10% of the titles, and not a single jacket. When capturing for the jackets, the photos were pixelated. This was the primary problem. When going to insert titles, only 16 characters were allowed, so i.e. Return of the King doesnt fit. Also, another problem was that if a disc is removed, all the data is lost.

I am planning on getting HTPC control of the unit, and I will update this review if anything changes, but frmo reading other reviews, I suspect that my problems are not unique.

Strengths: High quality finish, unbeatable warranty. Excellent way to organize DVDs
Weaknesses: A tad big for regular component racks, but hey, it holds 400 DVDs... what do you expect. Not many jacket photos/titles are picked up.
Summary: I have had this unit for a few days and I am most pleased with the quality and the ease of use. Not really intuitive, but once you read the user manual (which I highly recommned), all functions and commands make sense. One thing I have been unable to do is enter a second line of description below the title (in the manual, there is a MONACO entry as a second line). Does anyone know how to do this?. Also, some movies come with a very pixelated jacket picture and cannot be replaced. Example: I own the 5 pack collection of Rocky movies, but only the 1st one has a decent jacket picture. For Rocky II and IV I was able to capture a scene (as neither was picked up by the unit), but Rocky III and V do not allow me to erase the blue screen they both show as a jacket photo.
