Strengths: Good reception in my area (Washington, DC suburbs), can play indoors without problems, easy setup, Aux input for additional listening devices
Weaknesses: Sound is not as full as it could be, no CD player
Summary: I bought the Sportster Boombox about 2 months ago, and have been happy with it, but not without a few small complaints. First of all, if you own a Sportster or Sportster Replay, and want a boombox for your bedroom, beach or any other portable or hard to reach place, this is really your only choice at the moment.
I live close to Washington, DC and I am able to use this in my bedroom with no reception problems, and without placing the antenna near a window. The antenna fits snugly right on top of the box, so it makes things nice and neat if you are playing the box with batteries. However, since it requires something like 8 'D' batteries, I have yet to play it without plugging in the adaptor. The cord that is provided is about 6 feet long.
The sound is good, but not terrific. I also own a home docking kit which is plugged into my stereo and when the Sporster is played through that it produces a sound that I would say is twice or three times as good as the boombox. The sound out of the boombox sounds a bit more metallic than other devices I use to play the Sportster. Still, it sounds good and I'm only comparing the sound to other the other kits I have (car, home). Typically, any boombox will not sound as good as a stereo so this is nothing unique to Sirius.
The boombox comes with a power button, volume control, headphone jack, and an auxiliary jack that you could plug an MP3 player or portable CD player into and play through the speakers. I'm not sure why they don't include a CD player with the boombox. For $100, you would think they would. However, they may see the CD as a technology that is competing for your ears. I have seen XM boomboxes with CD players, however.
All other necessary functionality is on the Sirius receiver itself, which is sold separately. The boombox also comes with a convenient handle for easy movement. It makes for a good alarm clock too, since you can power up the boombox but keep the Sportster off, which allows the radio to turn itself on at the time you specify you would like to wake up.
I've been happy with the boombox, and subscribing to Sirius radio was definitely the right move for me.
