Strengths: Replay capability, 10 memory button panel, nice display.
Weaknesses: Small button size. No analog knob like on the Sportster.
Summary: I own the Sportster and the original Starmate. I Love my Sportster and hate the Starmate. However, the Starmate replay is a huge evolutionary step forward from the Starmate. It takes the small size of the Starmate and puts in all the features of the Sportster in a small beautiful package.
Other than the fact that is in not in a dock, like the Sportster, everything about this is equal to or better than the original Sportster. Plus the blue tint screen matched the interior of my Passat which is heavy on blue lights on the panels.

Strengths: Replay function, small form factor
Weaknesses: gets a bit hot. too bright at night
Summary: After purchasing the sportster replay, I was thinking of maybe something a little more portable to take around with me so i purchased the starmate replay. It has the same features as the sportster replay, but without the bulkiness. After using both units, the Starmate Replay is beginning to be my favorite. Sound quality is excellent and the fm transmitter has great distance. Though I am worried a bit as the unit does get very hot after a few minutes of use.

Strengths: Compact size, easy to install, easy instructions, great unit for the price and the replay feature is great
Weaknesses: buttons on the unit and remote are a little small
Summary: This updated radio from Sirius is fantastic. For the car, it is less obtrusive due to it's smaller size. The blue light is a nice touch. East to install and appreciate the two mounting options. The buttons on the radio and the remote are sometimes difficult to work when driving. Overall, this is a great radio, easy to use and you can't beat commerical free radio!!!!

Strengths: Screen size
Clarity of screen
Replay and pause of channel
Very easy to use
Weaknesses: size of buttons for memory presets - very small
Summary: The Starmate Replay is much better than the original Starmate It is a little wider than the original but the added features make up for the size difference. The blue screen is bright but tolerable. The remote is easy to use. Replay feature works well. The search and notify feature is a great improvement. It is easy to save songs or artists you want to hear more of...

Strengths: Compact size, very small antenna, shortcut to traffic channel
Weaknesses: Not completely plug-and-play
Summary: So far I'm very happy with this unit. Nice size, yet buttons are large enough to work with. Only negative is that if you are moving it from car to car (with the use of an additional car kit) you must disconnect 3 wires; it does not use a docking sled that automatically makes the electrical connection. However the small size offsets this negative in my opinion.

Strengths: small size, good looks, small remote
Weaknesses: Display too bright even when dimmed all the way, preset buttons really small
Summary: 2005-12-10 12:12:39 Glad to finally get rid of my tank of a reciever, the JVC KT-SR1000. I've been waiting for a decent deal on a good looking, and smaller sirius plug and play reciever for a while. So when this model came out and sirius decided to run a $50 rebate promotion, I was in. I like the small size for sure and the indiglo looks sweet, until your driving in your car at night and it lights up the interior and is quite distracting, even on the dimmest setting. I have to use a hat to cover it up, it's that bothersome. The replay function is sweet and works well as long as you don't change the station. One more thing is that all of the smaller plug and plays that I've seen have all the inputs(power, antenna, stereo out) on the left side, since most people will mount this product in the center council area of their vehicle, it would be preferable that all the inputs are on the right side, since most will run the wires that way. Inputs on the bottom would be o.k too.

Strengths: Compactness and replay feature
Weaknesses: 44 minute limitation on replay and resets replay when channel changes or power loss
Summary: I really like this radio. I bought it primarily to listen to Stern, but I have been enjoying the music stations as well. The Sportster seems to be more popular since it's sold out in most places, but I got a much better deal on the Starmate, and I like that it's more compact than the Sportster and has the same features. I think I got more for my money with the Starmate.
I love the artist/song alert feature. You can have the radio notify you when your favorite artists or songs are on, and jump to the station that is playing them (before they start).
I also like the replay feature. The radio automatically records the last 44 minutes of material that you listened to so you can rewind to listen to what you missed. While replaying, you can also fast-forward over songs/talk that you are not interested in. I wish it would record more than 44 minutes, but 44 minutes is pretty good. I also wish that it would not clear what was recorded when you change the channel or remove power from the radio (like when you switch the radio from the car to home or work).
The brightness does not bother me, but I don't listen to it that much in the car at night. You can control the brightness and contrast, so that should help if it is too bright.

Strengths: Compact, portable,
Weaknesses: Screen is very bright
Summary: This is very compact, easy to use and extremely portable. It will not clutter up your dash or windshield. I use the vent holder and it works great. As mentioned above, the screen is very bright but worth it.

Strengths: easy to install, small, nice quality built-in FM transmitter, comes with car kit
Weaknesses: small buffer, runs warm to hot, remote is a bit too small for me, a bit expensive, no home kit included
Summary: Overall, this item does what it's supposed to. I have not run into any trouble like I have with previous generations of Sirius Radios and equipment. It constantly locks in a good signal (as long as your antenna is installed correctly) and the built in FM transmitter is impressive. I can actually get the FM signal to transmit to most of my house using the Starmate Replay. I did pick up an extrenal transmitter (from ebay) since I use this item mostly at home and wanted full coverage.
The 45 minute or so buffer is nice but at this point I felt they should have made it longer (especially for the price). The unit is expensive unless you can find a rebate or special offer which are pretty common.
LCD is bright, but it doesn't bother me too much. They should have made the "Sirius One" Radio (SV1) LCD as bright as this one is!
Installation was a breeze. This is coming from someone who knows nothing about cars. I installed it in the car in about an hour. For most people it should be even quicker.
Since I have large hands I think the remote is uncomfortable, but it works as it's supposed to. I also think these units should come with both car and home kits. It stinks that you have to buy the home kit seperately.
There's no "docking port" on this like the Sportster, so be careful as you plug and unplug the wires from your radio in your car/home setup.
Will update as I continue to use.

Strengths: Size, 44 min replay, auto shut off, favorite artist alert.
Weaknesses: Preset buttons too small, runs hot, bright backlight, turns off randomly.
Summary: I've had the Starmate Replay 2 for three months now and I love it. It was easy to install and is easy to use. I ordered a hardwire kit to put the unit in my dash but that item has been on back order for two months and it seems that is the case everywhere. The remote works great for people in the back seat to navigate and use the unit, and I love the fact that it can replay songs up to 44 min in the past!
On the bad side however the unit has shut off randomly about half a dozen times, the first time it did a system reset and I lost all my presets. I don't know if it's a safety feature to shut off when it runs to hot (because it runs pretty warm, and I commute for an hour everyday) or just a fluke of the system. It's not too bad of a problem because you can turn the unit right back on. When I drive at night I wish I could turn the backlight down more than its lowest setting as it tends to be too bright.
All in all I really love this unit and plan on using for quite some time!

Strengths: small size, recording capabilities, attractive design Sirius programming
Weaknesses: difficult programming of presets, no direct access to channels
Summary: Overall the design of the Starmate ST2 is attractive. The one difficulty that I had was with the programming of the presets. The instruction manual is not very clear and one has to read it several times before it can be understood. The other thing that I have noticed with Sirius radios is that they do not have a direct access function to the various channels. Perhaps I missed it somewhere in the manual but I cannot seem to find it. Although the form factor is attractive I think that Sirius can make radios that are smaller like the XM radios. Overall I think that Sirius programming is superior to XM's programming and i can pit up with some of the minor inconveniences that I just mentioned.
