Strengths: Compact design, layout and mix of outlets, protection for cable and phone lines.
Weaknesses: none so far
Summary: I really like that APC has included a couple of outlets that are surge protected but not buffered. It eliminates the need for an extra power bar and thus helps to reduce the cable jungle under my desk.

Strengths: Plenty of battery life in the event of a blackout. Coax and phone line protection. Cleans power.
Weaknesses: Expensive. Only 4 battery backed ports. No ON/OFF switch for surge only ports.
Summary: The APC BE650R is a perfect choice for a high-end home PC. It provides clean power to your components and protects your equipment from brownouts, blackouts, and dropouts. The large capacity also makes this the perfect model for gaming PCs. On my C2D setup, it provides a maximum of 26 minutes of backup. The coax and phone line protection also protects your modem and router equipment from potential surges. The biggest limitation is that there are only a total of 8 ports (4 on battery backup + surge, 4 on surge only). This makes it difficult to connect all of your accessories like printer, speakers, charger, etc. on a single unit. Also the 4 surge only ports are not affected by the included ON/OFF switch, thus devices connected to those ports will always draw power even though it seems the UPS is off. Though it is expensive, you get a quality product that will last for years and some peace of mind for your expensive equipment.

Strengths: high capacity, easy to set up
Weaknesses: very wide, weird usb cable
Summary: I bought this APC BE650R UPS in order to protect my computer against blackouts and so far it's doing a good job. I've had several blackouts since installing it and it kept my computer going long enough for a safe shutdown. The PowerChute software allows you to control and monitor the UPS is very nice. I'm running Windows XP so I don't know if it runs under Vista. What I don't like about this UPS is how wide it is. I'd much rather have a UPS that extends vertically instead of horizontally like this one. Another problem is that it uses a weird USB cable with a non standard connector (phone plug) on one end. If it goes bad good luck finding a new one from anybody except APC.

Strengths: Features, Dependability, Value
Weaknesses: Heavy, Bulky
Summary: I bought this unit to upgrade an APC UPS that I was using. The old one just wasn't quite powerful enough to keep my PC and wide-screen monitor going for more than a minute. This one is twice as powerful and I have plenty of time to shutdown and avoid data loss. Don't let a salesperson try and tell you that you need a UPS with a laptop computer. A surge protector yes, but a notebook already has a battery and can switch over fast enough to keep you running if you're using AC power.

Strengths: price, capacity, features
Weaknesses: No manual battery test
Summary: The APC BE650R is a good UPS with a lot of good features. It offers outlets with both battery backup and surge protection and outlets with only surge protection. The surge protection only outlets offer protection to equipment such as laser printers which shouldn't be plugged into a UPS because of their high current draw. This UPS also offers two outlets with extra wide spacing ( one battery Backup + surge protection, and one surge protection only) for plugging in wall transformers without taking up two outlets. Telephone line surge protection is also included. Surge protection for Cable TV is included as well which I haven't seen in other brands of UPS. The PowerChute UPS software allows you to monitor the UPS and set conditions as when and how it will react to various power problems. The only thing I don't like about this UPS is that it doesn't allow you to run a manual battery test.

Strengths: Very robust and realiable
Weaknesses: Plug points are too close to each other specifically while using plug with built in adapter
Summary: It saved my PC and TV when power went off suddenly.Although it has 4 plug points on each side but really can\\\\\\\'t use more than 3 each side with plugs having built in adapter.

Strengths: fairlu compact; outlets for backup and surge protectors
Weaknesses: Outlets too close to each other
Summary: I am now using it for almost 3 months> experiences couple surges and one outage. It works. IT ias able to take the load of 2 computers, two router and one modem full-time. I liked the fact that it has only surge protectors outlets too. I am able to connect printers, devices and additional laptops using these outlets. very pleased with the return on investment.

Strengths: works as advertised...half of the plugs work on battery back up
Weaknesses: wish it had more plugs.
Summary: Great product for relatively good price. It is kind of bulky but this is the first one I have purchased so I don't know how big others are. Don't know how it works until power goes out and it hasen't yet :(

Strengths: Installation is quick and easy.
Weaknesses: None so far; time will tell.
Summary: A normally very reliable computer has been experiencing difficulties since being put in service at a new location. Since a power outage has occurred, and power fluctuations in the "exurban" (outer suburbs) location are certainly possible, a UPS seems worth trying. This one has a good reputation; it was very easy to install, seems to work well, and was affordable, especially when purchased on sale. Whether or not it actually improves the reliability of the computer will take months to determine, but so far so good.

Strengths: Good value; bundled software is so-so
Weaknesses: Longer battery runtime; cheaper replacement batteries
Summary: I recently set up a new computer, and wanted to protect it for brown-outs or temporary power-outages. I wanted the computer to shut-down automatically if the AC went out, and the battery was getting low. My OS is Windows XP Media Center computer, and I didn't even have to install the bundled software, as Windows recognized that an APC UPC was installed! I guess windows has the driver built in. I did install the software, however, and found it only so-so. Not overly powerful, with very minimal stats.

I did check on replacement batteries, and they are $50 from APC! Heck, I could buy a whole new UPS at this price!

3 Star ReviewAPC BE650R BACKUP POWER SUPPLY
Strengths: INEXPENSIVE. 8 PLUGS AND 2 SET FURTHER AWAY FOR LARGE (WIDE PLUGS)
Weaknesses: TAKES A LOT OF SPACE. BATTERY CONNECTORS WAS TIGHT TO GET INTO CASE.
Summary: BATTERY CONNECTORS WAS TIGHT WHEREAS I HAD TO SHOVE THEM IN THE CASE JUST TO CLOSE THE COVER. TAKES A LOT OF FLOOR SPACE. IF SPACE IS A CONCERN, SHOULD GET VERTICAL TYPE UPS.

I DID LIKE THE FACT IT HAD TWO PLUGS AWAY FROM THE OTHERS BECAUSE IF YOU HAVE WIDE PLUGS, YOU GET IN THE WAY OF THE OTHER PLUGS.

Strengths: Price, reputation, 3-year warranty
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I got tired of losing my VOIP and laptop's Net connections during thunderstorm power outages. After determining the electrical draw from the 4 transformers (VOIP, wireless router, modem, powered cable splitter), I educated myself, looked at various manufacturers' products, and was impressed with APC's home product line. I contacted APC directly to check how big a unit was needed. Becky (x5278) was extremely helpful. The BE650R (www.apcc.com/resource/...)

compared favorably against other manufacturers, and APC's warranty and reputation sold me. After shoppingbot, Circuit City had the best deal. Picked it up at my local store paying the sales tax, saving what could be high shipping costs considering the weight of the product. Plugged everything in, and am now prepared for those outages - thunderstorms are predicted for this afternoon.

Strengths: Relatively compact; decent price-point; protection for coax & Ethernet
Weaknesses: Mis-advertised run-times; only one coax in/out
Summary: I was wanting a surge protector that would go into my living room to protect my DirecTV DVR, high-end stereo, TV & DVD. I also wanted to protect ethernet cable, as I have that going into my DVR. I then realize that a UPS might be a better option for some outputs, as it would keep my DVR up/running in the event of a brown-out or temporary black out. This box does just that! It had plenty of A/C outlets, four on UPS/surge, and four on surge-only. I only put the DVR on the UPS outlets, as I wanted the battery to last as long as possible. There is only one coax, so I cannot protect both coax cables. Oh well. I am able to protect the ethernet cable for the DVR. I did test that it worked, by unplugging it from the wall, and it kept the DVR alive and running (though the TV & stereo obviously turned off).

I cannot comment on the software, as I did hook it to my computer. Overall, very good value.
