Strengths: Good value for money, more features, better sound
Weaknesses: Photo viewing feature not that great, touchpad and UI a little fiddly
Summary: In my opinion, compared to the iPods, this player offers good value for money. It has additional features such as FM radio, voice recording and 8GB storage. Sound quality (SN Ratio) is very much better than most players, but do get good headphones to go with your player to take advantage of that. (Don't use the ones that came in the box) The software installs fine, though you don't even need to install it if you don't want to. It gives you access to a few more features on the player.
The UI and touchpad take a little getting used to, but not something that is difficult to learn. You can put the player in "hold" mode to prevent bumping the If you take care of the player, you can avoid the microdrive lock-ups. This most probably is one of the more fragile aspects.
As for the other reviews referring to a "hissing" noise, it isn't noticable once the music is playing. When silent and you switch the LCD on, there is an audible raise in the noise floor. This is more or less present in most players using an LCD (esp. colour OLED,etc), since it requires high voltage and is squeezed onto a tiny device with little space between the components. Unless the isolation is very good, I think it's to be expected.
I'm pretty satisfied with the player, it performs well despite the "negative" points raised, they are not such big issues. The player is good value for money and I would recommend it over getting its more expensive competitor.

Strengths: Voice recorder, FM radio, photo storage, removeable battery, small size
Weaknesses: Photo feature, no AM on radio, can't create new playlists on the fly
Summary: Before I bought this, I was deciding between the iRiver, iPod, and the Zen. The iRiver was too large in size for me and the iPod didn't have the radio feature that I wanted. The Zen is great in that it has a removeable battery and I can import my mp3s into it without having use any special software like the iPod.
My player plays fine with no hissing noise and bumping it around doesn't do anything. The soft foam covers on the earpieces have fallen off a few times since I've started using it, but I can easily put them back on.
If you use a photo as a background, it's hard to get the menu text color right. For example, if your picture was taken outside, it is hard to choose the right colors for the menu text so that you can see it. The text is only visible against dark backgrounds. Other downside is that you can't view photos while listening to music.
Touchpad is easy to use and navigate through. No real cons to this player. I love it!

Strengths: Great sound, Excellent touch pad, so many useful features!
Weaknesses: Touch pad may be hard to use at first; can't go running with this in your pocket (you can with a holster), hard drive skips.
Summary: Excellent product. I've been comparing this to my friends, IPod, and it truly blows it from the water. There are so many more features than the IPod, and while the interface is tricky at first, it is basically second nature. The sound is excellent, the entire thing is beautiful, and I would recommend this to ANYONE over the IPod. One problem however, becuase the player is Hard Drive based, you CANNOT bump it around. If you have a holster, running is no problem but as I have not gotten one I cannot put this is my pocket an run, it DOES skip. However, the HD does provide a few advantages. For one, you get much more space for the price (compared to the Nano), and you can still store stuff like a Flash drive (up to 4 GB) by partitioning the drive (undo-able). An EXCELLENT product! Highly Recommended!

Strengths: 8gb hard drive, removeable battery, Extras such as FM radio, voice recording, very small (looks clunky in pictures), looks cool when its all lit up!
Weaknesses: Colour screen hard to see in daylight, totally blacks out when backlight is off; Cant listen to music & browse pictures simultaneously
Summary: Overall its good, and you dont need to install any software if you have windows xp. Navigation is good, although touchpad takes a little practice. Also, you can delete songs from the actual player without needing a computer. The extras are good, with a fast FM tuner and quality voice recording. Battery has been fine for as long as ive had it.
However, the colour screen is hard to see in daylight outside, if youve ever had a colour screen phone you'd know all about this. Also, you cant browse your photos and listen to music at the same time.
If you don't want an ipod nano, this is the player to buy.

Strengths: 8GB storage space, good sound quality
Weaknesses: photo viewing is useless
Summary: I got this unit a week ago, but I have been using creative mp3 player for almost two years, various models though. Compare to its predecessors, Zen Micro 5GB, 6GB, this unit does NOT provide any better operation, sound quality in my opinion is a little bit worse, but still better than other brands. Longer waiting time if you switch tracks during play and louder hissing noise when the LCD is on. It DOES skip when the player starts, which I have not observed with the 6GB version.
It is convenient to have 8GB space, color display looks cool, hey, but it is totally useless to me, I'd rather viewing my photo on my PPC, esp under sunlight. And... as usual, FM is voice recoding are always a plus. And, I got it very cheap...

Strengths: Good capacity for price,
excellent size
Weaknesses: sensitive controls
Summary: I like the sound quality, size and color screen. I wanted a replaceable battery which gives the ability to keep listening on the go and avoid the need to send the unit away for replacement. It's nice to have the ability to use multiple formats.

Strengths: Color screen, same great zen micro design, 8gb, its small!
Weaknesses: Nothing, but it would be cool if it played video.
Summary: The Creative Zen Microphoto is so cool. I think it is much better that an ipod. The color display looks really cool and the built in radio and voice recorder are always nice to have. The sound quality is also really good. Overall this mp3 player ROCKS!

Strengths: Easy navigation, good amount of storage, full color screen, extras
Weaknesses: some graphics in the inferface can sometimes look cheesy, really thought that the grey color would be really ugly, but its turning out to be just fine for me
Summary: I have been enjoying Zreative Zen Micro mp3 players for awhile now and it really was an added feature to get the color screen. All of my music transfered over very quickly by usb 2.0. I think i still would have liked a different body color for the player, but this one is just fine.
compared to the Zen Micro the Microphoto seems to have a more robust casing and i think that it will scratch a bit less. I also didnt notice in pictures of the microphoto but the screen and the controls are elevated by a curved edge that doesnt exist on the zen micro.
the color schemes are interesting, and ive only played with them once so far, but ive only found that i like the vibratn (origanol) setting so far.
All in all this player really does absolutely everything you need from an mp3 player.

Strengths: Great color, size, sound, holds pictures, (although I don't use the picture feature much, I like changing the backround), FM Recorder, FM Radio.
Weaknesses: Sensitive touch pad at first, but you definitly get used to it, just change the sensitivity settings to "low" and you'll be fine, then change it to normal or high when you get used to it.
Summary: Well, at first I wanted an iPod, preferably mini because it's not as much as the other iPods, it's smaller, and I don't need video, but a friend told me he saw a Zen MicroPhoto and it was awesome, so I decided to see for myself, went to Circuit City and saw 1 and I immediately wanted one, I don't think seeing pictures does justice, the LCD Color and the cool color around the player look great, but most importantly the sound quality is great, which can be configured. I love it, and I have no complaints so far.

Strengths: Large amount of storage space for the price (especially compared to ipod), compatibility with Comcast Rhapsody-to-Go (build up your music collection for under $15/month), small size, color display
Weaknesses: Touch pad difficult to use at first, most accessories on the market are for ipods, not Creative products
Summary: I considered the ipod nano and the 30 GB ipod, but settled on the Creative Zen MicroPhoto. The price was great (on sale at bestbuy.com last week for only $187!) and few players in this price range give you a color display and 8 GB storage space. My major reason for purchasing this player was its compatibility with Comcast Rhapsody-to-Go. I can add as many songs as my player can hold from an extensive collection (they have about 90% of what I want, including old stuff and new releases) for just $14.99/month. ipod can't do that.
Small size is great. Minor complaint: my headphones shorted out within the first 24 hours of use (maybe it was me, maybe it was the equipment). I enjoy hooking up my MicroPhoto to my home stereo and enjoying my music downloads all over my home. Great investment!

Great product - HORRIBLE company.
Strengths: Screen, capacity, FM radio included, size.
Weaknesses: Poor product quality, poor support.
Summary: Functionally (when it works) this is a great product with just the right feature set. Unfortunately, it is made by a company with horrible policies and service. My first player had a screen defect. I returned it the first day. Then the second one stopped working only 80 days from purchase. I called and described the issue (10 minute boot time, no longer recognized by PC), and they said I can pay for support. 80 days out and I pay for support? Buy an iPod.
