Strengths: Light weight, Quick starting, Fast processor, Backlighted keyboard, Wide screen, and Reliability!
Weaknesses: Relatively small basic Ram, Portability
Summary: 2006-04-12 04:19:29 This is quite big but a cute machine. This is my second Mac but a first powerbook. My first experience of Mac was PowerMac 6100, the very first Mac using Motorola's powerpc processor. More than 10 years ago. Now, it yields its high end position to the Macbook, but it is good enough that I can use it for publishing and editing photos. If you are familiar with, or using, Photoshop and Quirk Express, you may know how this is a good machine. Web surfing is easier now. Actually, I had to use PC because most websites were built for Internet Explore. However, I did not notice any problem with this new Mac on web browsing. Moreover, the wide screen let me open and browse two pages at a time. It's so cool.

There is another good reason you may choose it as well as the versatility. Design. Their lighting idea is really cute. I love the orange (charging) light around the power connector, the white light on the lid (power), and silver backlight of keyboard. The rough surface of the keys are another point that I love this laptop.

It is big but relatively light. And it is so quiet. The feeling for the battery life is neutral. I could watch the Gladiator (about 2 and half hours) but the battery was dead just after the movie. So, the advertised long life (5 and half hours) depends on the working condition.

Enjoy!

Strengths: Easy transfer. Excellent form factor. Stunning graphic. It's a mac! Upgrading is easy. OSX nothing comes close.
Weaknesses: Too big to carry it around all the time. Pricey Ram awa ( as well as ) the computer itself.
Summary: This is my 2nd PowerBook. Pismo is my first and still humming slow with new HD. This one is so much faster and better graphic which I am going to use for designing.Hope to keep it for 10+ years like my g3. Pricey but over the course of ten years and very good OS X----PriceLESS. This is the last of g4 PB just like the Pismo. I am acquiring it so that I have the best of the best of PowerPC based PowerBook. May be Intel based PowerBook in 5 years when all applications are universalized and runnig Windozzzz

Strengths: Stable, quiet, cool, gorgeous screen display, fast, easy to use
Weaknesses: none found
Summary: Have owned this exact computer, 17" PowerBook G4 Notebook at 1.67GHz. Just bought this one for my wife, who was not into computers at all. The screen display is unfatiquing and very high resolution. The apple OS is very easy to learn and is user friendly in many ways. Highly recommended to any computer user.

Strengths: Speed, versatility, professional
Weaknesses: Portability
Summary: I bought this as my first mac computer and I was highly impressed. I've had no problems that couldn't be fixed by myself and my computer knowladge is above average at best. Everything I have thrown at it, the 17" powerbook has held it ground in speed and memory.

I use it for media mostly. I am a student studying music and sound recording so I have quite a few programs that need a lot of memory. I got the 1 gig RAM update and I couldnt be happier with my choice. The Superdrive that apple has created can do anything CD or DVD realted (CD-ROM, cd-r, cd-rw, dvd-rom, dvd-r,dvd-rw). The new models even have dual DVD burners for those larger projects.

The only problem, if you could call it that, is it IS the largest model apple supplies so it isnt the easiest to cart around. I was able to find a good bag that was made for 17" laptops that works wonders. I bring it on the bus for the 4 hour ride home and watch dvd's of mine that I ripped and saved onto the hard drive. It is extremely versatile and I can use it for anything I would ever need.
