Strengths: Fast. Dependable. Great software bundle. Out of the box, better than any Windows-based portable out there.
Weaknesses: Can get pretty hot while working.
Summary: How good is this laptop? I can edit movies, enhance images, layout webpages, write memos, and surf the web-- all at THE SAME TIME. What Windows-based portable can do that without crashing? When I worked on a desktop PC with similar specs, it hung AT LEAST once a day, because of my habit of opening various apps at the same time. Since I got my PowerBook, it has NOT CRASHED, not even ONCE.

Anyway, the specifics. The aesthetics of the PowerBook are in a class of its own. The aluminum finish is beautiful, with a responsive keyboard with a very helpful feature-- it lights up, depending on the amount of light available.

The screen is just fantastic-- very bright, good detail-- a must if you do a lot of design work.

Now on to performance. Mac OS X is simply the most stable, most reliable OS I've ever worked with. If the only reason you're reluctant to switch to a Mac is unfamiliarity with the Mac's OS, don't worry. Even if you've never worked on a Mac (this is the first time I've worked with a Mac on a regular basis in nine years), Mac OS X is so well-designed that neophytes-- even non-techie types-- will get it in under a day.

The apps that go with the PowerBook are also amazing. The iLife suite is just so user-friendly that you'll be using iMovie to make great-looking movies in no time. I use it at work, and I can churn out professional-looking movies and DVDs fast, because (1) it's easy to use, and (2) everything is rendered so fast you don't have to wait much to see your work.

About the only drawback of the PowerBook is the fact that it can get really hot, especially when you're doing some heavy-duty work. If you live in a temperate country, that shouldn't be a problem, but if you live in the tropics, like me (I live in the Philippines), the heat can wreak your laptop. This is easily remedied, however-- just make sure to work in an airconditioned room, and make sure the PowerBook is well ventilated by getting a laptop stand.

The bottomline? In terms of value and performance, the PowerBook is in a league of its own.

Strengths: Great screen, fast harddirve, and best of all it OS X operation system.
Weaknesses: Short battery life
Summary: This is a product that you get what you pay for. I have had this powerbook for a year now, and not one crash - yes I said not one crash, freeze, and never had to do a forced reboot. I couldn't say that with a windows based PC or lap top.

Strengths: Endless applications, great for creativity, ready to go right when you get it, you are never bored, gorgeous build, it is nice and light, it is thin, ect.
Weaknesses: i worry about getting it dirty or dropping it, a lot
Summary: 2006-08-16 14:12:45 I recieved this computer and it was a part of me within the first week. I take it to school to record music, You can write music using garage band, I easily upload photos and edit them, make photo books, movies for my friends and i, take piano lessons, do work on it, and play around with dashboard gadjets, i tunes, and more. Dashboard has a weather report, dictionary/thesaurus, games, and tons more. Not to mention this computer is fast, EASY to use, and has little suprises that make your jobs that much easier. Who wouldn't want such a beautiful piece of machinery in front of them?

Strengths: it's fast, easy, portable. The programs are excellent. It's everything I thought it would be.
Weaknesses: I wish the battery would last longer.
Summary: Overall, I find this laptop very well pleasing. I don't like Mac charging for a Mac.com account but that really has nothing to do with the computer. The screen is a nice size and color. The keys are excellent to type with. I actually prefer this over a powermac for the touch. I wish the price was not as high but i got a good deal. Apple has done a great job with this machine

Strengths: Portability, speed, storage, ease-of-use
Weaknesses: A little pricey but worth it.
Summary: This is my first Apple computer ever. I am totally impressed with Apple. I ordered this Powerbook on October 5th 2005. New "revamped" Powerbooks were introduced on October 19th 2005. Apple could have filled my order for the "lesser" Powerbook but held off and gave me a revised order on October 19th with all of my original options at a lower price. I cancelled that order and made a new order with ALL of the options, including 2GB of RAM and the new 100GB 7200 rpm hard drive. This latest order cost almost the same amount as my original order. This showed me that Apple cared more about making a customer happy than making a fast buck. The laptop is great! The hard drive is really fast. I had heard that Macs were slower than windows machines. I don't notice that at all. The screen is beautiful. I watch DVDs and HD movie trailers on it and people gather around with their jaws open, amazed at the clarity. The software is a story all by itself. Everything is easy and intuitive to use. I am now hooked on Apple. My next desktop will most likely be an iMac.

Strengths: Design, slim, light weight, ambiant light keyboard, functionality, bluetooth, WiFi
Weaknesses: price, but it's worth it. Battery life isn't very good.
Summary: 2006-02-01 06:13:08 I had a Dell laptop for the last 2 years, which was suppose to be great. The Apple Powerbook is by far superior. The PC laptop is bulky and heavy, and constantly has problems (freezing, crashing, etc.). From start up to shut down, the powerbook is magnificent. It's fast, it's easy to use, and it's powerful. It comes with bells and whistles that are actually useful and easy to access. The screen resolution is crisp and clear. I would recommend this laptop to anywone.

Strengths: nice screen, never freezes, awesome for playing games and perfect for my college needs
Weaknesses: dead pixel! just one.. but still! one dead pixel, and is incompatible with running a chemistry program needed for my classes and.. the new macbooks just came out 2 weeks after i bought my g4 pbook ;[
Summary: i just recently bought a dell inspiron 6000 running under windows xp and it was doing me good. until i went to college and i moved in, and things just went bad for me. i guess i caught a virus somewhere and i already had to format my harddrive clean even after just a few months of buying the inspiron 6000. come christmas, i got this g4 powerbook and im happy. its ease of use is great, but i still have to get used to it. the transition is by far simple - but just like driving different cars with different panels, you have to get used to it. I love it already. my only problem is i have a dead pixel, a tiny red dot that just eats away at me every day when i look at it. I'm currently calling apple and and going to go to my college computer store to get it fixed, and hopefully I can get this taken care of. above all, I LOVE MACS NOW!

Weaknesses: None
Summary: This computer is truely amazing. It preforms all the high end tasks at blazing speeds and does it in style. I bought the new revampted and high res model and i could not be happier. If you are debating between a pc and a mac, you should seriously consider ditching your slow, bulky and unreliabel machine and go to a whole new world of computing.

Alex

Strengths: EVERYTHING
Weaknesses: NOTHING
Summary: First off, let me start of by saying that I have never owned a Mac before. It probably has nothing to do with "not liking" Mac, but Windows computers were so dominant for so long. My wife and I have only had Dells' for the past 5+ years. We only had problems with the. I was getting so used to Dells' problems (my work uses them too) that I thought ALL computers were this bad!!!

Anyway, we were looking into getting a laptop, as we are starting to travel, and need the flexability. I looked into the Sony VAIO, and the Dell Inspiron 6000 (i think that's the number for it,...lol). The wife wanted to look at Apple laptops. She had heard good things about the IBook, so I figured I'd give it a shot. After walking into the Apple store, it was love at first site! lol...I saw the Powerbook, and knew I had to have it. The quality of the screen and picture alone is the best I saw of any laptops. The design of the computer is simply gorgeous! We got all of the wireless stuff (printer, internet) it's just awesome. We take the laptop anywhere in the house, and don't have to worry about a thing.

I had read somewhere that the battery life wasn't so good, but it seems to last for about 3 hours unplugged. (at least that's my guess). My parents have the Sony VAIO and they can't get it to last more than an hour!

The computer is super easy to use (for someone who has only used windows), sound quality is good, and it's fast!

I LOVE MAC NOW!!! We will never go back to Windows!

Strengths: Mac OS
Weaknesses: hmm.... not anything at this moment
Summary: I have used windows for 14 yrs. A few months ago, I tried an Apple. An apple a day keeps windows viruses away! I love the design of this laptop. Its my first laptop since 1999. I thought I would miss my 19" LCD. But the widescreen, flexability, and reliability more than compensate. My windows system would always freeze when manipulating digital photos. The Mac, breezes right through! I am sooo happy I bought this computer. You will be too.
