Strengths: - Great Price - Elegant Looks - Multiple Inputs - Bright and Light :)
Weaknesses: - Remote (mentioned in all reviews) - Menu Navigation on LCD.
Summary: This is a great LCD for the price I managed to get it for. I picked this up during Black Friday Sale of 2005. With rebates this should cost me 500.00+tax.

The screen has excellent brightness, at times too much by default and you have to tone it down to your liking, but you will never complaint about a dull LCD on this monitor. There are many inputs on the monitor, and I really notice the difference while watching movies and playing xbox games in composite, even though I was using S-Video before. Various settings on the LCD are configurable, so you can tweak the brightness, contrast, sharpness and go deeper into kind of color, temperature, etc. to truly configure your input source. PIP is a nice feature to have too.

I replaced an old CRT with this 27" as my desktop monitor and couldn't be happier. I upgraded to drivers on my video card to truly get 1366 x 768, which is the maximum supported resolution for this monitor.

I didn't like the remote too much, so eventually I will replace it with a multifunction remote. I didn't like how the menu navigation works if you are using the buttons on the screen. Its not horrible, but not intuitive and takes a minute to get used to. Speakers are not detachable, but that wasn't something I cared for - I think that's better since there are less loose parts - this is one solid unit.

Strengths: Picture quality, native resolution is perfect for an extra large, easy to read PC Monitor. Nice, sleek looking black bezel
Weaknesses: Sound quality, I wish you could remove the speakers, remote control not very responsive or well designed.
Summary: Got this monitor on sale at Office Depot for $500.00 after rebate. I consider it a great bargin at that price. The HDTV picture is great, though if you look close you can see the pixels on the edges of things, though I think this is typical of LCD and Plasma TVs. The standard cable TV picture is not near as good as on a regular tube TV.

What I really think it excels at (and what I really bought it for) is an extra large and easy to read PC monitor. It has plenty of hookups such as DVI, s-video, yprpb etc. Overall I am very pleased with it so far and would recommend it to anyone. Would have given it 5 stars were it not for the cheesy remote and low quality non-removable speakers.

Strengths: Price Picture Inputs...
Weaknesses: Sound system
Summary: Dvi input for viewing Hd programing from Time Warner cable 1080i is excellent. DVD's looked great via component input. I found that by turning the surround sound off and turning the equalizer to "Living Room" then tweaking the bass and treble it sounded good in my bedroom which is 15x22. The other sound settings sounded cheap. The picture is as good as the big name models at twice the price. I liked the 1 year on site warranty. I recieved a $100.00 rebate so I purchased an additional 3 year on site warranty. Saved on taxes and free shipping by purchasing from Buydig.com.I did alot of research on LCD's and found this model had all the features and met my highest standards. The Syntax Olevia LT27 HVX in my opinion is a must buy.

Strengths: Great Price, Great picture, Nice design
Weaknesses: Speakers are sub-par, remote is hard to use.
Summary: The strengths outweight the weaknesses. I just bought the TV a couple days ago and the price is unbeatable for a 27" LCD. The picture is astonishing. It is very clear. There is nothing too bad about the TV. The speakers are not too great but it doesn't really matter because the picture is just awesome. The remote is OK but its about the TV. I had never heard of Syntax before but now I would recommend this TV to anyone.

Strengths: Great S-Video-DVI picture quality - Great Price - Sleak design
Weaknesses: Speakers are so-so, hissing heard when no sound being played, little bass, but expected - Remote seems to lag a bit
Summary: Overall this TV turned secondary monitor is fantastic for what it's good at. Picture quality is outstanding, and text is very sharp. Response time for gaming is also really fast. Price is one of the lowest out there if not the lowest for 27" LCDs and comes with multiple inputs.

Sound on the TV is good, but when nothing is playing a small hiss is heard, which is slightly annoying, but at least there's an option to disable the TV Speaker. This does pose a problem when using as both a TV for consoles and for a computer monitor, but is manageable. For the price though, it can't really be beat.

Strengths: cheap no name brand TV with good picture quality
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I was looking for a TV to replace the old one in my bedroom. I researched around and found this Syntax TV. It's not a name brand TV, but it was a lot cheaper compared to other LCD TVs with roughly the same specs. I decided to take a chance on this and have not regretted it. Really, image quality is great, and I do not see any reason to pay thousands more for a name brand. I have dish network and watch both standard and hi-definition programming. Both come out quite well. Color and sharpness was not optimal out of the box, but with some tweaking of the settings, I have it set to where I want it. Great TV for the price.

Strengths: great price, awesome picture quality, number of inputs
Weaknesses: lack of HDMI interface, sound quality from speakers, remote control design
Summary: I purchased this TV after research and based on the reviews I read. Picture quality was the main factor affecting my decision for this purchase. Sound is going through my external receiver and I am using an universal remote control. I found browsing the TV Menus quite confusing. Other than that great product for the price, would definitely recommend it.

2 Star ReviewSyntax LT27HVX
Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 1. No Zoom. Matted 4:3 video will have black bars on ALL 4 sides. The picture can not be zoomed in to fill the screen.

2. Wrong resolution. The native resolution is increased to 1366x768 from previous models. But the DVI interface still advertises 1280x720. So the computer outputs 1280x720, and the display scales it to 1366x768. The result is fuzzy.

3. Inaccurate VGA sync. At 1366x768 native resolution, the VGA connection can not sync accurately. The result is fuzzy. Even manual clock and phase adjustment can not solve the problem.

4. With 1366x768 native resolution, 720p video needs to be resampled and degraded, looking worse than 1280x720 native resolution.

5. Not enough color gradients. Very noticeable.

2 Star ReviewSyntax LT27HVX returning it.
Strengths: Very nice picture from video sources.
Weaknesses: Lousy sound (hum-hiss) at low volume levels. Lack of isotropic scaling mode for "letterboxed" NTSC. Noisy reception from cable. Lacks HDMI interface.
Summary: First off, the picture is beautiful from video sources (VCR / DVD / PC). If I was using it primarily as a monitor, I would be very happy. However, I bought this unit ($500) for use in my bedroom. At low volume levels (when my wife is sleeping) the noise from the speakers is very objectionable, so I decided to use external speakers. The manual states that the internal speakers and possibly the entire unit can be damaged if both internal and external speakers are used simultaneously. However, any time you mute/unmute the device it turns the internal speakers back on. An additional annoyance is that the external audio outputs have a fixed volume level. Unfortunately, that volume level seems to change with the input source so you have to mess with the volume level any time you swap PIP. In my case the external speakers have a manual volume control that is well... manual.

OK, on to the video. The NTSC receiver is noisy. The same channels viewed through the VCR are much clearer (and louder... see previous paragraph). The biggest issue with the picture however is the picture scaling options. You can view a center-located 4:3 (fixed location) or you can stretch the picture to full screen. The stretch however is anisotropic meaning that people look short and fat if the original source is 4:3. This is especially irritating when the original image is "letterboxed" with black bands on the top and bottom. Instead of just zooming in and cropping off the black bands, the bands are still there and the people still look short and fat. So instead I watch it in 4:3 mode, and half of my screen area is black. I worry about screen burn-in due to the fixed location of the 4:3 active area. (I know, it is less of an issue for LCD).

Well, that is my review, and that is why I plan to return it tonight.

Strengths: For a little over 500.00 you are getting one hell of a lot of functionality -unheard of at this price. Wonderful pic quality, inputs galore.
Weaknesses: For the price I paid for this thing, I'd feel guilty complaining.
Summary: Just buy the damn thing. Use it with your PC. Play games on it. Watch HD TV, check out a movie. It really will do it all with no real issues. The on board sound should be turned off and sent to something external. (I love my Binaura system =D). NO dead pixels, no set up problems. The remote isn't really that bad, but the truth is that you'll end up wanting to go with a Harmony or similiar, depending on your use.

I'm sending my rebate certified mail hoping that this will aid in timely processing as well as eliminating any of the too many reported issues getting paid back form Syntax.

Really folks, for the price I can't find anyhing bad to say. Your satisfaction will be predicated by what you are using and wanting the unit for !

Strengths: good picture quality
Weaknesses: too wide
Summary: good for HDTV, not not that good for the regular cable TV subscriber due to the aspect ratio. and the tv is too wide for a 27 inch lcd tv monitor.

3 Star ReviewOverall a good product
Strengths: great price, good picture and color, multiple inputs
Weaknesses: no serious issues so far. but do not like the inconsistent product information
Summary: I bought this unit as a second set for my sister in law on black Friday. Before that I compared with many other models, finally I choose this model because of the good price (I am sure this price of LCD TV will continue to drop), thus I decide to go for a not too high end model and a relatively unknown brand. (maybe just for me)

The quality of product seems very good from my observation during these days. The picture is vivid and bright although I suggest to lower the brightness in order to prolong the lofetime of LCD and protect the eyes. The sound is not a big issue as many of us would consider a home threat anyway. From my side, I am satisified with what it delivers so far.

What I do not like mostly is the inconsistent product information. On the web site of syntax group, at the beginning it was saying 1280 x 720 and 12 ms response time; and now it is changed into 9 ms and 1366 x 768 during the sale. The figures indeed look better but I do not like this way. For this reason, I give 3.5 otherwise it would get 4.5 from me for the overall quality and the price I paid.

Strengths: Cheap Price, Small, Picture
Weaknesses: Remote
Summary: Great LCD TV for the price. You can't go wrong with it. Picture looks great in HD. The speakers are not bad at all. The remote is the only weakness. The size of the remote and buttons were awfully desinged.
