Strengths: Best 17" wide screen display. Very quiet. Comfy keyboard, great Harmon/Kardon speakers, fast HT CPU, great for CAD (Solidworks). Nice dark blue pearl/anodized aluminum looking case w/glossy blk trim.
Weaknesses: Useless LED's on front(AC, Power On, Battery status) for desktop replacement since always plugged into AC. Would be annoying sitting back watching movies because they're very bright. Black tape fixed.
Summary: Best 17" wide screen laptop around. I've had the HP ZD7000 and the Dell M60 (15.4") and neither compares for my use (CAD-Solidworks) The ZD7000 is the closest comparison but it runs so noisily that I couldn't stand it. The ZD7000 is slightly faster (276 vs. 295 seconds on SW2001+ bench) but it has the advantage of the Go5600 128Mb video card vs. Go5200 32Mb card on the P25-509. The Dell M60 with 128Mb Quaddro GoFX770 is also a fine computer but the screen is smaller at 15.4" and it locked up on the SW bench. Also nice on the P25-509 is 80Gb hd, DVD-RW/-R CDR combo drive, built in 802.11g wireless, SD/MMC card reader, 2 PCMCIA slots, DVD drive in front vs. side, uses SODIMM PC2100 or PC2700 RAM modules.

Strengths: Screen is the best I've ever seen, video is excellent, sound is great, and 3-D effect on sound is great.
Weaknesses: A little bulky, requires special backpack, but the quality of the laptop makes up for it.
Summary: 2004-04-22 15:38:11 I haven't been able to test the DVD burner yet, but I have to say this laptop was definately worth it. I got it because my Sony VAIO PCG-NVR23's screen cracked, and this is a major upgrade. This laptop can hold 2 DVD-Multi drives if you want it to, both hot-swappable. The 17" Widescreen is great for Homeworld2, and I have used the Restore DVD twice (very nice DVD)

I tried to move the battery to the second bay, but it wouldn't fit...I'm sorry, but I don't think it can hold 2 batteries like the first review says.

I'd only add two things to this, and that'd be Windows XP Professional and 2 sticks of 1GB DDR, but that'd be 1900$, so...

Strengths: One of the best overall Laptops around. Great 17inch screen, quiet operatation, Fast CPU and is an overall "9"!
Weaknesses: A little heavy to carry around, but just purchased a laptop bag with wheels. My "bag" weighs around 60 lbs fully loaded with my business work (plus the laptop of course!)
Summary: 2004-04-21 09:45:46 A great buy if you can find one. Toshibas new 17 inch is 3.2GH and the 2.8 ones are going fast. Screen is one of the best I have seen. Can carry two batterys, hence can last a long time on a plane trip. Last trip I watched two DVD films. A great buy!

re: from IA review, I doubt he has ever seen this laptop.

1 Star ReviewDon't buy it. worst computer design ever. everythi ...
Strengths: big screen
Weaknesses: too tall, heavy, and too shiny frames, lights.
Summary: Don't buy it. worst computer design ever. everything is shiny like a mirror. It is almost 10 pounds, and too thick to type. moreover, it's too slow. HT CPU not that fast and only 32mb graphic memory. trust me. don't buy it.
