Strengths: Secure and portable tools and storage on a single flash drive. A good first step to great things.
Weaknesses: Takes a bit long to start up. Tools could be improved and expanded.
Summary: This is my favorite flash drive. I love it, and can't wait for later versions of this kind of flash technology.
--------------
First of all, it's a standard 1GB high-speed flash drive, so you can store quite a bit on this. Flash drives make moving files to and from any PC easy by simply plugging it in. But ironically, this area is one of the drive's drawbacks. It takes longer to initially connect to a PC than most USB drives, especially the first time on a PC. It insists on activating its virtual CD of tools as well as its normal flash storage drive, whether you'll be using them or not. But when you do use the tools, they can be quite nice. And if you don't want them at all, you can uninstall them with a tool available on their site.
--------------
For example, here's my favorite. I have tons of usernames and passwords for many different sites where I shop, bank, chat, blog, etc. I often find it difficult to remember my usernames and passwords. I've tried keeping them in a text file, using a fingerprint reader to save them, putting them on my Palm smartphone using Splash ID, and a few other things. But I've never been able to access them, maintain them, or keep them portable very easily. And not having my website Favorites everywhere doesn't help.
--------------
Enter the U3 drive. First of all, it's password protected, so I can use one password to access my information, files, and programs. Second, it has completely replaced my Favorites for linking to sites, and will automatically enter my personal information on those sites. No more usernames and passwords stored on a PC! And since its a compact U3 drive, it's easy to maintain my personal info, since I'm finally using a product that maintains it as I go! And third, it's always at my fingertips, instead of trying to remember my info when on a different PC.
--------------
Many other tools are available from the U3 site, and they've included a convenient "Download Programs" link on the U3 menu, which is kind of like a second Start menu on the right side (only much better).
--------------
I'm giving this 5 stars, because they are pioneering a whole new way of using flash drive technology. The tools aren't quite as good as they could be, and the system needs some streamlining. But nobody else has come close to giving me this kind of ease and convenience. I plan to look closer at the other U3 tools I haven't used yet. And that alone tells me something about the product. It is good enough to make you excited at getting more from it.
--------------
Finally, I hope U3 keeps innovating. First, they should open up to the community of U3 users who would absolutely love to create and share little tools and programs with one another, which could easily make U3 far more valuable without any more R&D.
--------------
More importantly, if they keep thinking outside the box, the U3 drive could even be the precursor to a mini PC that works by leaving out the elements common to all PCs, and only keeping your individual OS settings, programs, info, and storage on the drive. Businesses could literally combine their electronic access keys in a U3 device, also used by employees on standard, generic company PCs that personalize automatically with a U3 drive and its password. Salespeople could use anyone's PC or laptop at any site. And all this while the company feels more confident that roaming company information is still safe.
--------------
In short, it could make every PC your PC. Here's hoping they keep going.

Strengths: U3 software, USB 2.0, Capacity
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: 2006-07-22 12:08:52 excellent product. the U3 software is good and useful. its quite small in size and with 1 GB capacity its adequate for my use. its USB 2.0 speed so it transfers pretty fast. i use it to move files between my laptop & PC. the separate cap can be a hassle. speeds compare well to the sandisk cruzer micro that i own too. if you dont need the U3 functionality i would suggest buying a regular drive as it takes up space and has a 30 sec startup time when the U3 software loads everytime you plugin your drive.

Strengths: Reliable and durable, run U3 applications from the drive
Weaknesses: Needs special U3 version applications
Summary: The idea of U3 is great - running applications from the USB drive without leaving any traces on the host computer. The drive emulates a CD drive, automatically runs U3 desktop when plugging in. Like CDs, hold down the shift key would disable autorun if you do not need the U3 desktop. Being able to carry personal data and applications is great, however, there are only limited U3 applications. Wish one day I can boot the OS from a USB drive and have all applications and data with me.

Strengths: U3 software, price
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: This is definitely a great USB drive. With its 1 GB capacity and the U3 software, it has everything that one could need in a small USB drive. It has worked flawlessly with every computer that I have put it in and the file transfer speed is extremely fast compared to other USB drives that I have used in the best. If you are looking for a 1GB USB drive with U3 software, I definitely recommend this one.

Strengths: good transfer speed, security, U3 support
Weaknesses: none found yet
Summary: This is my first USB flash drive, I have borrowed others from people to transfer files. I have found the transfer speed to be pretty good. I really like the security feature, which works well. I have not had to try out the recovery process yet if I forget my password. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The lanyard is a nice addition.
I got this for about $34 (before a $14 rebate), final cost about $20. It was well worth the money. I actually got two, one for myself, and one for my daughter who is going off to college this fall.

Strengths: Very easy to use, plug-and-play, small and convenient, fast
Weaknesses: Could lose cap because it is not attached
Summary: I have never used one of these flash devices before, but I am sorry that I haven't now! It is smaller than a pack of gum, so you can easily put it in your pocket or purse without a problem. You don't even have to upload a program onto your computer to use it...just plug it into your USB and start storing on it.

Strengths: Easy-small; ideal for digital photographers
Weaknesses: None
Summary: I use specifically for storing photographs needed while traveling and between office and home. I don't always have time to upload photos to the web while at home, so the Flash Drive allows me to move just the files needed for uploading later from another computer. This little tool has been a tremendous help for me!!

Strengths: Compact, fast, password security, u3 software, 5 year warranty
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This is a great product. I am very happy with their 5 year warranty. :) I also like the password protection function. You won't worry about anything if you lost it. The only thing I am concerned is what if I forget my own password. :p

Strengths: Phenomenal cosmic power...itty bitty living space! Beat my Cruzer big time in head-to-head data transfer test. It's also just sleek enough to fit into the pen slots in my bag, which Cruzers don't.
Weaknesses: None so far!
Summary: I've been a loyal Cruzer owner since I had trouble with some early versions of other brands. After a recent weird experience with their (totally unnecessary) new software, I went for another brand. I was dubious, so I did a straight up comparison between my 1.0GB Cruzer and this 1.0GB Kingston. Same computer, same files, same USB port and the Cruzer took 12+ minutes to the Kinston's not quite 8 minutes! I couldn't believe it, so I transferred it back, with an even bigger difference. Then I cleared both flashes and redid the original transfer with same result. In addition to the performance advantage, I find I really like the aesthetics of the Kingston. At first I was a little put off by its bright white color, but it works for a tiny object. It doesn't blend in - makes it hard to loose. Also, it comes with a very strong, very small attaching loop that attaches to it by a tiny key-ring type fastener. I find I prefer it to the large necklace sort of loop that takes up as much space as the drive! I mean, I'm not going to wear one around my neck, but I like that I can use the Kingston's little loop to hook it onto a set of keys, my phone, my calendar.

Strengths: Small physical size, large capacity, built-in applications that don't require installation on host PC, speed, reliability, 5 yr warranty.
Weaknesses: None I could find.
Summary: If you need a small, portable, and reliable USB drive from which you can run many useful applications w/o dependence on the host PC, the Kingston DataTraveler series seems ideal. It will never completely replace your existing applications, but for limited purposes, it works just fine. I find 1GB USB drives to be the ideal compromise between capacity and cost. More than enough capacity for most people without breaking the bank.

Strengths: Small, great price (rebate), security capabilities
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: 2008-02-25 12:38:45 I like this drive better than the Verbatim I used to use, in part because it has a flat profile, so you can plug it in without removing anything that might be plugged in the other USB port. The price was great for a 1GB drive (~$20 after rebate). I really only bought it to transfer and backup files (so much more convenient than a Zip disk or CD), so I haven't used the fancy U3 capabilities, but I can see how they would be really handy if you worked on more than one computers.
2/25/08 Update: This drive is still going strong. I accidentally washed AND dried in the laundry once and it still survived- amazing!
