Strengths: precision sound reproduction, versatile
Weaknesses: lacks 2nd room capability. EZset+ only works w/ 6 or more speakers
Summary: After using a Denon DRA-635 for 15 years, I felt it was time to move into the next century and the Harman Kardon AVR-240 receiver did NOT disappoint me. Although the Denon was a great receiver, (and I was considering the Denon AVR-1905 as a replacement) I must say that the Harman Kardon is every bit as good if not better and much more reasonably priced. One of it’s main selling points was an accessory called “The Bridge” which allows connection of an iPod. The iPod is fully functional through the Harman Kardon’s remote control and The Bridge charges the iPod as well. As for the unit itself, it is extremely versatile and sound quality is unsurpassed. On the surface, it’s 50 watts per channel may seem meager, but I have found that when coupled with a speaker Klipsch speaker system that is not extremely efficient, I have run into absolutely no instances of clipping or a lack or power. It has MORE than enough power and on top of that it is CLEAN power and that’s what it’s all about. For THD freaks the HK 240 is rated at

Strengths: Awesome sound clarity, many inputs, doesn't run very hot, more powerful than most other receivers in its class, convenient set up using EZ-Set+
Weaknesses: remote is a little awkward with a lot of small buttons, but that doesn't really matter to me because I'm using a Harmony universal remote
Summary: In my opinion, this is the best receiver in its class. I was also looking at similar Denon and Onkyo receivers, but neither matched my criteria of a quality, good looking unit at less than $500 with a handful of inputs and great sound quality. I would highly recommend this receiver to anyone that's looking for amazing sound without bursting the wallet. Note: I connected this unit with the 5.1 set of Athena Point 5's and the Athena AS-P4000 and it sounds incredible!

Strengths: Appearance, price, sound quality, build quality, easy to use
Weaknesses: A bit heavy (is that a weakness really?)
Summary: I got this unit for a friend and I was very impressed with it

overall especially considering it can be had for less than $300. Everything about the unit speaks of quality and the display is a very cool blue. It actually comes with two remotes and has a quality microphone for automatic tuning purposes. Although 50 watts per channel doesn't sound like a significant amount of power, it was more than enough to fill the medium sized living room with loud, clean sound. I'm guessing that other manufacturer's receivers in this price range rate their power higher but they have a higher level of distortion also. Overall it's an easy to setup and use receiver that puts out great sound and looks good to boot.

Strengths: Great sound and easy setup.
Weaknesses: Remote not so intuitive and could be better.
Summary: The sound on this receiver excellent, the power is more than enough for a Home Theater. It is very easy to setup and has all the connections that you need. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Strengths: NA
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: I bought the AVR240 for my parents as an upgrade/update to their AVR20. I got my AVR 330 a year and a half ago and these receivers still have that beautiful silver and dark screen design. Of course there is also the Harman trademark sound and power that separates them from the rest. Also, as for the price, shop around and you'll find this at less than $300, WOW!!!
