Strengths: - great picture
- compact
- nice design
- great value
Weaknesses: - battery life
- dvd capacity
Summary: First off, you have to realize this is a DVD camcorder. That means you get the convenience of burning your movie right onto DVDs (actually mini DVDs) which you can play on your DVD player. Unlike with mini DV camcorders, you don't have to transfer it your computer and then back onto dvd. Also, most mini DV camcorders require a firewire port. So if you are missing a dvd burner, firewire port and cable for your PC, you will have to buy those extra. a On the other hand, DVD camcorders inherently have some disadvantages too. Battery life and DVD capacity are bad. A fully charged battery will typically not last you longer than an hour. In addition, you are using mini DVDs (1.4GB capacity) that will last you about 20 minutes for high quality recording and 30 minutes for standard recording). If you don't want short DVD videos, you can transfer the files to your computer, use the editing software to combine scenes from different mini DVDs, and then burn onto a full-size DVD. I guess all DVD camcorders have this problem with battery life and DVD capacity. So if you are comparing the Canonc DC 10 with one of the Sony DVD camcorder models, there is little difference here. MiniDV camcorders last much longer for sure though. This takes me to my next point. If you don't mind the short battery life and DVD capacity, the Canon DC 10 is for you. The picture and sound are excellent. I have no complaints. I'm just an amateur I admit. There are probably are fine points I am missing. But if I don't notice them, I frankly don't care. The top reason to choose the DC 10 is value. Yes, that's right. If you want the top of the line camcorder, go ahead and buy an HD camcorder. If you want the best bang for the buck, go for the DC 10. I bought the DC 10, an extra battery, and a six-pack of mini DVD-RW for a total of approximately $570 and I'm expecting a $100 back on a rebate (-> $470). I'd say if you can get the camcorder for $500 (without the extras), it's still worth it. I don't think the Sony models have that kind of discount available.

Strengths: Easy to use, very compact, good pictures. It picks up sound very well.
Weaknesses: Battery doesn't last very long. It is best to get a spare. You can get a Cannon camcorder case with a spare battery and 4 DVD-R in a packege in a lot of electronic stores. That is what I got.
Summary: The Camcorder uses DVD-R and DVD-RW, not DVD+RW. I made a mistake of using DVD+RW. Also, Cannon's customer service is excellent. If you have trouble, call them.

Strengths: Small design, good shape with remote, clear picture and good sound!
Weaknesses: Battery's life is too short-need extra batteries & packs of mini DVD for the trip,no mini SD card go with Camcorder to shot photo (need to buy extra)

I did research this Camcorder for a while before buying and used it for my long trip oversea. I find out everything is OK so far.!

Strengths: excellent
Weaknesses: the fammat of the file
Summary: It is really a nice product. I like it very much. The LCD is good. The quality of the recording is good. And it is tight one and easy to use. The only concerning is that if the computer can read the recorded file without any other process it will be perfact.

Strengths: Small, great looks, excellent video quality, great colors. Great sound capture.
Weaknesses: The digital zoom isn't very good, but you can set the camcorder to operate within optical zoom. It doesn't have firewire. No case included.
Summary: For about 400 bucks this is a great camera today. The materials and general design are excellent. Haven't tried the photo. I was only interested in the video performance. I used the cheapest dvd media and it worked flawlessly. Finalizing the mini-dvd took about a minute and a half and my sony DVD player played it without a glitch. I'm very happy with this. I was concerned about the video quality after comparing it with the elura 100, but quality is great. This is smaller and looks a lot better than the elura 100 on the outside. If you are interested in long range zoom though, this probably isn't the best for you (likely the elura 100 is a better buy for about the same price). If you are a non-pro this is just great.

Strengths: Lightweight, records on DVD, 10x optical zoom.
Weaknesses: Uses digital stablization, not optical.
Summary: This is a great camcorder for anyone looking for one that is lightweight, fully featured, has a descent zoom range and from a reputable brand. Canon is known for great products and this is one of them. Recommended!

Strengths: Very pretty
Weaknesses: Battery life is not good.
Summary: 2006-07-13 11:19:38 I would recommend this nice little camcorder to every one. Because:
1. It is very pretty
2. Size of camcorder is awesome. It is the smallest DVD camcorder I've ever seen.
3. Very easy to use
4. Image quality is superior.
Battery life is not as good as I expected. But you can connect the power line when you use it inside the home.

Strengths: compact size, great value - you get a lot of camcorder for your money, easy to use as far as actually recording goes
Weaknesses: the optical zoom seems a bit weak and I'd say it loses quality under low light situations
Summary: The Canon DC 10 is a great value - I got mine through buydig.com and paid easily $100 less than if I'd bought in a chain electronics store. They shipped fast and were easy to deal with. But as far as the camera value itself goes, it does great too. I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to get the movies I recorded to talk to my computer - I figured that running Windows XP on a new computer would expedite the process... think again. The DC 10 uses DVD-R or DVD-RWs. No problem. It was just a problem getting the computer to recognize the disks. Despite what the manual says, I had to finalize the disks in order for the computer to acknowledge them and even then do some serious playing to get it to open in a program that I could use to edit the movies. Tech support at Canon told me that it was not possible to edit the disks on my PC once the disk had been finalized. They were wrong, but at least they were easily accessible. Overall I'd give the DC 10 a thumbs-up.
