Strengths: Camcorder and Still Camera in one.
Weaknesses: The upright form factor may feel awkward to those used to horizontal configuration camcorders.
Summary: I owned a Sony DCR TRV 30 mini DV prior to this unit.
The PC 330 has better low light color sensitivity for both video and stills. I was impressed by how I can get much better indoor still pictures without need for an accessory flash.
Because's there is more megapixels, I find a slight frustration waiting for the image to save to a memory stick. I haven't found a digital still yet that writes fast enough for me however. I'm getting a memory stick pro hoping for faster write times.
The holographic autofocus target appears as a grid of laser segments that helps in low light focusing. Nightframing is basically a nightshot mode to help you compose the picture with the still saving in color with a flash.
The upright form factor is a bit awkward for me to handle. I'm used to the traditional horizontal orientation camcorders. I have slender fingers and can cope. Big fingered operators may feel things are too small.
The weight and size factor are a big plus. It's great to have 2 cameras in one especially for vacations, backpacking, etc.
The touchscreen LCD is easy to see even in full daylight - a great improvement. The touchscreen custom programming is a plus for features I like to access more frequently.
The Progressive Scan is good technology for the future. I find it a good way to capture images to get a still image without interlacing. Think of it as a 30 frame per second autowinder to tape. Digital stills captured from this recording format are 640 x 480.
The price is steep compared to other models but I am pleased with the camera.
