ianlotinsky from MD Member Since: Sep 2003 View Member's: Reviews Product Experience: 2 Years	Unpredictable Strengths: Client-side driver and admin apps, web-based admin, IPP capability, can act as a DHCP server, can allocate a static IP to it, it can grab docs from a POP3 account and print them, etc. Weaknesses: Had to buy a cable to connect print server to printer. Pinging the print server usually only has a 25% success rate. Have to reset it at least once each time I want to print. Summary: 2006-09-23 12:11:42 This is THE worst piece of hardware I have ever purchased. Word 2003 takes 30 seconds or more to open up a document or to perform Insert/Symbol because it expects some info from the print server, which it is not doing. (Make sure to open up the ports for IPP in your clients' firewalls.) Tech support doesn't appear to be working under a formal process (some techs know their stuff, others don't have a clue.) I will never buy another Hawking Technology hardware component. After two years of agony, I will be putting it on craigslist (and warning any takers). 100% of People (2/2) found this review helpful. Strengths: The wizard makes this product very easy to configure. Works like a charm. Weaknesses: Firmware on their site disables the device. Tech support number was busy when I called. Summary: I bought this thing yesterday and It was working great until I decided to upgrade the firmware. Now the configuration wizard won't recognize the device and I can't reach the web configuration page either. Before the upgrade it was working great, it does exacly what it says it will do. Using the setup wizard on the cd allowed me to configure the print server and bind my deskjet to it with hardly any effort at all. I would recommend this product, but don't try to upgrade the firmware unless you're adressing a specific issue. 100% of People (1/1) found this review helpful. Strengths: Easy to get up and running Weaknesses: Upgrading with the wrong drivers disabled it. Had to get it replaced. Summary: The Hawking Print server is very similar to the NetGear unit although I found the latter to be a bit more user friendly. Once I installed the software on the main PC, printing worked flawlessly as did it when I installed the software on the client machines. I was also able to print to it from my Mac but not through Appletalk although it is enabled. The NetGear worked flawlessly with both IP and Appletalk. 100% of People (1/1) found this review helpful. Included documentation was adequate. Two year warranty. Weaknesses: Quality. Summary: With less than two weeks worth of flawless use the unit suddently quit working. No lights, no power, nothing. Sent back to Hawking for warranty adjustment. Received notification from Hawking that a replacement unit has been shipped. Strengths: The HPS1P Print Server Sets up easily and is relatively easy to configure by either the Web based interface or by the adminstration software included. Weaknesses: The documentation had several inaccuracies which were solved by trial and error. For example, to configure IPP, manual shows the URL as "http://IP/lpt1:631". Correct config is "http://IP:631/lpt1". Summary: Aside from the inaccuracies of the manual, the HPS1P is a solid, reliable product. The website lists an email address to ask additional tech support questions. All of my questions were answered within a few days. 67% of People (2/3) found this review helpful. N/A Member Since: Product Experience: 4 Years	Horrible Product Strengths: Small, easy to install / setup Weaknesses: Can handle many documents or non standard documents. Summary: This is not a product for more than 5 PCs. I ran this on a HP LaserJet printer with 32 Workstations sharing it. A year ago it worked fine even when all 32 stations printed to it, but now it just stopped. No matter what I send it never sends the data to the printer. Don't know what happen??? Weaknesses: printing is not as fast as I thought. Summary: I think the product is good for small office or home use. If you want speed then, buy a network printer instead.
