Strengths: They are the brightest speakers I have ever heard. They re-produce life-like vocals, ear-bleeding strings from the tweeters, and are great for music depth.
Weaknesses: Not as boomy as Infinity, Boston, or Rockford door speakers. You will need a subwoofer or under-seat bass shakers to suplement because of this.
Summary: I have the component system up front, 6.5 inch door speakers and tweeters. And just regular Polk Momo 6.5" coaxials in the rear. They are run off a 5 channel Eclipse amp, with 40 watts per channel. (the 5th channel is powering my Aura under-seat bass shakers)
These speakers can take up to 75 watts, but they perform to a very high level with the 40 watts of juice I am giving them.
Now I know this song doesnt technically qualify for a strings test, but if you buy the "Metallica Ultimate Tribute CD" and play the track 'Nothing else matters' these tweeters will make your jaw drop and you will be slobbering all over your pants listening to these amazing speakers pluck those dang strings.
I have a nice alpine head unit and have bass set to zero (I run all frequency below 80 to my Kicker 12" L7). And I have treble set to +4. These speakers are so great, they are simply put: BRIGHT. They are not dull or easily drowned out. They will make sure you hear what is going on.
For me, the ultimate test for speakers is the Linkin Park song "Lying away from me" If the sub can handle the low notes in this song, the speakers mid-range can handle Chester Bennington hollering his guts out, and the tweeters can still toss that whatever noise it is in the mix... and the symbols and drum hits are pronounced, then my friends, we have a winner--- and these polks are winners.
I compared them to MB Quartz, Boston, Alpine, JL Audio, Pioneer, and Jensen door speakers. THe only thing I would say is that the Bostons are a very close second place. But the others were definitely far far behind the Polk and Bostons.
I am very satisfied with my purchase. Although I am loyal to Boston, these Polks were like the forbidden fruit in the garden. I just had to give in.
