 emachines refurbished PC Strengths: Lots of features for low price.
Weaknesses: Units may not be fully checked out during "refurbishment."
Summary: I purchased a "refurbished" Emachines PC from tigerdirect.com . The CD-RW was bad and the internal modem would not stay on line for more than 15 minutes before dropping off line. The case had scratches that led me to believe it had been abused. My guess is the unit was not checked out completely before it was shipped and doubt it saw the inside of a factory for its "refurbishment."
Their customer service was good but it took a number of calls to sort out problems. They sent a replacement CD-RW that I installed myself and returned the failed unit via a prepaid mailer. They also sent a replacement modem card which didn't work any better so I purchased an external USB modem which worked great.
The PC has worked well since. The first several weeks of tech assist phone calls and shipping parts were very frustrating and I had the feeling I was doing the refurbishing for emachines.
My recommendation is to pass up any emachines "refurnished" unit, no matter how good a deal it seems.
