Strengths: It's good looking and efficient. And good value for money. Rechargable battery is good.
Weaknesses: Pity the owner can't change the battery when the time comes. Instruction book is worthless. Needs a support for the iPod nano.
Summary: I agree with most of the comments by other reviewers. If you like really loud music - I don't - this may not be for you. It's fine for personal use but it may not be loud enough if you have 20 people talking or dancing in a small room. The rechargable battery is a definite plus because it makes it truly portable. Pity it can't be replaced by the owner when it becomes necessary. I have one beef. I have an iPod nano. There is no support for it so it has to sit free on the plug. This makes it difficult to use the iPod controls to change the music. Logitech should make an extra bit of plastic available on request to anyone who has a nano already, and pack one in future speakers. I cannot give 5 stars because of this. I have another problem. Sometimes when I change the music on the iPod, the speaker carries on playing the earlier piece. I haven't found out how to prevent this.

Strengths: Remote, rechargable battery, dock connector on unit, aux input, carry case, great volume.
Weaknesses: Bass is a little lacking. Remote range is way to short.
Summary: I love this unit. I take it with me everywhere, party, grilling, pool, camping, etc... It's so small, portable, and light it can go anywhere. I looked at ALL the current speakers on the market when I bought this and aside from being much cheaper ($300 Bose anyone?) it has a rechargeable battery when most of the others on the market, when most other units are still going with the AA or even D batteries. This was the only unit that had the combo of, remote, rechargeable, and not as big as a suitcase. The only grip I have with the unit is that the remote range is WAY to short. About 10ft is the max I get and I almost have to be directly in front of the unit, that could really use a boost. I just bought my brother one cause he kept stealing mine! This is a product that if I lost or broke it, I would have to replace it ASAP. Buy this!

Slick As A Brick
Strengths: Excellent sound quality. Solid construction. Carry pouch. Rechargeable battery life. Remote. Matching iPod-esque industrial design.
Weaknesses: No room for AC charger in carry pouch.
Summary: 2006-10-19 20:21:21 This little slab produces impressively clean sound. Of course, there is no real bass, but compared to any other portable sound system, it more than holds its own, without any tubby over-emphasis in the upper bass. Clarity and detail in the midrange are excellent, giving it very good presence.
The 3D processing is predictably a mixed bag - it depends on program material and your position relative to the unit. Sounds that are panned hard right or left usually appear to emanate at least two feet outside the unit, giving it a five-foot sound stage.
While the battery yields a good amount of play between charges, the carry pouch really should have been designed to accommodate the charger. On trips away from home, I'm sure the mm50 will likely double as a charging dock for the iPod, so this oversight is puzzling. Since portability is what this is all about, this warrants a half-star deduction.
Considering the features and performance (and Logitech's stated intention to make replacement batteries available to consumers), for the price this is a clear winner.
[Oct 19] The battery isn't as robust as I would like. The best it gives is about seven hours at low to moderate volume, and less than six at full volume. Not a very good performance for a supposedly new Li-ion battery! Logitech replaced it with a "new" one, but judging from the serial number, it's stock that's about as old as the original one, and the battery performs identically. Not so much an indictment of Logitech as it is the lifespan of this kind of power cell.

Strengths: A sturdy, well-designed unit with better than average sound. The good portability and function of the remote are important for its particular application as a music
accompanist.
Weaknesses: A little light on the low end.
Summary: In comparison to the other portable Ipod speakers I've tested the Logitech mm 50 provides better-than-average sound and a well-engineered system at a fair price. The unit's case is also sturdy and should provide good service.

Strengths: The Unit is a strong, well built one piece unit. It has well placed controls, and is easy to set up.The carry case is well made. It is NOT a flimsy unit, and should stand up to long service.
Weaknesses: The A/C adaptor is a bit large. You cannot turn on the unit with the remote.
Summary: 2005-12-03 09:36:19 These speakers for the iPod are the best value in terms of price vs. performance. I would put these a scant notch below the Bose system, and at 1/3 the cost. While no portable speaker system is built for room filling sound, these MM 50's are perfect for your desk or bedroom dresser. I find them just perfect for my lifestyle.
A suggestion to Logitech Engineers would be to make the A/C adaptor smaller and with a folding plug. This would enable users to carry the A/C adaptor INSIDE the carry case. The adaptor would fit neatly in the space where the iPod unit would be. Other than that,I can't find any faults.

Strengths: Very portable, rechargeable battery, charges ipod. No moving door part to worry about like the Altec Lansing IM7. Good build quality (doesn't seem flimsy). Foldable legs.
Weaknesses: No room in the travel bag for charger. Battery is not replaceable. AC adapter is large (2x3x1.25). It doesn't even have foldable prongs.
Summary: 2006-04-15 19:33:47 I bought the Altec Lansing IM7 for myself and Logitech mm50 for the kids. The IM7 is more powerful. But for the money, portability, this speaker is great. I saw 2 IM7s on display at Costco: one was locked so you couldn't open it, the other was not connected to the power source, but the door didn't stay closed. I read another user's review who returned his to Costco after 3 weeks when the door stopped working. I don't feel so comfortable with the moving door, which can break like your cassette player's door. The IM7 is heavy, bulky and does not have rechargeable battery. In the end, I returned the IM7 to buy the MM50.
Sound is very adequate. The 3D button makes a difference on some songs, but not all. There is no deep bass. If you have an ipod case/cover, it will not fit in the dock. You have to remove it. Some reviewers complained of not having the adapter for smaller ipods in order to dock their ipods. It must be new/old stock issue. Mine comes with two adapters. The instructions said if you have an ipod larger than 40GB then the inserts are not needed. One insert is for nano. I use the other one for my video ipod. I think you can contact Logitech to get the adapter mailed to you if your box doesn't come with it.
If you're just using this for general listening (not for a party), then this product will do its job. Sound is good. Just don't expect it to be an entertainment system.

Strengths: Includes remote control; solid build quality; docking cradle; above-average sound quality in small package; carrying case
Weaknesses: "3D stereo technology"; lack of bass
Summary: The only thing my wife loves more than her iPod are these speakers! We needed a small set of speakers for our office and wanted to be able to charge the iPod at the same time, and this fit the bill perfectly. The unit is solid, though much smaller than anticipated. Good things sometimes come in small packages! The first thing I noticed (after the build quality) was the rich sound, as good as much more expensive and larger units I demo'd at the store. The "3D" button doesn't seem to do much, but does add some depth to the sound. The carrying case is nice, and will help when we take this camping or to a picnic. The remote control is limited in functionality but serves its purpose - it's a nice-to-have extra. Overall, a great product for the price.

Strengths: Excellent sound. Great battery life. Includes case and remote.
Weaknesses: Size could be a problem for some, but is fine for me.
Summary: These iPod speakers are the best I have found so far. The speakers sound very clear and steady even played at full volume. The speakers include a nice case and remote control. The case is excellent for traveling (which I do often). Just put everything inside, including the remote, and pack your bag.
I've been getting anywhere from 7-9 hours batter life when I use the speakers not plugged into the wall.
Another great feature is that you can use the speakers as an iPod dock. Just plug your existing iPod cable into the back and use the speakers as a sync dock.

Strengths: Portability, GREAT sound quality, Remote Control
Weaknesses: No sleep timer to turn the MM50 off. Loss of iPod audio while connected to another audio source. No scanning thru a song or audiobook to find your place.
Summary: Logitech MM50's audio input jack allows you to use another audio source BUT plugging a cable into this jack mutes the iPod's audio.
Outside of the above mentioned, the Logitech MM50 speakers are still the best in my opinion. Nothing comes close to being portable with this kind of sound quality and a remote control too.

Strengths: Excellent sound quality, charges IPod, nice carrying case/remote
Weaknesses: Should be able to get louder
Summary: This system is very clear and relatively small compared to the bose sound dock. It has a very clean look to it. The carrying caseis very nice and the remote control that comes with the system is a great bonus. Although the sound is clear, I wish this system would get a louder. Overall this a great value for the price.

Strengths: Great sound, portable, comes with case and adapters.
Weaknesses: none
Summary: I got this for Christmas and set it up right away, didn't even need any instructions-bonus! Took to work and sounds great in a small space. Love the clean lines.

Strengths: Great sound, compact, looks good, nice case.
Weaknesses: Wimpy bass, distorts easily, AC adapter does not fit in case.
Summary: This is a great little system to go, except I wish the AC adapter would fit in the very nice travel case. It gets fairly loud considering it's size, but the bass wimps out. I have taken it on a couple of trips now and it is a great way to take a little piece of your home with you. I can not give 5 stars because of; Wimpy bass (but not bad for size) No room for AC adapter in case, $99.00 would be a much better base price.

Strengths: Easy to set up. Great sound quality . The portablilty factor is a major plus.
Weaknesses: Not to be used as a speaker system in a large room. Cannot hear music easily in a heavily populated room. Sound is just not loud enough to hear over many people conversing.
Summary: I use this in my classroom with my ipod so my students can listen to music while they are in the science lab. It is not too loud where I have to scream overtop the music and not too low where my students cannot hear what is being played.
