I did a lot of research and visited many stores looking at Sony, Pansonic, Toshiba and Hitachi. Based on price alone I ruled out the Sony. The Pany that I wanted (PX500U model's) was not available anytime soon. The Toshiba won for price, $3500 for 50inch, and features as in hook-ups as well as picture, real blacks and super sound. This set was ready to go out of the box with stand already attached. Hooked it up and turned it on it took about 8 minutes to do a full channel scan on premium cable and I was off to the races. I have watched 2 NFL games in hi-def and they are awesome pictures. Crisp clean colors that can be seen from any angle with no fade or distortion. Alot of bells and whistles for your money. My regular Dish signal looks good with the Toshiba video processing signal. DVD's are like being at the theater. Weaknesses: Side panel access improves the cosmetics of the cabinet, however it isn't real practicle to use. Summary: This is an equivalent to the Panasonic TH-50PX500U with many more features and for less money. Toshiba USA doesn't have the manual online, but Toshiba Canada does.
