Great Software!

Strengths: Very powerful and flexible

Weaknesses: Takes time to learn how to use it

Summary: Other reviewers who rate this software 1 star do not know what they're doing. True, this software is for more advanced movie producers, but it is very powerful and has a great interface. If you're a beginner, it's going to take you a while to get comfortable with it, but you can do so many cool things, you'll be amazed at the quality of movie you can make and the precision with which you can edit video. It's one of the best out there!

Works Great For Me!

Strengths: Intuitive; Easy to learn; built-in help with "how to" feature; meets all of my needs for home video and youtube postings; online purchase gets you up-and-running in no time

Weaknesses: none... well, I wouldn't mind if it were a little cheaper (paid around $80 for it)

I'm already a user of various other Sony (former Sonic Foundry) products, so the interface is very familiar to me, but honestly, I don't think it is too hard to learn as indicated by other reviews. If you have any doubts, Sony offers a free 30-day trial download from their site so you can judge for yourself with no risk at all (they don't make you enter a credit card to get the free download). And don't be afraid to use the built-in help if you get stuck!

Using a PC now over five years and a retired cumpu ...

Strengths: None

Weaknesses: No Directions, hidden icons, Combination icons, Burning verifycation is non existing

Summary: Using a PC now over five years and a retired cumputer specialist for a large midwest telephone company, I was appalled that this program had the name "SONY" on it. That was the reason I purchased this program. The instruction booklet had so many pitfalls and confusing direction, try as might, I could not get the second song to load on a simple picture compulation. The program burned the DVD without checking the drive for a valid disc. This to me boggles my mind. I was not able to produce any disc from this program and scrapped it entirely. By the way, still waiting for my rebate. DO NOT BUY THIS PROGRAM!

Vegas Movie Studio + DVD

Strengths: None

Weaknesses: Voices don't match mouth moving in videos, and it takes 2 different programs to make a movie, neither which is compatible formats with the other.

Summary: I bought this program since it was made by Sony, I figured it would work well with my new Sony Handycam camcorder, boy was I wrong. It is not a good software for beginners trying to make a DVD from camcorder footage. The manual doesn't help you at all. It explains how to do something as if you have a movie producer dictionary on hand and have been doing it for decades. It actually comes with 2 programs. The first one is just to get your videos off the camera and add a title or such, the second program "Movie Architecht" is actually what makes it into a movie with chapters and such. The crazy thing is that the second program does not accept the format that the first programs saves it as. You have to then render it into another format, which takes forever, then attempt to make a movie in the "architecht" software. So you then have about 10 video files saved onto your computer, which is not necessary if the software would all be the same format compatible. I hate this software !!!! Worst of all, in the videos, the voices of the people do not match up with the mouths moving. This makes for a very aggravating dvd to watch. Don't buy this software..ITS TERRIBLE !!!!

Full function video editing made easy

Strengths: Powerful features, stable quality software, good menu creation tools. Includes a tutorial CD

Weaknesses: Requires time to learn to use; no storyboard view.

Summary: 2008-04-11 09:39:25 I got tired of the buggy video editing software I was using before and I decided to try the Sony bundle. This package is really good. The interface is not as beginner friendly as my old software but it does everything I had before. That includes 3 video tracks, the ability to save a group of settings and apply them as needed as well as support for every file format I tried. Not only is this a much more reliable program, the bundled DVD Architect makes creating professional looking DVDs a snap. All in all, Sony Movie Studio is a winner of an application.
