Strengths: Quiet. Quick dual core, plenty of RAM. Custom build your machine with MANY options (with Java pop-ups to
help you choose). It took 7.5 days from order to delivery(TX or TN to MN).
Weaknesses: No legacy printer port (either get an add-on PCI card or a new USB printer)
No AMD CPU's offered.
Summary: 2005-11-02 19:23:53 XPS400 is the new name for the Dimension 9100.
The memory and monitor offerings improved just before I bought this in early October. Very nice "ultra-sharp 1704FPT" 17" monitor. Rotate vertically if you want. (TEXT is VERY sharp at 1280x1024 -although a tad small (similar in size to 1024x768 on a 15"CRT) (monitor has 5:4 aspect ratio-matches native resolution)- other resolutions not as sharp (I agree with the other reviewer of this monitor in th 9100 review).
Seven USP ports, (10 or 11 if you connect one to the monitor (not all monitors have this)).
Boots quickly. Burning CD's and watching movies is painless.
It crashed already, but closed the program and I continued without rebooting.
Asking questions on the phone before buying was OK although the rep really wanted to sell over the phone. Tech support (I did something stupid) was outstanding.
Based on on-line CPU reviews, if you want mostly to play games, get the Dimension 5100 with a faster single core processor (640(3.2Ghz) or 650(3.4Ghz)vs.[820(2.8Ghz)on the XPS400]) with the same options for the same price.
