 Pretty good but has some unacceptable glitches Strengths: Eeasy set up and use, good picture quality

Summary: I bought the unit in 11/05 and found this dvd/vcr recorder/player was very easy to set up and records the formats it says. VCR to DVD dubbing and vice versa is a cinch. The picture quality is very good, even at extended recoding which gives you 6 hours on the disk. The unit has a real glitch, however: in 'timer recording' it will verifyably record as usual, to almost the end of the disk, then suddenly it will no longer recognize the disk and will not show any recordings on the disk nor finalize it. I've lost a number of valuable timer recordings and dvd disks this way and find this glitch to be unacceptable. I took the unit back to Best Buy and they gave me a hard time, even though the unit is under warranty. They finally agreed to 'fix' it, but when I received it back it did the same thing. I'll take it back again with the hope they will allow me to trade it in for another brand. I think there is a glitch in the software. There is no software upgrade available. Also, the unit supposedly has a sorround sound playback function, but you have to go through 'set up' to get to it and it resets automatically to non-sorround sound every time you press 'stop', extremely annoying.
