Strengths: Very easy to use, very compact, and powered by iPod itself
Weaknesses: Weak FM signal, and poor sound quality.
Summary: I am a little disappointed at the poor sound quality from iTrip, even when I turned up the iPod volume to 3/4 of max, as recommended by iTrip. I would look for another way of playing iPod through car stereo system.

Strengths: easy to use, can tune to "international" frequencies such as 87.7
Weaknesses: Might not work with the 4G video ipods?
Summary: I live in Chicago, where all frequencies from 88.1 through 107.9 have radio stations transmitting from somewhere. I thought I would have to return it because I would get interference from radio stations on every frequency at one time or another during my commute.
Then I discovered that the iTrip has an "international" mode for transmitting on frequencies lower than 88.1, it was bliss from then on. I set the iTrip and my car radio to 87.7 and never noticed interference again.
In addition, it was simple to use and had excellent sound quality.

Strengths: User friendly, Small, Wireless
Weaknesses: Uses up alot battery power
Summary: I would definately recommend this product to anyone who is interested in playing their Ipod through a radio. It is simple to use and the radio channel dial works great. It is wireless and very small. The only problem is on long trips it uses up alot of battery power so I would recommend getting a car charger if you are planning on using it for road trips.

FM Transmitter tips
Strengths: looks good and easy to use
Weaknesses: Static on a crowded fm band
see below
Summary: I have also had some difficulty with these FM transmitters.
Where I live (NY) there is a transmitter on every channel
on the fm dial. It is nearly impossible to find a clear
channel on which to transmit your audio from your ipod to
your FM receiver in your car. You will have cochannel interference and static. No doubt about it. People in rural areas with less transmitters on the FM band will have reduced static and interference problems.
I solved my problem by removing my antenna from the outside of the car.
I have a VW GTI and it was easy for me to remove, unscrew it and reduce my radio's sensitivity. In this way you reduce cochannel interference. And with the itrip transmitter so close to the radio, The FM capture effect will lock you onto the itrip's signal and give you clear reception.
If it is easy for you to do, Try this and see if it helps.
The nest best thing is a hard wired connection.
Crutchfield has them in stock but they are expensive
and more difficult to install. But they will reward you
with better sound and no interference or static.
Another advantage is that you may switch quickly back
to listen to fm radio for traffic/weather reports without
reinstalling your antenna. In all the Itrip is good for
quick installations and inexpensive budgets for those of you who have already blown your budget on a new ipod.
If your more serious about your audio and have no need for
a portable solution, there are better ways out there.
Enjoy your ipod......

Close....but no cigar.
Strengths: Dial on the side is very convenient. No more saving stations as playlists! Multiple stations to pick from.
Weaknesses: Static, static, static! The sound quality is never clear...there is always static.
Summary: I would not recommend this product to a friend. The convenient feature of the station dial knob does not outweigh the headache of all the static. Also, it will not plug into the iPod if you have a rubber skin protector.

Great concept - mediocre execution
Strengths: The ability to tune to any available channel without playing a "tuning track" on the iPod, the LCD display, and the fact that it receives power from the iPod (no batteries required!).
Weaknesses: Transmission power is somewhat weak.
Summary: I'd like to see this produce less static. Initially, I assumed that I was simply picking distant stations that provided interference with the iTrip signals, but after a month of trying many stations in my home town as well as in other cities throughout the U.S., I've determined that picking the right station combined with very specific iPod placement is critical to transmitting a signal that produces minimal static (it seems that it never goes away completely).

Strengths: Ease of use, infinitely tunable, no batteries, inexpensive
Weaknesses: Uses iPod batteries faster, small loss in fidelity
Summary: I replaced a cassette device for this one and am I glad. The iTrip works cleanly and static-free with any radio, not just my auto radio. I use it in my office in conjunction with my tabletop FM to listen to my podcasts there. The small loss in fidelity is only descernabled in my high-end classicla pieces. Bottomline; this is a must have device.

iTrip LCD: DOA
Strengths: None
Weaknesses: Dead on arrival
Summary: The automatic volume control turned the volume off whenever the device was in use. The item was defective out of the box. I cannot tell you anything about how it might have functioned if it had not continually shut down.

Strengths: clean modern design, lcd display, wide range of fm channels, better than average sound, good size that matches your ipod. works automatically with the player and turns power off with it as well.
Weaknesses: none that i could think of.
Summary: i was looking for an fm transmitter that i could use in the car and elsewhere, hence i dropped the idea of getting one that is exclusive to car radio through auto charger. the new itrip has lcd display and works with most unused fm channels. the sound quality is better than expected, and compares with the audio from a cassette adapter. the sleek modern design and size that matches with my regular ipod seals the deal. with bonus from pricegrabber and great price from online store, this works out to cost me $24.

Strengths: The design of the iTrip matches the iPod by being predominantly white and has a chrome wheel on the right, which is used to scan for a radio station. Easy to use. Clear frequency.
Weaknesses: The only weakness is that it adds more weight and size to the iPod.
Summary: 2005-10-11 11:57:04 Another positive for the iTrip is that it fits on top without having to remove my clear plastic cover from my 30GB iPod Photo. The chrome knob easily scans radio stations, and the iTrip was clearly picked up by a station. The iTrip sounded better than my cassette adapter.

Strengths: Convenient, easy to use, good sound quality
Weaknesses: Does not work well in areas where the FM dial is loaded with competing signals and that has no unused frequencies.
Summary: I travel a lot. The iTrip transmitter works extremely well in most countries except in my densely populated home city in the USA. The iTrip is very useful because many cars still do not have audio jacks.

Strengths: - turn-wheel LED interface is simple and quick
- small and portable. I have used this in 5 countries and it works perfect!
Weaknesses: - it could come with a casing to protect it's nether regions while not in use
Summary: I love this product, it's easy to use, goes with you anywhere in the world, and always works. If there's one thing you can count on in any country, it's a car radio. Having my music anywhere I go makes this little device one of my most used pieces of technology I own.

Like a cat - good to have around if you don't expect too much
Strengths: sets up easily, and it works
Weaknesses: weak signal
Summary: It plugs right in and sets up quickly and intuitively. The mounting to the top of the iPod allows you charge the iPod from the bottom. Changing channels is easy. The problem is that the signal is so weak that the iPod has to held right next to the radio to get a strong, static-free signal. Also, if the radio market is cluttered, it's hard to find a clear frequency; when traveling, the channel has to be shifted as active channels change. This model is half the cost of the newer model that mounts to the bottom of the iPod. At the price, it's a good device to have around, but don't think of it as high-fidelity.

Strengths: Works on older iPods
Weaknesses: This will not work with the new Video iPods
Summary: Originally bought the product assuming that it would work with the Video iPod but unfortunately it doesn't. For those that have older ones, I guess it's still good.
