Strengths: Simple easy out of the box operation. Small in size but equal to a lot of the big guys for getting it done.
Weaknesses: Nothing worth mentioning.
Summary: My wife and I were a little intimidated when we first opened the box. It took us less then a half hour to figure it all out. Trial runs in the house and then running around our town. The next day we were experts. Great piece of technology. We are 75.

Strengths: Small, highly portable, accurate, practical features, affortable,...
Weaknesses: Scroll switch is OK to use while not driving but not recommend while driving, left and right buttons can be more softer for operation.
Summary: I was debating between a bigger device and the i5, I am glad that I chose the i5 because it is more portable and this also operates with batteries. I would recommend the i5 over i2/3 since it comes with pre-loaded maps. Save lots of time on loading maps before trips. Screen is a bit small but figure will not really spend too much time on looking at the maps while driving and most likely to rely on the voice direction. One advantage of a small device is that it will not block much of your view as distraction. It is pretty accurate and the auto re-route feature is much useful, so no more worry of missing turns and detour problems. For turns, device will give you warning twice at different distances (unless it is a short turn) so make sure take the first warning as a slow down warning before the second warning comes. I am now ready for my up-coming 10 hours driving trip.

3 Star ReviewHelpful system
Strengths: Small, convenient, decent price
Weaknesses: Takes a long time in locating satellites, no touch screen
Summary: I got this because I had to move to another city in the summer and it helped me out a lot. From going to the office to restaurants, it's a life saver! But recently, it's been acting up stating that I have to update my maps and it's taking forever to locate satellites. Guess I have to update the maps, which I have yet to figure out how to update it.

Strengths: The unit size is really small which makes it easy to take from car to car and pack when flying to other locations. It has a well lit display and easy menu access.
Weaknesses: Doesn't seem to route the way you would like even though certain settings have been selected. Does not last long on batteries. POIs need to be updated. Several have the wrong names or do not exsist.
Summary: The unit for the most part is "good". There are a few things that need to be addressed. The routing doesn't seem to follow the setting you specify in the unit. It still wants to route you down gravel and dirt roads even though you have selected to not route you down them.

The mount is great and allows you to place it in several locations depending on the type of vehicle you are in and the power adapter is plenty long enough to reach most of the outlets I have used. There are several POIs that have changed names several years ago or no longer exist. I have encountered several of them in the short time I have been using the unit. This was the same on my previous Garmin unit also. I really hope that they get these updated since I use them often.

There is a beta software update that is available for download but with my experiences with beta software I will wait until the final release. I rely too much on my GPS to have it out of commission or not reliable.

I will still continue to use Garmin products because of their reliability and value.

Strengths: friendly to use, easy to navigated around, great for travel because of his size
Weaknesses: spaeaker volume, options to navigated around.
Summary: Street Pilot I5 is a mini/super GPS, do not take for granted the size... is a great unit to navigate in or around town, the size is a plus since is easy to carry on a nd switch between cars

Strengths: Little, acurate, uses both 2xAA batteries or adapter
Weaknesses: No touchscreen
Summary: I love this GPS. I use this for my traveling, and it is very easy to use, inexpensive, and has hotels, gas stations, food locations, and more, all build in. It also includes all of North America, so there are no maps to load into the unit. The only challenge, is that because there are no touch screen, you use the wheel to move up and down to select letters and numbers (like for the name of a hotel or an address).

Strengths: ease of use.
Weaknesses: documnentation incomplete. Manuals don't inform you that you use the USB port as the external 12V adaptor connection point and doesn't identify the external antenna port.
Summary: I like the ease of use. You can setup the unit directly from the onscreen menus. The unit takes some time to acquire the satellite. However, once the satellites are acquired, the unit navigates very accuately. The unit informed me that I had completed my trip 30 yards within the end point. I also like the ability t be able to store a number of favorite routes along with a home route. This makes it easier for me to travel to my favorite destinations without having to worry about remembering different routes. It is a good value for the money. The only thing I would like would be to have the street names called out for the turns rather than just turn in xx feet.

Strengths: Works directly out of box, no downloading needed. Size is perfect. More features for it's price.
Weaknesses: Haven't found any yet.
Summary: I did a lot of research before purchasing this. It is definitely worth the money. Has the most features. It even talks to my husband (who is from England) with a British accent.

Strengths: Accurate, small yet legible,ULTRA portable, ready out of the box, affordable, and did i mention scary accurate?
Weaknesses: As far as i'm concerned this unit performed extremely well for me, sometimes(rarely)depending on where you are,it will lose a signal, but quickly regains it/recalculates and puts you back on track.
Summary: 2006-04-19 21:30:07 Never having owned a GPS, i decided to read some reviews on them(weeks of reading). The thing i was looking for in one was portability, affordability and a way to mount it on my new motorcyle( it just so happens the i5 suction cups rite to my speedometer of my '05 S50 Suzuki 800)i do alot of joy riding and traveling and the i5 has made it so much more enjoyable. Car to car is a sinch too...badda-bing-badda-boom.The suction cup is sturdy and very well made. They claim ordinary batteries last 4 to 6 hours depending on usage and for the most part its true, and yes batteries get expensive, which prompted me to get a set of 8(something you may want to consider) rechargable AA Ni-MH (2500 mah),and i tried them today for 1st time, they lasted 6 and a half hours, that solved the battery problem, so im very pleased with that purchase too.Cant say enough about how this thing makes driving/ridng fun, especially with the preference settings. The scroll button feature was a big complaint on the reviews, but easy to get used to.The i5 also has daylight savings time feature,(something no one mentioned to me) where it will go to night colors automatically(very cool!!!).The spoken directions although nice,i only use the visual(which i think saves battery life), and hey...who cares if i miss a turn, the i5 will get me back on track. It also helps if you're online, you can map out where you want to go...get an address and go!!! For the money, the i5 is a bangin' deal and i highly recommend it!!!!!

Strengths: Size, easy of use right out of the box, intuitive menus, accuracy, may be used with AA batteries, and the best part is the price.
Weaknesses: Suction cup mount tends to fall off after limited useage.
Summary: I've been looking for a small portable GPS that can be used with various vehicles (including a motorcycle) and the i5 seemed to fit the bill. This unit is not recommended for a motorcycle because it's not water proof, but I don't usually ride in the rain, so that's not an issue for me. I was extremely pleased with the ease of use right out of the box. This unit has very intuitive menus and is very easy to use. Obviously there are other products that offer a few more features such as announcing the street name, more way points, touch screens, and blue tooth, but the price is 2-3 times more. If you're looking for a small portable GPS that gets the job done at a very attractive price, I would highly recommend the Garmin i5. Hopefully Ram will make a motorcycle mount for this unti in the near future.

Strengths: Accurate, up-to-date map and portable
Weaknesses: No street name on voice prompt.
Summary: The device works flawlessly in a trip from Boston to Montreal to Quebec back to Boston. Map is accurate, not a single wrong direction, even on the very remote Ice hotel in Quebec and the recently finished BigDig's highway/local street in Boston. POI is extensive. All hotel location was find from POI menu. The estimated time of arrival is very accurate, except when traffic jam or accident happened. Battery is pretty good. It is portable enough for me to even used it for walking around Quebec city, instead of carrying a map. Scroll button worked well even on bumpy roadway. Great small easy to use basic GPS system!!

Strengths: Accurate, Never get lost again!!!!!
Weaknesses: Suction cup dosent last long.
Summary: I have been using the Street Pilot I5 for almost 4 months now. I purchased this GPS as we relocated to Michigan and ever since I have had this I have not lost my way at all. It is real value for money and I have used it in Canada as well. Very good equipment and would recommend this over other systems

Strengths: Love it. Easy to use. Plug it in and find your way.
Weaknesses: NA
Summary: The GPS was just as ordered. It has all the bells and whistles that you need in a small inexpensive unit. The screen is small but not to small and it talks to you anyway. It is so good I am getting lazy with looking up directions.

Strengths: Small screen with great visibility, price, easy to maneuver, roller wheel for typing took about 3 minutes to adjust to, very good contrast and color, never had a touch screen...so I don't miss it.
Weaknesses: Would love a built in battery...but since it has a car adapter included, that's not a big deal.
Summary: After using the unit, I couldn't wait to come back and write a positive review. I labored over which unit to by. Read reviews about this unit and was a bit scared by the "weakness" ratings. Eventually, trusted that since it was a Consumer Report "best buy," it would be okay. It's better than okay. It's very good. No complaints.

Summary: I'm giving the StreetPilot i5 to my husband for Christmas. We haven't used it yet, so this is a very priminary review. First let me say that this thing is tiny. Whether this turns out to be a plus or a minus remains to be seen. I'll post more once we try it out.
