Strengths: Univeral formats, speed. No Lightscribe - who can afford those disks - or wait to produce them? - beside sending the burner to an early grave !
Weaknesses: No Mt. Rainer, adequate software.
Summary: 2006-07-08 09:50:03 GSA-4167B LG burner is a snap to install. The auto firmware updating is a nice feature and adds firmware updating safety so you will not have a fried burner. The 4167b is fast and writes DVDs acurately. Booktyping is supported for DVD+R and DVD+RW. Remember, media type and quality does make a difference, so do some research.. Does a great job on CDRs too. Would recommend this drive for it's universal formatting capabilities.

Have burned more than 100 disks - all DVD and CDR formats, except DVD-RAM and have not made any "coasters". This burner is very good. I must state here that this burner is the only DVD burner that I have ever owned, but it works flawlessly.

3 Star ReviewSo Far so Good, I think
Strengths: DVD RAM
Weaknesses: Speed?
Summary: I've only had the burner for a couple days now and this is my first DVD Burner so I'm still learning about the whole thing. So far I've only burned DVD-RAM disc's but it seems to do a good job. The drive will read disc's that I burn on my Samsung 120 DVD recorder. Unfortunately the formated disc from this unit Don't read in my Samsung. I probably need the proper codec to match things up. I also assume that DVD-R will be more compatible than DVD RAM is I have a 2.4ghz Athalon with a gig of PC-2700 DDR and a Seagate 7200 RPM ATA 100 HDD and it still takes the better part of 10 minutes to transfer 4gigs of data from this Burner to my HDD I'm updating LG Firmware now, hopefully the speed will come up some.
