Strengths: Kickin Bass, Crisp Highs, Cool Futuristic Look, Cradle totally protects the Ipod, Completely Portable (unlike the Bose). The IM7 Sounds awesome with any kind of music.
Weaknesses: The carrying handle is a little funky where its placed. No big deal though, it still is functional.
Summary: I looked at the Bose SoundDock and the JBL OnStage before buying the IM7. Everyone was raving about the Bose but I did a side by side sound test with both units at the Apple store and the IM7 had a bit more bass and the staging with the mids and highs sounded just as good as the Bose SoundDock.

Factor in the price ($50 less than the Bose) and the portability element and the Altec IM7 has the Bose SoundDock beat hands down.

Its a great deal for the money and if you register the warranty within 30 days of purchasing it Altec will offer you a 2 year weaanty.

3 Star ReviewSending mine back
Strengths: Compact, portable, etc. etc. Good bass, especially at higher volumes.
Weaknesses: Sound fidelity not good at lower volumes. No display of bass and treble settings.
Summary: The other reviewer is right: the machine fills a room with sound. At high volumes, it's impressive. But if you want a more intimate listening experience at low volume, the sound is fuzzy and muffled. Strings sound thin. I compared the sound to a friend playing mp3s from his computer through good speakers, and the difference was dramatic. Also, the remote control allows adjustment of bass and treble, but you can't tell how far from default settings you are. I'm sending mine back. Too expensive for what you get.

Strengths: Apprearence, ease of use, sound quality.
Weaknesses: none
Summary: Produces great sounds at all ranges. Subwoofer works to perfection given the size and price. Best value for the money. Even compared to Bose iPod, Altec Lansing beats it. I shopped this and compared sounds with all comparable products. This was the best.

Strengths: Outstanding Sound, easily fills a room with music. Charges your IPOD
Weaknesses: Remote is flimsy
Summary: I bounced back and forth between this and the Bose sound dock and had to choose the IM7. The sound is amazing! I can tote it from room to room easily and it will run on batteries as well. The other selling point is that they make a carrying case which means this puppy will be coming on the boat next season.

Strengths: Portable, adapts to any iPod that has a dock conector, looks unique, doubles as a speaker for satellite radio, sounds great, charges iPod, wireless remote and accessories included.
Weaknesses: Rather heavy, expensive, akward button controls, and fragile iPod cradle locking mechanism with too strong of spring.
Summary: First thing I noticed was that I had difficulty with the button controls on both the unit and the remote. Seems they have a sweet spot that you must press in order for them to work. Sound and cosmetically the system is great. After a while, due to a stiff spring and too weak of a plastic latching mechanism, the iPod cradle failed to stay shut. Customer service is aware of this defect and is replacing the units directly.

Strengths: Excellend sound and Cool design.
Weaknesses: A little bit heavy to carry around.
Summary: With the cradle that let this speaker can be used with any type of iPods, deep bass, remote control (volume, bass, and treble), vdo output, ipod recharges during playing the musics, 110-220V universal power adapter, this IM7 is highly recommened for anyone who is looking for a good iPod speaker system. Since I have used this speaker for a week, I am very pleased with it.

Strengths: Easy to set up and use within minutes. Remote control offers functionality without having to go to the actual unit.
Weaknesses: Not able to see a value for the bass and treble settings. Unit does not support a shuffle.
Summary: This unit is a great value for the money. It has exceeded my expectations and sounds great. I am very pleased with the sound the the volume. The cable to attach to an external unit is also a plus. After comparing the various units available I firmly believe this is the best one on the market for the money. A must buy.

Strengths: Deep powerful bass, clear highs, plenty of volume, portable.
Weaknesses: Weak remote control, no bass/treble controls on the main unit (remote-only).
Summary: This is a fantastic sounding speaker setup in a rather modestly sized package. The sound is clear and crisp with deep bass and crystal clear highs. It has plenty of room-filling volume, too. It's also easy to carry from room to room or take outside on the patio.

The remote is weak, with only a 10-15 foot range. I solved this problem by programming my TV remote to operate the various functions.

I tried running a portable DVD player through the AUX-in port and it certainly enhanced the small-screen experience.

Strengths: Great base and all around sound
Weaknesses: Doesn't come with iPod nano adapter-have to order it separately
Summary: My husband insisted that I needed a portable speaker for my iPod nano and decided to get me one for christmas. I wasn't sure I would be satisifed after looking at the various options until we found the inMotion Portable speaker system for iPod. I love it! I love the great base...just enough and not overdone. The overall sound is rich and full and reaches out in all directions. This speaker is also much more portable than others that I have seen. I am very pleased with all aspects of the speaker except that it didn't include the adapter necessary for my iiPod nano to fit in securely. It has to be ordered separately.

Strengths: Powerfull sound, rich bass, nice highs. Portable.
Weaknesses: Remote control limited. No more interaction than level and next song. Bass and treble controls without visual confirmation of selected level. No radio.
Summary: It's my first gadget for the iPod, and it's really worth the price. I've been searching a lot for a proper portable speaker system for my iPod, and this is really a solution for what I was looking for. Nice sound, powerfull (as many reviews said...), rich. And it's a tiny stereo for the swimming pool !!! It's compact, and the price rivals with Bose or Apple. I'm really happy with the purchase.
