Strengths: Price, picture, built in hd tuner, customer service
Weaknesses: Black levels, nondetachable speakers
Summary: Purchased in November from Beach Camera ( $300.00 rebate) after weeks of researching price and features. Unit was defective. Called Syntax customer service. They arranged to have to have unit picked up and sent a replacement as their warranty states.(one year in home repair or replace) Was very happy to have such service from a new, no name company in a timely fashion. Great picture from hi def cable and progressive scan dvd player with component cables. Easy to set up.

Strengths: PICTURE,PICTURE,PICTURE
Weaknesses: Have not found one
Summary: I have had this TV for about 1 week. Let me first say I am an ordinary consumer. Looking to spend my hard earned money wisely. I have no connections to any electronics company. I am a firefighter. So there is nothing in this for me other than trying to help anyone reading these reviews out. Ordered this from Beach Camera for $1122 delivered. Great Experience. I did lots of homework on LCD versus DLP and discovered that LCD has surpassed DLP. Read the reviews and go look at a local dealer. Just make sure you compare the HD feed and the Analog feed. Do a google search for 'LCD versus DLP' and you will get alot of independently compiled info to help you make your choice. Also purchased a HDMI cable for $22 at an online dealer( don't get ripped off and pay $100 and up!)Look for gold plateing and you will be fine. This set compares to or excels over most top of the line brands. I am very ,very happy with this puchase. Best price and best TV what more could you ask for. The picture has very black blacks, a 1600:1 contrast ratio, 8Ms response, plenty of inputs and connections. The only thing I read was that if you plan to use it for a computer monitor it is not good. Something about the size. Since I have no intentions of doing this I can only comment on its use as a television and it is great!!! I have not used the PIP function yet. The remote has a hidden area with extra hotkeys which is a nice feature - simply slide the lower flat portion of the remote down to uncover the keys. The infra red detector has a very narrow detection area - meaning you have to aim the remote pretty much dead on to have it work, this is the only slight weakness I have noticed. The built in speakers are fine but I will hook up a suround sound system ( now I have to research that!). Well hope this helps someone out there.

Strengths: Alot of Inputs and outputs, Two S-video, VGA,I dont have enough things to plug into all it has.
Weaknesses: Only one HDMI does not do Picture in Picture but I found out that all tv's are like that.
Summary: I have researched LCD tv's for awhile in both quality and price, and the Olevia LT37HVS had everything and more of what I was looking for. The picture quality is great having a built-in HDTV tuner is a plus. So many connection choices like HDMI, 2 S-Video and much more. I have two cable boxes, vcr,DVD with amplifier and I am able to hook them all up on this set. With some connections not used yet. The price is much lower than other TV brands ex. Sony Panasonic, etc. Also after 37'' Lcd's become Plasma's Which is something I didn't want so I recommend this set. A++ The salesman that assisted me was Friendly, Helpful, and fulfilled his promises to me. And since, I feel I should include him in my review. Strengths: Wide variety of inputs, good sound quality, excellent HD video.
Weaknesses: Remote control is not intuitive, only shows in 1366x768 for PC input.
Summary: I got this delivered from BeachCamera for $1477 before the $300 rebate. The HD picture quality is outstanding using just an antenna. DVD's look quite good and standard definition TV looks decent. Using the VGA input only displays in 1366x768 so it stretches the picture from my laptop, but the image is still extremely crisp. I am almost please with the contrast ratio and how "black" the black levels are. I am very pleased with this purchase due to its excellent value.

Strengths: + Price ($1199 AR) + Built-in ATSC HDTV tuner + Great picture quality on HDTV and DVDs
Weaknesses: - Can't manually tune HDTV OTA stations - So-so quality on SD
Summary: For a 37" LCD HDTV with a built-in ATSC tuner, this TV can't be beat. One of the little known secrets about HDTV is that it is FREE from your local over-the-air (OTA) TV station. All you need is an ATSC tuner to receive it. Though it has been REQUIRED for 37"+ HDTVs manufactured after 7/1/05, many stores are still selling HDTVs without a built-in ATSC tuner. But this Syntax Olevia LT37HVS has one BUILTIN and receives excellent HDTV OTA broadcasts from the local TV stations.

Picture quality of the HDTV OTA broadcasts is excellent when they are broadcasting HDTV programming. The quality varies a lot when broadcasting SD material, but this is the fault of the TV networks and not so much the fault of the TV. Watching DVDs with an old interlaced DVD player is surprisingly good.

My only beef is that you can't manually add TV stations to the list in the ATSC tuner, which was confirmed by calling Syntax customer support.

Strengths: dvds thru the hdmi port look spectacular, built in hdtv reciever
Weaknesses: despite automatic color controls,I seem to adjust the manual controls more frequently to obtain great picture, olevia logo glows bright blue and cannot be switched off.when tv is off
Summary: 2006-11-15 12:03:04 I am modifying this review to add that after One year of steady almost continual use as my primary computer monitor, and dvd movie player.I have not as yet had a single technical problem with the set. There may be better sets out there but I have been well pleased by my purchase and as the set gets even more attractively priced I thought those who may be considering this as a holiday purchase might benefit from a report as to sets quality of performance after 1year. I do not have cable but use the tv for its hdtv, dvd, and computer monitor capability. .I had dificulty obtaining the picture quality i wanted in dvd's till i bought an uplacing converting dvd player and connected it by way of the hdmi port, which resulted it an high quality experience. I bought an medium quality theater reciever w/ speakers to and the resulting upgrade is most pleasing. As for hdtv I am totally pleased though I admit that i have little to compare it to I live in a marginal reception area and have lived for years with grainy reception, until the arrival of this set.Now with the same antenna I bring in quality pictures from a number of local channels.the hdtv reciever on this set seems to work well.I think the number of port types out and in is a weakness in this set,but overall can be worked with or around.I hooked up my low end computer with its minimal video card and was shocked at the quality of the picture when the set is used as a monitor, true it is not perfect but it is very good indeed.Overall this is a quality product that is well/but economically designed a truly outstanding buy IMO. .I would buy this product again and am happy with my purchase.

Strengths: Picture Quality, Well written manual, great product support, Built in HD TUNER, great spec's, great value
Weaknesses: Remote does feel a bit cheap, though it works very well, and is easy to use.
Summary: Was a little cautious about such a large purchase over the internet, but the TV was exceptionally well packed, and arrived in perfect condition. Unquestionably the best value for the size and features available, and though I did find one locally to view the picture before I purchased it - it looks even better in my own home. The set-up is simple and the manual is easy to read and follow. Only question I had was which input to plug my off air HD antenna into, ( it's the DTV input ), and their customer service team responded within the day with the right answer. Looks, sounds and feels like quality. This TV is in a smaller TV room, and it has plenty of excellent sound.

3 Star ReviewGood TV for the price
Strengths: Price, picture is good. Wide variety of inputs.
Weaknesses: Like others, I have noticed a hum with the audio. I have it running through an amp and speakers and am not using the inbuilt audio - so that isn't an issue. It was a bit annoying.
Summary: I ordered my TV from Beach Camera December 31. There was a $300 rebate on the TV. I received my TV mid January and submitted the rebate to Syntax.

After several followups - all reporting they were swamped with rebates, etc. I got a response that I sent in my rebate after the time period. I don't believe I did, but didn't send it registered mail. Syntax wouldn't discuss it further - so I ended up paying $300 more than I thought. This would probably keep me from buying from Syntax/Beach Camera again. My lesson learned is to send in high dollar rebates registered/certified mail.

As for the TV itself, I am very happy. The blue glowing Olevia is annoying when the TV is turned off as the TV is in our bedroom. A piece of black electrical tape fixes this. The remote isn't that great, but it is functional. Picture is very good.

Strengths: Great Value and not a bad looking set. Picture is great on HD inputs.
Weaknesses: Will magnify the poor quality of poor inputs (basic cable in my case). 16:9 or Panoramic really distorts non HD inputs. The remote is pretty cheap but I use the cable box remote 98% of the time.
Summary: Spent some time dialing in the picture quality , factory preset was very "red". For the price you can't go wrong for a HD LCD. I bought it from Beach Camera and the packaging was super , shipment fast and the $300 rebate outstanding - $1247 delivered (net of rebate) for this set can't be beat!

Strengths: Bright Picture, Good Sound Quality
Weaknesses: Black is not black enough. Sound volume is not linear.
Summary: The picture quality is very good for general use. The contrast is not very good for dark pictures. Mostly because of the backlight of the LCD. The black is not pure black, especially when viewed at angle. Common problem for LCDs.

Sound quality is good, but the actual volume does not increase much when you increase the volume number from 75 to 100.

The resolution is not standard for Computers. If you want to use it as a (second) monitor, make sure you video card can support 1366x768. I'm feeding the VGA port with 1280x768 and the picture is stretched a little bit horizontally.

No DVI port. Need to purchase a seperate DVI to HDMI cable if you want to use the DVI port of you video cards.

Overall, a solid design. Definitely the best you can find in the

Strengths: Everything!
Weaknesses: ME!...For not buying the 42"
Summary: Everyone likes to complain about something...The blue OLEVIA light; Sound Quality; blah blah blah...Fact is the blue light is cool, the sound coming from the TV speakers is the best sound one could possibly wish for from a TV, Folks, it is a TV not a BOSE stereo system...Forget everything I am saying or what you have read, Just go to HH Greg or any dealer and look at the picture next to the so-called "top of the line" Sharp Aquas...I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE WRITING A CHECK; SWIPING YOUR DEBIT CARD OR SIMPLY SAYING "CHARGE PLEASE!"

**********WARNING***************

DO NOT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE(NOT REALLY A MISTAKE) BUY THE 42" IF YOU CAN, IF NOT THIS BABY WILL DO!

I HAD A SPINAL INJURY THAT HAS LEFT ME CONFINED TO A BED MOST OF THE TIME, SO TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS PUT SOME HOURS IN LOOKING AT PICTURE QUALITY FROM A DVD; HD CABLE BOX; HD ANT; AND MOST OF ALL, THE PC THROUGH THE VGA HOOK-UP! WOW, I AM EXACTLY 16FT FROM THE SCREEN AND I SURF THE NET AND DO ALL MY COMPUTING FROM THE BED NOW...I LOVE TECHNOLOGY IT HAS SAVED MY SANITY!!!!!!!!!

Strengths: Great picture, nice looking, easy to use remote and of course the PRICE!
Weaknesses: Can't figure out some of the simpler things like pip, half picture, adding a chanel etc. Will have to reread the booklet.
Summary: After doing extensive research (over 6 months worth) and after seeing this model in person at CompUSA, I purchased it from Buydig.com for $1477 on a Saturday. This was the complete price delivered. And might I add it was at my door on Thursday. With the $300 rebate my total price will be $1177, that is if and when it comes through.

Connecting was pretty simple and after it scanned my cable for stations I was all set up within minutes. I am having a few technical issues (which may be due to my ineptitude). I have yet to figure out the pip and watching two pictures in the half screen mode. Also adding a channel that for some reason did not get picked up in the channel scan. Other than that everything is good.

The picture on most stations is very nice. I do not have digital cable or a dish so these are only broadcast stations, but most are very clear. DVD movies are excellent! Shreck was like 3D. Also I have not made any changes to the picture, color, sound etc. all that seems good on the factory presets.

When I went to see this tv in person next to the big boys, sony, panasonic, samsung, the picture was without a doubt just as good. This was the clincher.

So after just a few weeks I am very happy I made this choice. One more thing, I don't know what all the issues I've read about on the remote, but it works fine, changes channels fast and I love the blue OLEVIA when the tv is off. Happy TV hunting, save yourself a bundle and get this one.

Strengths: THE PICTURE!!!!
Weaknesses: That damn logo that glows BLUE when the set is turned off.
Summary: I spent a considerable amount of time researching LCD's in the 40"-42" range for my bedroom and guest bedroom. I saw the LT37HVS in Micro Center for $899, out the door for a limited time. I wasn't blown away by the picture and the fact that it wasn't 40-42". A friend reminded me that in the store multiple TV's share the same signal, in this case DirecTV, so there will be some degrading of the signal. Since I wanted 2 sets, $899 looked like a deal I could not pass up so I took the plunge....

This TV is FANTASTIC!!!!! The picture on my HD cable is simply totally amazing!!! Yes the remote is cheesy but I use a universal remote. The only con I have is that the "OLEVIA" logo glows blue when the set is OFF but is disabled when the set is ON. It has proven to be a distraction for us at night, but a piece of black tape will solve that issue quickly. I am happy with my purchases and did get the 3yr extended in-home service warranty just in case. Hopefully I never have to use it.

Strengths: great HD pic - good input options, very good DVD pic Blacklight ajustable, blacklevel inhanced with Idea Technology
Weaknesses: bad pic when using a direct cable input (fairly weak analog signal) Remote is awful, TV menu structure could be better
Summary: I'm using component inputs for both cable and DVD; the pic for HD is great and DVD very good. My cable settop box (STB) is a SA8300HD and the non-HD pics are good from this box; however, the pic from a coax cable straight into the TV is bad (might be caused by a fairly weak signal). Of course this is not a problem for me since I view all my channels through the SA8300HD. The stretch modes do not work with the component inputs, hence I use the STB for that. Changing sources on the TV should be easier - probably fix that with a better remote such as the Harmony. Good set for the money.
