Strengths: Extremely Versatile. Easy to install. Compact design. Good user interface.
Weaknesses: Remote is unsatisfactory.
Summary: I love this remote/receiver. It does everything that it claims to do better than it claims it will. The remote works very well (batteries were included), the receiver picks up even weak signals (USB a/b cable included--which can run $15 on it's own), and software is very manageable, for beginners or advanced users.

The included remote is smaller than a pack of playing cards, and is loaded with pre-programmed 17 buttons (which you can re-program remarkably easy). However, as I found out the first day, 17 buttons isn't nearly enough. I use a universal remote, and upwards of 30 buttons on that, which was time-consuming to program, but I found it worthwhile. 17 buttons will do everything that you could reasonably need it to do. (I'm a college student with too much free time).

The remote/recevier comes pre-programmed for over twenty multimedia programs, and you can add as many more as you want. Also, you can teach the receiver any signal from any IR remote. So if you have an old TV controller, you can hook that up, or you can buy a universal remote, program it to a unit that you don't actually own (like a satellite receiver, second TV, cable box, etc.) and then operate your TV, VCR, computer from the same remote.

I am extremely satisfied with the remote, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for one.

Strengths: Inexpensive Easy to use.
Weaknesses: Could have better design aesthetics.
Summary: This remote is great for setting up a multimedia PC. Set up is very easy, and configuration is straightforward, with presets for many different applications pre-installed.

Only very minor quibbles. The remote is very small About 2.5x2.5 inches, with no easily discernible facing, so sometimes I'll be inadvertently pointing the remote at myself and wondering why it's not working. Then I realize it's aimed at my gut and not the infrared sensor.

Strengths: 1. Works for 20-30 feet 2. Can be customized for any program
Weaknesses: 1. Could have a better mapper program
Summary: I bought this remote so that I could watch movies in room on my laptop and don't need any mouse to fast forward, rewind, change volume or get to next chapter. It does all that with great ease. The mapper, which converts the button to various program functions, comes with many programs already stored. New programs can also be added.

I added Intervideo WinDVD. However, you will have to use the manual to do that. It can be a slightly difficult for some, for the first time, but it is not rocket science. It is easier if you have the program running that you want to add the program. It is not that great if you want to use it as a mouse, butthen it is not supposed to be a mouse.

Strengths: Long range, very easy to customize, compact design, does exactly what it says and then some!
Weaknesses: Provided usb cable a bit too short, should have several program buttons that can do advanced operations without having to eliminate the others to do those actions.
Summary: I thought to myself one day, I could really use a wireless keyboard to be able to sit on the couch and enjoy watching my video on the computer. That's when I heard about the Keyspan Digital Media Remote Control and decided to read more.

With a nice price and a description that fit exactly what I was looking for, I made the move and bought it. So here I am, only a few days after setting it up and I am OVERJOYED! This thing seriously rules...

Why? Well, first off it lets me control anything and everything running on my computer with a compact sized (imagine 4 credit cards stacked on top of one another, well it's even smaller that that). Not only does the software come preloaded with a slew of remote control settings for programs I normally use (Winamp, Windows Media Player, Realplayer) but allows me to load any program in an easy to use fashion. On top of that, I can use the interface to easily customize remote operations, but program specific and globally! I loaded my favorite video player Crystal and customized it to do everything I needed it to.

One of the great things about this thing is it switches between programs with the touch of a button (yep, ALT-TAB is already a global key) in addition to controlling my mouse. Now, the mouse movement is hard since it doesn't have a scroll, but for those situations where you want it to move the cursor and right click/left click for you...you can!

This thing has become one of my favorite additions to my super computer and will no doubt make my life a lot easier. Go buy this thing now, it's the cheapest one out there and will do everything you need it to do.

Strengths: small and
Weaknesses: no laser pointer and uses a usb cable to connect to machine
Summary: I think this unit is definately worth buying. throw in a laser pointer and add $10 an its the ants pants of multimedia remotes. Nonetheless still worth the money.

Strengths: Use USB. Remote has a far range. Nice remote.
Weaknesses: Receiver too big. Remote should have more functions. USB cable too short.
Summary: This is a great product, by the looks of it but due to lack of software support, it is pretty crappy as you need to do alot of tweaking just to make it work. My Logitech keyboard have no problems with the multimedia functions.

3 Star ReviewDigital Remote Control
Strengths: Small, lightweight. Not only controls presentations, but sound as well.
Weaknesses: No laser. There is software that has to be installed.
Summary: This remote is small and light weight. I purchased this remote for my classroom, to be used during my lectures when utilizing powerpoint. It not only can be used for this, but adjusting sound as well, which is neat. I also ordered the the other keyspan remote - Model PR-US2, I personally would recommend the US2 over this one - it is easier to hold and there is no software to install. The buttons are not confusing. I am a little confused on which buttons go with what with the media remote - I still need to play with it, I guess. I will probably have my students use the media remote with their presentations, and I will use the US2 for my lectures/presenations.

Strengths: Easy to set up and use. CD contains PC and Mac drivers.
Weaknesses: None worth mentioning.
Summary: I am a Mac user who loves to rock the itunes. I had been looking for a way to control itunes remotely. I saw the Keyspan on sale for $20 so I jumped on it. It is easy to set up and the included CD has any driver support you might need. It uses arrows to move the cursor and has CD type remote buttons that are programable. The base also supports some JVC remotes.

I wish the arrows responded to holding them down in addition to touch.

Overall this is an inexpensive solution for a multimedia remote for a computer.
