Strengths: Easy to use controls, Full manual mode is easy to navigate
Weaknesses: No manual focus, but the focus works quickly and accurately
Summary: I have owned several digital camera's, and so far the kodak's have been the preferred ones. Even my old DC215. Never gave me trouble and I could always rely on it when others would not function. This new 6490 is something else! Battery life is incredible. I can shoot all day on one battery even viewing the pics and selecting my preferences for marking. Zoom works great, lens is very clear, focus actually works (unlike my minolta dimage's) I found a second battery for $29.00 but have not had to change because of the battery going down. I love this camera! I Highly recommend this camera.

Strengths: 10X Optical zoom, Good lense, Compact size for 10X, Multi-Mode, large 2.2 inch display on back, Ease of program settings Very Good picture quality.
Weaknesses: Must use docking station to charge, Have to buy seperate charger to travel lightly. Hard to find case for it.
Summary: This is my 5th digital and my second DX6490. I returned the first one. After much research in the limited 10X compact digital camera field I bought the DX6490 when it first came out but was dispointed to find that I had to use the docking station to recharge the battery. I tried to find the optional charger but was unsuccessful. As I do a lot of traveling one of the strong points was the compactness for a 10X camera but this strength was negated by the necessity of carrying around the charger. But I was hooked on the pictures and the 10X lense, wow! After traveling a month I could still not decide on an alternative and finally found a charger. I'm glad I waited. I have been very pleased and am constantly amazed at the way the program mode seems to fall into place for me and the quality of the pictures. I use a 256meg card and find that the battery last quite a long time. There are only a couple of things that I would change about the camera itself but wish that companies would do more planning when releasing products. For instance the charger and carrying case almost dissuaded me from purchasing an otherwise excellent product.

Strengths: Very nice 10X optical zoom with Schneider lens. A lot of camera packed into a relatively compact unit. Also the Li-ion battery lasts quite a long time even when using built in flash.
Weaknesses: The $450+ price should include a camera case. One that fits is a little hard to find.
Summary: This is my first digital camera and it has a bit of a learning curve to get great photos. Once you have mastered it takes beautiful pictures comparable to my old 35mm SLR. The 10X optical zoom works very well. Also in low light this camera takes some amazing pictures if it is setup correctly. It comes with the Easy Share docking station and that makes charging and transferring pictures to computer very easy.

Strengths: Optical Zoom @ 10 X 4.0 megapixels
Weaknesses: Not a pocket camera
Summary: Earlier this year I bought a Kodak LS 443. It's a great little camera. Prints from OFOTO uploaded at its 4.0 mega pixels come back looking beautiful. I took a picture of a rose growing in my father in-law’s rose garden this summer, uploaded it to OFOTO, and sent it to him in our Christmas card this year. His wife liked it so much, she framed it and hung it on the dining room wall! The 3-D quality of the photo was amazing. This Christmas I bought my 20-year-old son a Kodak DX6490 Digital Camera. We looked at a lot of models and brands, but NONE had the combination of a 10X optical zoom along with 4 megapixels. Everyone is so “focused” on the megapixels specification, they ignore the optical zoom specification. Most of the current "best buys" are only 2, 3 or 4 optical zoom. You can read a newspaper from across the room with the DX 6490, to say nothing about photographing scenery, landscape, people, sporting events, or the kids playing soccer. Anyway, my son, who used the LS 443 all summer, fell in love with all the advanced features of the DX 6490. I didn't get to use it until the day before he went back to college! Another seldom-used feature, not available on inexpensive models, is the video out (AV) connection. On good cameras, you can attach the camera to the TV and show a slide show in your living room. The processor in the DX 6490 is faster than the one in the LS 443, so there is no lag time for the photo to be in focus. I have shown this feature to many that have digital cameras, and almost no one knew about it or had used it before.

Another major drawback to many digital cameras is the battery. Both the Kodak LS 443 and the Kodak DX 6490 use rechargeable Li-ion batteries. These seem to last forever, and when they do go, you just stick the camera on the camera dock to recharge it.

Getting pictures from the camera to the computer is also a hassle with some cameras. Transfer of pictures with the Easy Share camera dock is accomplished with a push of a button on the dock. I have not used the printer dock, but saw it demonstrated at the LPGA last summer. It sure beats the results I have seen from any color printer. I highly recommend the DX 6490.

Strengths: The Camera takes excellent pictures. The camera is very east to use and I love the high quality, large dislay screen on the camera. For a 10x digital zoom, the camera is small.
Weaknesses: Shakes a lot on full zoom - results in fuzzy pic's. The software is easy to use, but does not remove red eye very well (camera is red eye prone) you will need better edit software. Hard to find case.
Summary: The camera is very well designed. It is the easiest to use camera on the market. The 10x optical zoom is outstnding. Pictures are sharp and crisp. Camera also takes great close up pictures. All controls are logically organized. The camera is a great value. Not only do you get a great camera, you also get a docking station that allows the camera to upload pic's at a push of a button and you get re-usable batteries and a batter charger (in teh docking station.) At Circut City, I purchased a 256mb sd card for $58 because everyone who purchases this camera will need the extra memory. The card can hold up to 196 pic's at the hightest quality mode. Unlike some more expensive camera's, the camera a microphone and speaker (for playback mode) to support the movie mode. In a word, the camers is outstanding. I spent months looking at other camera's and reading reviews. I selected the camera because it's easy to use, it takes high quality pictures, has an outstanding display panel, unmatched 10x optical zoom, has good looks (is not that bulky) and is a great value included in the batteries and docking station. I am a first time digital camera user and loce this camera. Kodak did an outstnding job hen they created this "best in class" camer.

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, Great lens, All the featers of a SLR.
Weaknesses: Only one. When in the burst mode you loose the view finder.
Summary: I have read all the reviews on this product. They are all true except for the negitive ones. People don't read the instructions. For those who say it can't focus in low light, it will focus in the dark, that is a fuction of infra red. If you push the shutter release 1/2 way down it brackets what it is focusing on and if that is not the subject try again. It is amazing. The built in flash on ANY camras is only good for 6-8 feet. On Digtital when you put it in the computer you can enhance greatly. This unit you can hook up a off camra flash and go wild IF you plan to take a lot of night work. I use the flash in the day time all the time as FILL-IN to eliminat shadows on the subjects. It is dificult to eliminate red eye when the flash is ON THE CAMARA so get a program that lets you do it on the computer. This camras is truly incredable, I did not relize how good it was till I started shooting with it. I had two digitals (not including the toys such as the pens and slim camras with no flash) before but this is light years ahead. I put the largest media card in I could find and on the second highest resilution I can print 8X10 of a dinner party of eight and blow up a face from dinner with out a problem. Carring the charging deck in my camra bag is a small price to pay for the use of this gem. Having the ability to shoot with shutter or apature priority is a great advantage. I had to take a shot with strong back light thru an window and used the night capablities and with flash and got a great picture. THIS IS A GREAT CAMRA. I strongly recomend it. Just read the Instructions!

Strengths: User friendly, Clear / sharp Pics, Batteries last a long time between charges. Love the 10x optical Zoom. A fun camera.
Weaknesses: Time delay between each picture taken.
Summary: Don't buy a camera unless it has 10x optical zoom, you wish you did. I take this camera everywhere I go. Makes taking pics Fun. I beleive you would totally enjoy this camera, I have.

Strengths: ZOOM, ZOOM & ZOOM
Weaknesses: Wish you could use the flash when in movie mode
Summary: I love this camera. The zoom is awesome. I took photos on a recent rockclimbing trip, and got great shots ~ close up and far away. Not only are the features great, but the easyshare option is great too. I showed my husband a slideshow of our climbing trip within five minutes of getting home. The movie feature is a blast. Quality is good, and having the option of bringing only one camera with me instead of two separate - one still and one movie is awesome!

Strengths: Oustanding zoom; excellent overall picture quality in all conditions; compact, lightweight design; marvelously large LCD screen; Very easy to use, including manual settings; very strong battery life
Weaknesses: Printed EasyShare software manual not included - Electronic version only. No others to mention
Summary: I am completely satisfied with the DX6490. It is simply the best digital camera I have used to date, and I have tested quite a few of the competitors. No other camera can match the DX6490's 10x optical zoom, compact size and feature set for anywhere near this price. I could not be happier with my purchase, and have taken over 400 photos and movies since getting it about a month ago. Kodak definitely has a winner on their hands with this camera, and I can honestly say I am a convert. Highly recommended.

Strengths: 10x optical zoom, Picture Quality, Ease of Use, Software Enhancements
Weaknesses: For the price it really should have come with a case and a Cigarette Charger!! Although I had plenty of battery for the day and I took 147 shots and 5 videos and reviewed most of it as I went.
Summary: Wonderful Camera!!! I am very pleased. This is my 1st Digital (aside from the ones I played with at work). I have only had point and shoot. I just took it out of the box and started using it. (the battery was charged??) I didn't even read the directions. It is very user friendly. I got some really great shots at a rodeo in a covered arena (Very hard venue to take shots. I have a lot of really poor pictures taken there previously) Even the ones that were dark due to poor lighting inside and bright sun coming in from all around the cover were able to be fixed with the software. And I would be willing to bet that once I read the directions and use the camera properly I won't even have to fix them with the software. I took real close-ups of horses eyes and Action shots of bull ride and bronc rides. Some of the action I missed but I understand there is a setting for multiple fast shots. Quality of pics was fabulous. I can't wait to take more pictures. I too read the reviews in my research for a camera and I agree all the good ones are acurate. I ordered the camera online (little concerned about that but) also ordered extra memory and x-tend warranty and still saved $70 over the store price. Camera came quick and no problems. This is a Great Service from PCWorld.

Strengths: PRICE. Good image quality. PRICE.10x Zoom. PRICE.Ability to "fine tune" using manual controls. PRICE. DID NOT install EasyShare software. WindowsXP recognizes it without problems. VERY EASY TO USE!
Weaknesses: Slow writing to SD card (but tolerable for the price). Sometimes has trouble with AUTOFOCUS INDOORS with various lighting (incandesent and flouresent (price makes up for it).
Summary: I was in the market for a digital camera and was REALLY wanting the most bang for the buck. I was willing to spend upwards of $1000 USD, but when it came crunch time to actually spend the money and after much research on various cameras with various resolutions, this Kodak won out. Its Price, its image quality, and its ease of use won out over a Digital SLR for the time being. however, i still will get my Digital SLR...one day! ;)

Strengths: 10X Zoom, Very Easy to use menus and software
Weaknesses: Easyshare software does not work with my DVD/CD Burner
Summary: Great Camera, battery lasts a long time. A little hard to get focused in low light/indoors but takes great pics if you take a little time. I need more time to get familiar with the Camera and I'm sure it will be easier to use indoors. Would be nice if they supplied a case. I bought mine refurbished for $299 and can't complain.

Strengths: fantastic 10x zoom, SLR - like, huge 2.2 LCD, effective Electric viewfinder
Weaknesses: no manual focus and aggresive jpeg compression
Summary: Love the camera!!! It's easy to download and e-mail photographs to family and friends... just put it on the dock and press the transfer button and wallah! It's SLR - like features give you a free-hand to get creative with your pictures, and yet still gives you the option to go point and shoot when you feel like it!!! It's the best!!! I also enjoyed the flash-- it was great in our livingroom shots--- it illuminated the subjects enough. Too bad that some people decided not to keep this beautiful camera.

Strengths: Incredible zoom. Schneider lens. Almost a professional camera. Battery lasts a long time. Too many to mention.
Weaknesses: Choice of compression. Preferably also raw mode.
Summary: I recently purchased a DX6490 after having had a DC4800. The first thing which caught my eye was the look of it. Typical of a professional SLR lookalike. Then came the most important thing of all. The lens. All controls are easy to reach. The choice of modes are unreal. It does however lack the advertised ( somewhere here on the mainpage), macro mode. A lens thread would not hurt at all. But I can live without it. The LCD is bigger than my handheld TV (Casio). A big plus. Also the electronic viewfinder. Nothing beats a "through-the-lens" viewing. It actually would assist in macro-mode if there were one. Apart from that, I would say that in its class and price it must be the best camera in the world at the moment. Maybe Kodak can/will upgrade the firmware to better the compression. Or at least give the user the choice.

Out of 10, I give it 9.9 minimum.

Strengths: Zoom, ease of use, great pictures in odd lighting conditions. This is my 3rd digital camera, and by far the easiest and best. I took over 180 pictures on one charge!
Weaknesses: Nothing significant
Summary: I would highly recommend this camera to anyone who wants good pictures, with the ability to zoom in on the subject. With all Digital pictures, it's not great taking action shots, but it's better than most I've used. The battery life is incredible, the viewscreen is HUGE and very clear. I haven't used the video option much, but you shouldn't base a digital camera on it's video capabilities.
