3 Star ReviewDream on
Strengths: Design concept, Metal homocentric polished diagram (the circle thing), Great kickstand
Weaknesses: Low-quality construction, difficult to open, internal cables too long, ridiculous pricing
Summary: I bought this product because I simply wanted the best looking external hard drive enclosure ever, and I was disappointed.

I used to own a Hammer 200GB external hard drive, which is a much better drive. Anyway, I hooked up a 200GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 to the Max4 to create a similar replacement.

The external enclosure itself is no match for the pictures provided by Thermaltake. The drive is falsely advertise to have a black mirror finish, but is made out of cheap plastic that is easily stained by oil from you fingertips. There is nothing special about the front of the drive except the blue LED, because it is made of a cheap mirror that resembles a childhood-toy play mirror. On the back of the drive, there is an unnecessar sticker that says: "Made in China," that I took off after I got the drive.

It took me hours just to open the drive, because Thermaltake decided to provide tiny screws made of poor, brittle, soft metal that becomes nearly impossible to open because the philips head crumbles when you use a screwdriver. They should both use larger screws and better metal.

What Thermaltake calls the "metal homocentric polished diagram" is another story, however. Each circle and groove is cut with laser-like precision, and has a beautiful pearl shine on the silver parts. You might as well buy the drive just so that you can cut that side of the box out and keep that homocentric diagram. The kickstand is also well-designed.

Might I add, only if one had extra money to spend, because the low-quality construction of the drive justifies not only 1/10 of the cost and is $10 overpriced compared to other competitors. And the drive itself offers no special performance features and no sound-isolation. Maybe if it costed much less, it would deserve a higher rating.
