Strengths: Nice bright picture. Space saver. Great value to price. Three year warranty.
Weaknesses: Could have a bit sharper image, but for the price, it's great.
Summary: I bought mine at TigerDirect also with a $50.00 rebate that I still have not received as they have lost the info and there is only one UPC code on the box, but still without the rebate I'm satisfied. I'd buy another.

Strengths: cheap,bright,crisp pictures
Weaknesses: 25ms response time, a bit slow compared to 16ms.
Summary: overall it's a quality monitor that under $200. plus the brand BenQ gives you assurance, be careful with other no-name brands that would bring you trouble.
Enjoy using my monitor now!

Strengths: Bright, crisp lines, decent viewing angles @ price
Weaknesses: range of motion, again... could still have sharper colors but no real complaints for a good monitor
Summary: 2005-08-31 22:00:54 after many years of using laptops and CRTs, I've felt it was time to move onto an LCD... but wasn't willing to spend too much money on one. there was a $50 rebate from TigerDirect, but their organization and service is not that great.
the contrast and lines are very crisp, and the black trim is not as wide as some LCD monitors and it doesn't come out too far as to not taking up as much space.
however, I wish that it would tilt further down (but it could also be the angle from which I'm viewing...

Strengths: Thin bezel design, easy controls, bright display
Weaknesses: As with all LCD displays, you may get dead pixels
Summary: I shopped around for a low-cost 17" LCD monitor with good reviews. The BenQ FP731 has received good marks from PC Magazine and other review sites. You need to be careful buying at the entry-level price range...there are many "no-name" brands selling for $200 or less and their performance may disappoint. The FP731 was reasonably priced, had a good rebate, and so I ordered online.
First, I'm very happy with the performance of the monitor. It's as good as any I've seen and it's solidly built. BenQ also has a three year warranty with a 48-hour replacement policy in the first year should anything go wrong.
However, buying any LCD monitor may leave you stuck with the luck of the draw. I had read quite a bit about the "dead pixel" problems with LCD panels. Basically, all LCD panel manufacturers accept a certain number of malfunctioning pixels on each screen that leaves the factory. Some screens may have none; others may have one or more. On a 17" screen with 1280x1024 resolution, there are nearly 4 million (!) individual transistors (subpixels) that make up the display area. What's the chance that one or more of these pixels won't work after the panel has been built? Well, because it happens on a regular basis (I've read that 40% or more of LCD monitors built in 2004 will ship with some defective pixels), all manufacturers accept some non-working pixels as "normal". Some have better policies than others, but they all generally follow the same industry standard. What this means is, whether you're buying Sony, Samsung, or BenQ, you may get a panel with one or more defective pixels. The location of these pixels is totally random. Manufacturers and retailers will generally NOT exchange your panel if the dead pixel count is within "normal" limits.
In the case of my FP731, I've got one subpixel that is illuminated red all of the time. However, it's located down in the lower left corner of the screen where it's barely visible (subpixels are about the size of a pin prick). If it was in the middle of the screen, I would not be happy (I consider my one pixel in the lower corner to be the best scenario). The bright side is, pixels don't continue to go bad once the panel is built and so there should be no further degradation after purchase.
The bottom line: If the manufacturers had to throw away every panel that had one or more bad pixels, my $280 FP731 would probably cost three times as much (in which case I wouldn't own one). This is the price of a maturing technology and it is a reality with any LCD panel you buy. If you purchase any LCD monitor and get dead pixels, you can try to return it for another if the vendor allows. However, this can be a fool's delight, because the next panel you get may have dead pixels, as well. Work with a vendor who'll let you return the panel and hopefully things will work out. Or perhaps your very first panel will be perfect out-of-the-box...it's the luck of the draw!

Strengths: Cheap
Weaknesses: Viewing angle.
Summary: Got my monitor a couple days ago, and I love it. It's super sharp, and clean. The colors are bright, and very clear. Even in some of my most graphic intensive games the picture quality is great.
The only thing I see as a small is is the viewing angle is very narror, but I am using it for home, and don't expect tons of people leaning over my shoulder.

Strengths: Bright, crisp picture, and low, low price
Weaknesses: Native resolution is a bit too high rendering most text hard to read. Changing to a lower resolution leaves the user wanting the crispness of the higher native resolution.
Summary: I purchased this LCD monitor last month from Tiger Direct for $299.00 with a $50.00 manufacturer's rebate (total paid minus shipping and handling was $249,99 !). This was an awesome price for this high quality of a monitor. For the price it is an awesome deal. The picture is light and bright with colors that are crisp and well saturated. This LCD is excellent for photo and video editing.

Strengths: Low cost. Above average display for the money $379.99
Weaknesses: Was hoping to get the rebate offered but did not notice it was merchant restricted to only tiger direct.
Summary: My first flat panel LCD. A bit blocky on some screens but it is adequate. What I expected it to be and I got what I paid for. If you want high quality 17" you have to pay more then 379.99. I am concerned about the warrenty but so far everything seems to be working good.

Strengths: Great design. It has a bright display, nice contrast ratio, and crisp color. Good response rate.
Weaknesses: None
Summary: 2005-05-25 16:10:18 After using CRT’s for many years, this is a great LCD. I spent many months shopping around for a good quality product at a reasonable price. I like the design and its performance. Although I am not into speed, I think it has a good response time. No dead pixels and a 3 year warranty. I am please with this LCD. If I had to get another monitor, it would be Benq. For the price and quality, this one is well worth it.
