Strengths: Good battery life; good camera
Weaknesses: Inadequate miniSD support; expensive proprietary PC sync cable.
Summary: 2007-03-25 17:43:19 The phone is nice and was an upgrade from a previous Audiovox model. The webconnect feature works fine, but I only use it for customer support... not for the pay-per-use features.
The camera feature produces good quality pictures.
other features include: a calculator, schedule, calendar, alarm, stop watch and voice memo & voice dial.
The bad things are:
1. It will not read larger than a 256 mb miniSD card;
2. To set the ringer to silent and only vibrate requires
a multi-step process. My old phone only required to hold down the * key for a couple of seconds to switch between the modes.
3. To transfer pictures that one has taken on the phone, one requires a miniSD card or a $50 proprietary sync cable from the manufacturer (I found one on ebay for $13).
I'm giving it four stars because I like the phone overall and I knowingly took the risk that the phone would not accept the more recent larger miniSD capacities.
Note: The Audiovox cell phones have recently been transferred from Audiovox to UTStarcom and the CDM8940 has been replaced with the CDM8945 which uses the microSD 512mb flash card.
7/11/06: I've recently found out that there is a one-button means of adjusting the ringer/vibrate function using one of the side buttons.
3/25/07:
It seems that all of the reviews have been deleted or misfiled, but my PG account still has the information stored, so I'll update and perhaps it will post to the product review page. In any case, I was never able to get a memory card to work with the phone and there was no support available from either Verizon or Audiovox/UTStarcom. If that function worked, I'd give the phone 5 stars.
