Mixed feelings about our new Whirlpool mega-fridge
Strengths: In-door filtered water & ice-maker; filter location; measure-fill; rotating faucet; spacious freezer; slide-out freezer baskets & fold-down door baskets; digital controls; quiet; sateen finish
Weaknesses: Less usable space b/c of spill-proof shelves; crushed ice sprays out; doesn't come w/egg tray; handles too close together, pinches fingers; fridge bins take up too much space, not enough shelves
Summary: 2007-06-25 19:34:31 This fridge/freezer has some really nice features and some that our old, cheap, 21.5 cu.ft. Magic Chef did better. The lack of extra fridge space was disappointing, and we've all gotten our fingers pinched between the handles. There's a big gap between where each shelf ends and the back of the fridge begins, probably for air flow, but that space isn't usable, and things often topple over and occasionally fall through. But we love the in-door water/ice, the filter should be easy to change when it's time, and the sateen finish is a must-have. (BTW, our salesperson said the filter is on a timer, so it may tell you to change it when it doesn't need it, or you may need to change it long before the indicator light comes on.) All my other stainless steel appliances show every fingerprint; this one hides them much better. And the higher lip at the top hides the dust. This is definitely a low-maintenance appliance, and for the money ($1700+ at Custom Distributors), I would probably buy it again.
