Don't Waste the Cash!
Strengths: Stylist design; Roomy with lots of bells and whistles
Weaknesses: Poor Quality Construction; Unreliability
Summary: In March 2007, we splurged on this gorgeous frig after some dissatisfaction with our 15-year-old Amana, which was basically falling apart and had begun showing signs of rust only four or five years after we bought it. The Jenn-Air looks great in our kitchen, is roomy, seemed well built, etc. But this week, it stopped working. (Problem diagnosed: failed seals which allowed all the freon to leak out!) Jenn-Air's customer service department refused to even speak with me because the frig is six weeks past the manufacturer's warranty. Their attitude: "Too bad; but we can't help you!" Thankfully, we had purchased an extended warranty through the retail store (Maytag), but working with them was a nightmare. They took 48 hours to send a repair technician who wasn't even authorized to work on our appliance. Bottom line: My husband lost an entire morning and I lost two full days at work, not to mention hundreds of dollars of food. (Maytag only reimburses $250 maximum on content loss.) Advice: Don't buy Jenn-Air until you do more research to see if our case is an unusual one!!
