Strengths: Non stick surface works, doesn't spit water like our previous Aroma
Weaknesses: Quality control
Summary: I purchased this from drugstore to replace an aging (but still working) Aroma cooker that is like 7yrs old and it has been working great, well, at least after we got a faulty one replaced. The first one worked flawlessly on the first day but wouldn't turn on from the next day so we got a replacement and it has been working fine since then. When compared to the older Aroma model:
- the non-stick surface is better.
- the aroma used to spray out a lot of water along with the steam through the hole on the lid. We had to cover the hole with a perforated paper glass to avoid making the surroundings messy and sticky. So far the Hamilton Beach doesn't seem to have this problem, though you may have to lift up the lid once just about when the liquids start bubbling inside. It would be nice if it didn't require even this much attention (which is why a star is taken out).
There might be a better model out there, but for the price I paid, I am very happy with this. Note that we only cooked white rice in it so far, not sure how it will perform with other varieties.
