Strengths: For having 1-way satellite speakers and a passive sub, the sound sure is great. Picture on my samsung HDTV is awesome with HDMI & is a big improvement from s-video. LOW COST compared to competition.
Weaknesses: HDMI output will not work with RCA input from VCR - need 2nd cable to TV. Can't exchange discs while 1 is playing. Have to use crappy supplied cables. Fan noise from reciever.
Summary: I do really like this unit and am glas I paid less than half of what I would have for a similar Sony. The sound and picture rock, especially for a passive sub, 1-way satellite speakers, and crappy cables that have special plugs for plugging into the reciever. I just got the HDMI cable, and it does make a huge difference in video quality. Fan noise is only noticable at low volumes and if your reciever is out in the open. The remote has twice as many buttons as it needs to, but it is nice that I can turn down the subwoofer volume for the people living on either side of me. No good cables come with the unit, but the cost is so low that dropping another $50 online for one is not out of the question. Setup was a breeze and I'm glad I didn't drop the extra $100 to get the P50 with the 2-way satellites, as they sounded no different. Don't be fooled by the passive sub, as it actually moves quote a bit of air, doesn't bottom out, and has a good sound quality.
For the money, this is the best thing out there. However, it is not the best thing out there, but I don't think that you or I want to drop $10K or more on something that would make George Lucas cry.
