Strengths: For having 1-way satellite speakers and a passive sub, the sound sure is great. Picture on my samsung HDTV is awesome with HDMI & is a big improvement from s-video. LOW COST compared to competition.
Weaknesses: HDMI output will not work with RCA input from VCR - need 2nd cable to TV. Can't exchange discs while 1 is playing. Have to use crappy supplied cables. Fan noise from reciever.
Summary: I do really like this unit and am glas I paid less than half of what I would have for a similar Sony. The sound and picture rock, especially for a passive sub, 1-way satellite speakers, and crappy cables that have special plugs for plugging into the reciever. I just got the HDMI cable, and it does make a huge difference in video quality. Fan noise is only noticable at low volumes and if your reciever is out in the open. The remote has twice as many buttons as it needs to, but it is nice that I can turn down the subwoofer volume for the people living on either side of me. No good cables come with the unit, but the cost is so low that dropping another $50 online for one is not out of the question. Setup was a breeze and I'm glad I didn't drop the extra $100 to get the P50 with the 2-way satellites, as they sounded no different. Don't be fooled by the passive sub, as it actually moves quote a bit of air, doesn't bottom out, and has a good sound quality.

For the money, this is the best thing out there. However, it is not the best thing out there, but I don't think that you or I want to drop $10K or more on something that would make George Lucas cry.

Strengths: HDMI to HDMI Great sound at 800 WATTS
Weaknesses: none
Summary: 2006-03-21 17:37:24 The sound is really clear from the small size speakers

and the powerful subwoofer. 800 total Watts of power.

The unit is very clean looking and goes well with our new stand and Plasma TV.

With the HDMI connection, the picture to our new Samsung Plasma is brilliant.

We are very pleased with this purchase and are going to enjoy many hours of entertainment.

2 Star ReviewDisappointed
Strengths: Good sound, great presentation, small dvd/receiver
Weaknesses: Terrible upconverting, no cables included
Summary: I purchased this dvd home theater for my 42 inches hd plasma. Couldnt i be more disappointed. The sound is very good (and powerful) however the upconversion looks terrible. A green vertical line shows up almost all the time on the right side of the screen, and the screen keeps adjusting (disadjusing ?) itself to fit the screen. I am going to return it. If anyone knows of a good option for a good upconverting dvd & good sound home theater please (please!!!) post it here!

I appreciate your help! :)

Strengths: hdmi in and out, up conversion dvd, good sound.
Weaknesses: can not use tv's audio speakers when connected thru hdmi.
Summary: I was unsure of this system after research on the web. I found mixed reviews on this unit but I am happy to say that for my situation it worked out perfect. I am using a direct tv h-10 hd sat receiver and ran the hdmi out to the hdmi in on the ht-hdp40. Then ran hdmi out to the hdmi in on a 2006 model hiatchi 42" plasma hd monitor. This works like a dream. The picture quality is great and I did not have to purchase a $200 hdmi switch unit. Sound is real good also for the money. Including the speaker stands (2 pair) and a ir to rf converter for the remote (my system componets are set-up in a closet out of sight) I only have about $475.00 invested in all and it looks and sounds close enough to my other bose system in the basement that I feel like a fool for spending the cash that I did for it. If you are looking for a great system that won't bust the bank, go for this one.
