Strengths: Good picture, great amount of features, TV Guide, PIP
Weaknesses: No sound switching on PIP, no swivel base
Summary: 2005-10-11 16:23:59 Picture quality is great although close up you can see some blockiness. I have to compare with my brother's Sony Bravia XBR to see if I notice just as much. Quality is still great from far away. We sit about 10 feet away from the TV.

It has a bevy of features. The PIP function is great. You can do Picture in Picture, Picture outside picture, which is just two screens next to each other side by side in 4x3 size. They have a Picture (Main) and 3 channels(Sub). The 3 channels would occupy the right side switching between your cable input but it doesn't show moving pictures for the 3, it would switch between each channel every few seconds freezing on the ones that's not selected and moving on the one that is. You can't switch sounds between PIP and you'd have to do a swap to get the sound. Sound is only for the Main input. Also you can only switch between Cable, ANT input and the composite Video(probably S-video) but not Component. If I have my PS2 on component, I can't swap pictures between my Game(Component) and TV.

It has about 5 different video settings. I normally keep it on the brightest which is custom where my brightness and jacked all the way up.

I can't comment on sound since it sounds pretty standard. My little brother says it sounds muffled but it could be cause the TV is farther back than our old 27" TV. Probably cause of the LCD's smaller occupying back space :)

Haven't tested the PC input yet.

The buttons on the TV are hidden for maximum style. You can't see the lettering at all from where we sit and you have to look less than 1 feet away and at an angle to read the letters. I guess they really want to hide the buttons. It's just for aesthetic purposes and I don't mind it cause I like the sleek look.

Analog cable looks alright but I'm not complaining. HDTV picture quality looks great as always though I have to say if I don't set on the brightness all the way the colors doesn't look as vibrant.

I love the channel label feature. Instead of your usual Text like MSNBC, TNT, TBS and so forth, they have pre-stored network logos for nearly every major network you can have. There's about 30 or more different network logos from ESPN to ABC to PBS everything. It's just a little feature but I like it very much.

Overall I'm very satified with the TV. The picture is satifactory but the features sets it apart.

Update, the TVGuide feature just took a few days for it to propagate so it's now working fantastically.

Strengths: Built-in HD tuner, XD Engine upconverting, memory card reader, PIP/POP/split-screen options
Weaknesses: remote design, wire management a little tight
Summary: I work at an electronics store so I get to compare all the LCDs every day, and this LG model was so good that I had to buy it. The only comparable model is the Sony XBR, and the LG is $1000 cheaper, so a much better value--and is just as good as the Sony in most ways. The 1200:1 contrast ratio and good refresh rate allows for fast-moving programming such as sports to come in clear. High-definition cable comes in crystal clear through the HDMI input. Sometimes the TV will not adjust the screen to 16:9 or 4:3 accordingly while set to the "Set to Program" aspect ratio mode, but this is easily correctable with the push of a button. Other than this and a few minor issues, this TV is fantastic and I definitely suggest looking at getting one if you're in the market for a new LCD...

    3 Months
Strengths: Great Picture for LCD, all kinds of inputs, strong table mount, good remote
Weaknesses: TV hums, even when off, manual needs to be more specific, rf inputs need to be relocated
Summary: Installed this TV in master bedroom. TV comes with a panel to be installed over the cables to give it a more professional look. The RF inputs (2) are mounted on the back horizontally, when connected, you cannot get the back panel on without purchasing 90 degree RF adapters.

The unit also hums when off, I can tell because it is a bedroom install. If installed in family room or den you would not hear as ambient noise would cover the hum. The hum is not distracting unless unit is off and room is completely quiet. The remote has a button for favorites, but I could not find in the manual how to add channels to this menu. I had to e-mail LG. They got back with me the next day with the answer. The picture is great, our family spent so much time watching this TV, I had to go buy another wide screen for the family room. The picture looks awful close to the plasma in the family room, to my untrained eye. The PIP is great, dual tuners give PIP with only one input. The second RF input is hooked to a UHF antenna and picks up ota HDTV without a set top tuner. TV has a timer which can be used in place of an alarm clock. We've had it about 3 1/2 months and I'd buy another one if I could. Oh yes the channel labeling, this set has a feature in the setup menu that lets you label each channel, most of the channel logos are included in the menu also, now this is neat. The sound is good , great in movie mode watching a DVD. If you are considering buying a LCD TV, I'd recommend this one highly, we think it's great...........
