Strengths: Quick set-up, network set-up, evenness of print quality, and price.
Weaknesses: None noticed.
Summary: Now here's an affordable color laser for home/small business use. I got fed up w/the inkjet print heads needing constant cleaning and got this Dell color printer for home use. Though it is somewhat big, set-up is a snap once you get it out of the box (need two people) and find a place for it (probably the only problem you'll face in a home environment). Toner installation is explained clearly enough and is easy enough. I connected the printer to my router for use with two computers and a wireless notebook. Installed it separately on each, the printer was detected without problems, and it works like a charm.
Print quality is very, very satisfactory for home use and would be quite sufficient for business as well. The occasional CD and DVD covers we print come out beautiful and I'm not even using laser paper (have so much inkjet matte heavy paper left). They actually look better than from the old inkjet. Colors print true to the picture and look even. The printer accepts different sizes and types of paper, have tested some, no problems. Have not tried how pictures would look on photo paper, but am curious to try since it's been said in many places that a laser printer does not come near the level of an inkjet.
The response time is fairly short and the printer seems fast enough. The noise does not bother me, it's not disturbing, though it's audible (the toner is in a carousel arrangement).
I have never been a big Dell fan, but this printer took me by surpise by being even better than I expected for normal, every day use and I have not found anything I wouldn't like about it. I cannot imagine one could find better value at the price Dell is currently selling it ($279). All the reviews I found on the net were positive as well.
