Strengths: Large number of songs, fun exercise, training mode, lots of functionality.
Weaknesses: Mediocre dance pad, too easy to unlock hidden items, some song repeats.
Summary: DDRMax2 is a very good starting place to enter the Dance Dance Revolution series; there are many many songs to choose from, including a few familiar to people outside the dancing scene, there are several different modes to help improve your performance, and the game is genuinely fun. However, some of the songs are repeats of songs found in DDRMax 1. They have different dance steps, of course, but they are subtle remixes or unchanged versions of the songs.
The included dance pad does not have enough padding for play on hard floors, and I am already experiencing problems with the controller's responsiveness.
Gameplay is simple and fun, with four difficulty levels and thirty-five items to unlock. The hidden items, though, are far too easy to unlock, as points toward hidden items are earned by merely clearing songs (a grade of D or better) or attempting new ones.
