Read More Description: At screen sizes of 60" and above, higher resolution really helps to maintain that smooth, seamless, lifelike picture quality. 1080p (1920 x 1080 pixels) is the highest TV resolution available ? TV makers are including it in their best-performing models and Toshiba's 62" 62HM195 big-screen HDTV has it. Compared to more typical 720p sets, 1080p puts twice as many pixels on the screen for pinpoint clarity. A 1080p display is a pixel-perfect match for 1080i high-definition programs, so you'll see every detail. The 62HM195 uses a Toshiba-designed "light engine" based on DLP? (Digital Light Processing). All non-HD signals are upconverted and enhanced by Toshiba's multi-step digital video processing system, which improves resolution, contrast, and color.Once you have the highest resolution available, the following step is optimizing picture brightness and contrast, and Toshiba uses two innovative approaches. First, a circuit samples the brightness level of the video signal, and controls a "dynamic iris," opening and closing it to achieve deeper blacks and higher contrast. It can reduce light output up to 75% when necessary. Also, Toshiba's lamp design is 25% brighter than than on previous models, creating brilliant images that will draw you in. The picture is plenty bright for daytime viewing, too.The 62HM195 is a "Digital Cable Ready" TV, with built-in HD tuners for both over-the-air and cable TV signals (to take full advantage of the built-in cable tuner, ask your service provider about a CableCARD). You have access to lots of channels, and you'll always know what's on thanks to the subscription-free TV Guide On Screen program guide. It simplifies sorting through and selecting programs to watch, as well as scheduling recordings to a separate VCR, DVR, or DVD recorder. Minimize |

Strengths: Easy Set-up, Intergrated Hd Tuner, Cable-Card, Separate Woofers & Tweeters, SRS WOW Sound, GameTimer for the boys. TV Guide On Screen.
Weaknesses: Did not buy the 72", P.O.P not P.I.P. Picture. Slow to change Channels.
Summary: Toshiba 62HM195 is worth the money. I can not find any reason why I would not purchase the TV again except I would buy the 72". The Picture quality is great and when A HD Program comes on it is out of this world. Sports are like no other you will think you are on the field. In fact my wife wishes me and all my buddies were. The weight (105lbs) makes it easy to move if needed. The fact that their is no moving parts inside it never needs to be refocused. I like the TV Guide on screen for those of us that do not have cable or a dish. The blues are out on this world. I did not know the News had so many colors. The tv has good sound. Toshiba 62HM195 comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY ME!!!!!!!! It's a must buy!!!!

Strengths: Incredible picture, Good overall apperance of unit, Tons of adjustments for the average user, Bright picture even in low power mode, video out, optical audio out, HDMI in...
Weaknesses: Slow menu lag times, slow channel changing times, TV Guide On Screen is terrible, Remote Hums when backlight is on, cannot accept 1080p input
Summary: I will start off with the weaknesses.
For one, TV Guide On Screen is marginal at best. Part of the problem is that the TV is on during most of the download time, ie late night, and I also blame Comcast, but you can always get a cable box instead of the cable card. Channel changeing is slow, at right under 3 seconds, but that has not been terribly bad to me. My Xbox 360 looks amazing, and the video lag time is unnoticeable. Even my PS2 and Gamecube have no problems with video lag time. I do highly recommend component cables for the PS2, but the TV is still responsive for Mario Kart using S-Video. The remote hums when it is lit, which is weird, but not that big a deal to me. The TV does still run the fan after the unit has been turned off if you are using the Quick Restart feature, but you have to live in a very very quiet area to even notice the noise after the unit has cooled down, which typically takes no more than 15 minutes. My greatest complaint is the slow menu system of the TV. Say you press the "Menu" button to change a setting or you want to change the way the picture is stretched, there can be considerable lag time in the internal menus of the TV. The tv will recognise that you pressed a button, but it does not necessarily show up right away. Sometimes it takes several seconds to respond to the remote control input. This is frusterating, but the longer I play around with the unit, the easier it is to deal with, as the signal from the remote is recognized, it just takes time. So if you know where you are going, it is not a big deal.
Strengths. Price, what can I say, the TV looks amazing and is better built than what I was expecting for the price I paid. There are a lot of slight little issues, but for me the most important thing I was looking for in a TV was picture, and this TV is amazing. DVD's played through the 360 output at 480p look great. Granted some DVDs are mastered better than others, and you can tell which ones easily on the TV, but the upconversion from 480p to 1080p is overall good.
It may sound like there are a lot of issues, but the TV is great. There are a few things that could have been improved, but overall, the TV is amazing and costs tons less than the competition. I highly recommend the TV to anyone.

Strengths: 2 HDMI connections, great looking set with speakers on bottom (only 57" wide), good remote and setup
Weaknesses: None so far
Summary: I've had this set for about 10 days now and I'm thrilled with my decision even though Directv can't come for another 2 weeks to install my hidef dish (holiday season is a drag). I've only been able to watch DVD's with my upconverting Oppo dvd player and it is just amazing. I just watched Star Wars episode III upconverted to 1080 and I was blown away. Even the sound produced through the TV's speakers was pretty terrific and allows me some time to pick out a good receiver and speakers. I did months of research and once I decided on DLP technology, the Toshiba quickly came to the forefront. The Samsung and Mitsubishi offer similar features and the picture quality with all of them is pretty darn good. Once you decide on that, it comes down to price and the Toshiba can be had for way less than the others. I purchased mine at a local NY store and paid $2699 + $249 for the matching stand. I also got a 5 year warranty that covers everything, including the bulb, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, I can't wait to watch some sporting events in HD and will update my review in a few weeks to include how that is. My guess is that I will be just as impressed.

Strengths: Picture quality is outstanding. One of the best 1080p TVs at a reasonable price. 2 HDMI slots are a plus. Sleak design with speakers place on the bottom of set.
Weaknesses: Does not have VGA slot for computer viewing (Manual states you should not attempt to use this TV for displaying computer). Remote response is slow making channel surfing frustrating.
Summary: I was very happy to get this model at a great price. When everything was connected (DTV to HDMI) I couldnt be happier with the picture quality. The manual states that you SHOULD NOT attempt to view a PC with this TV which was a negetive. The side of the TV gives you an option to insert a memory card to view pictures but it was slow to display. Unfortunately this model has some negatives that have been (in my circumstance) addressed by Toshiba. Depending on the serial number of this DLP you may qualify for an extended warranty on the lamp from one year to two years. My lamp started dimming after 9 months of normal viewing (2-3 hours per day) and qualified for a free upgraded replacement lamp from a different manufacturer. Unfortunately my light-engine also failed causing vertical lines from the center of the screen to the left side of the screen to hinder normal viewing. Toshiba stated that the light engine was on back-order and offered a replacement upgrade from the 62hm195 to the 62hm196 (improved picture processing, improved light engine, improved lamp, and VGA input for computer viewing) at no charge. If you purchase this set and dont have machanical failure you will be more than happy with the money spent. I would suggest purchasing the 62hm196 (for about the same price) and reap the benefits of having these potential problems already addressed in the updated set. DirectTV (especially HD broadcast), XBOX 360, and DVDs all look outstanding on this DLP. SD broadcasts do not look as appealing as I hoped they would have but dont hinder your enjoyment. The remote could have been designed differently to make adjusting the TV a little easier in my opinion. The remote does illuminate if you are in a dark room however. In conclusion I feel that I may have gotten a great TV that had a few problems that normally would not have occurred. If you research the issues with this TV you will see similar problems by other owners. Although I do feel that the percentages are with you (in not having any mechanical failures) when you decide to purchase this TV I also feel that for about the same amount of money you would have a greater piece of mind by purchasing the 62hm196. Worse case scenario the TV is under warranty and if Toshiba decides to replace this TV you should count on about 45-60 days before a replacement is shipped (factoring the day a service rep diagnoses the problem to the date your TV is delivered).

Strengths: I did lots of research before deciding on this TV. This is the very best DLP TV on the market. Perfect Color, black is black and white is white. Definition when watching cable HDTV Shows is the best!
Weaknesses: Slow changing of channels as it adjusts for the various definitions of the broadcasts. Remote is bulky, and difficult to use with just one hand. Speaker sound of TV itself is lacking in quality.
Summary: I went to many showrooms and compared DLP TV's side by side, and the Toshiba 62HM195 is the perfect TV for my 15' x 15' room. I would not go any bigger than this for this size room. The 72HM195 is equally as awesome, but to big for the space I wanted to put it in. The picture is incredible, almost breathtaking. Seeing every blade of grass, every torn pedal on a flower. Watching sports is like sitting in the front rows at stadium/arena, actually watching the show in the stadium/arena, and not at home. The sound of the TV itself is lacking, but if you get a great surround sound system, you won't need the TV speakers anyway, and if you've sunk so much into a TV like this, why not put money into the sound system too? Setup was very easy. It walks you through the steps. I strongly recommend this TV as the very best of the DLP TV's. Shop around! For a brand new TV and Stand, the price ranged from $2500 to $4200. You can save lots of bucks just shopping around. You won't be disappointed. For those interested, the bulb problem has been fixed on the newer releases of the 62HM195 model. You can actually go to the Toshiba website under support and confirm whether your TV model has the old (problem bulb) or new bulb. If you have the old bulb and it fails they are offering an extended warranty on your set at not cost to you. I have a newer TV, with the newer bulb, and no problems at all. This is an incredibly awesome TV. The picture when watching HDTV broadcast shows is incredible. You can see every blade of grass, every tear in a flower petal, Nature documentary movies take on a new meaning. Oh, and sports, don't even get me started on how much more enjoyable that is.

Strengths: Bright and clear picture; HD (at 1980i) from DISH satellite and local NBC air feed is outstanding. Easy set-up. User friendly remote.
Weaknesses: None at this time.
Summary: I selected the Toshiba after looking at reviews (Consumers) and checking picture quality of other makes. The Toshiba had the brightest and clearest picture. Definitely recommend the DLP chip over plain LCD. I like the 195 with its ability to receive 1080p when available. Hookup was easy; used HDMI cables to DISH HD receiver. Also purchased matching stand; fits and looks great. Assembly was a 1 hour job.

Strengths: Outstanding over the air HD picture quality. Small cabinet for big screen. Automatic aspect ratio. Brightness and viewing angles are better than many other DLP’s. Free TV Guide. Great price.
Weaknesses: Analog cable picture is not always clear. Cannot direct connect a PC. Games have a video lag time. Vertical viewing angle is narrow compared to LCD Projection TV. Slow to change channels.
Summary: Most HD viewing is spectacular. Automatically displays source signal attributes (480i, 720p or 1080i). I compared many other brands and narrowed my decision to either this Toshiba or the Sony WEGA KDF-E60A20 60" LCD Projection TV. What won me over to the Toshiba was the size and appearance since the picture quality was so comparable. The set up is pretty quick and user options are adequate. Vertical viewing angle is not as good as the Sony WEGA KDF-E60A20 60" LCD Projection TV. Analog viewing might be a disappointment for some. I am more interested in watching DVD’s than cable TV so the occasional, relatively substandard analog picture quality is not a significant issue for me. It is only poor with some of the incoming cable channels leading me to believe it may not be the fault of the TV. I have not tried the HDMI connections but Component Video inputs deliver a fine picture from DVD’s. I did not think the Free TV guide would be a noteworthy feature till I tried it. I have the TV connected to an over the air antenna for input one and analog cable on antennae input two. The TV guide shows all incoming signals for the same broadcast next to each other and you can preview and select the one you prefer. This allows you to easily compare picture quality from multiple signals without the need to first switch between antennae inputs. It takes overnight to load the TV guide data. I tried Playstation 2 with Madden 2006 and XBOX (non-HD not XBOX 360) with Halo 2 connected to the front (actually side) panel and was disappointed with the video lag time on both games. Game picture quality was OK but distorted despite my attempts to adjust aspect ratios on both the game consoles and the TV. I would test an XBOX 360 in HD mode with HDMI or Composite Video Connections on this TV before I counted on using it. Although I had hoped on surfing the web with my new TV, Toshiba makes the 62MX195 Cinema Series model that costs a lot more for that ability and boasts a few other features that did not really matter to me. I wonder why the lower priced Sharp 65-DR650 and others have no problem with direct PC connection? Videophiles might complain about the lack of detailed video settings but I am satisfied with the choices and options given. I find the P.O.P in this Toshiba useless but I rarely use P.I.P on my other TV's anyway. Overall, I'm very happy with this TV. I was also very happy with the delivery service and purchase experience. I think PriceGrabber has the easiest and most useful shopping and comparison engine on the internet.

Strengths: Integrated HDTuner with CableClear. Upconverts 1080i signal to 1080p display by de-interlacing and smoothing. JPEG MP3 PLAYER for digital media. Tuner reportedly will receive 1080p brodcasts.
Weaknesses: Light on remote makes high pitch noise.
Takes 3 seconds+ to change channels w/ different resolutions. Will not accept 1080p computer sources (try 62MX195).
Summary: 2006-01-02 10:06:02 This TV has the equal or better picture quality than the new Sony 3 lcd models. This TV gives you a lot more than other TVs for the money. The DLP has upconversion feature that will upgrade a signal to 1080p. Using a 1080i source makes the TV great for sports and fast moving action. Other TVs that are not 1080p will have a grainy picture when doing slow motion instant replay, however this TV removes the problem by de-interlacing and smoothing a displaying the picture with progressive scan.
There is an optional Toshiba DVR that uses firewire for one touch recording, and will allow you to select programs from the TV guide. This feature works well and will allow you to copy programs to additionaly Tosh DVRs. DVR will record 20 hours of HD, 80 hours regular def.
Multi-function remote works well on broad range of components. TV comes with 4 IR blasters to control external devices such as cable boxes, or hd tuners to work with integrated tv guide for recording.
Sound is very impressive for a TV. Has digital optical audio out for 5.1 sound. The TV has seperate tweeters and mids for high range sound, and has multiple audio settings for virtual surround and for improved bass settings which work noticably well.
The picture is very vivid and bright. Black levels are very good on this DLP in comparision to other DLPs. Allows user to adjust MPEG smoothing on picture as well as adjust cable clear filter (used to filter out interference on lower cable channels). Has low-level setting for the bulb which works great at night for improved bulb life. Has preset video modes for sports, movies, custom, and preference. Video modes work very well when switching between a DVD and a ball game. TV will remember which pic size and pic mode was used on which channel and will automatically remember the pic size for a certain channel and will switch if that channel starts brodcasting in HD 16:9. Allows you to pick 9 favorite channels and will do a "fav scan" which shows those 9 channels on one screen having one active channel at a time (the other 8 will freeze their picture on the screen)
Overall, this TV has everything you could want and more. The only things I would improve would be the time to switch channels and the buzz on the remote when lit, however that doesnt change what a great bargain this TV is.

Strengths: picture quality, light weight, high def tuner and analog tuner with free tv guide feature is nice
Weaknesses: The remote control is large and will take some time to get used to.
Summary: I have replaced another brand of big screen HDTV with this toshiba and so far I am very impressed. The picture quality is superior and even when watching a standard definition football game it was much clearer compared to the other. It has a ton of inputs on the back that allows for about anything I could imagine. The 1080i and 720p high def channels that I get now are extremly clear. I would recommend this tv to others.

Strengths: Easy setup, 2 HDMI connectors, upconverts 1080i to 1080p, awesome picture quality, TV Guide over the air, option for easy connecting HD Recorder.
Weaknesses: Slow to change channels (3+ seconds), low level fan noise can be heard in the absence of other noise, remote makes a high-pitched noise when it lights up, slow cycling through pictures.
Summary: Despite the speed issues I've noticed with changing channels and cycling through jpegs, the screen image quality is amazing. Watching HD programming is truly an experience with this TV. I've even had people watch programming they didn't care for (such as football) simply admiring the beauty of the image. Since the native resolution is 1900 by 1080, 1080i programming looks better than 720p on this set, yet both look outstanding. Certainly there are a few areas of improvement, yet the quality and competitive price make up for the drawbacks.
I'm still not certain whether this TV will accept 1080p over HDMI since the manual does not mention it accepting anything more than 1080i. Not that this is much of issue now since there is practically nothing that will output in 1080p, yet it could become an issue down the line. Regardless of it imperfections, I would still recommend this TV to others.

Strengths: Easy setup with DVR HD Cablebox, HDMI Interface delivers high quality images, 1080p capable for future program outputs, backlite remote, bright picture, great for gaming with my son's PS2.
Weaknesses: Some low level fan noise and remote has a light buzz.
Summary: It took a bit to figure out some of the programming with some trial and error. I had to re-cable with RG6 Quad shield cable to get out the cable noise. I added a high quality HDMI cable from my HD DVR to the set and the image is very high quality. The TV Guide works great but takes a couple of days to download all of the data. The CableClear works well and the picture quality is outstanding including blacks. Now I just needs some 1080p programs to watch and this set will really be great.

The 44 day bulb.
Strengths: Good when they work.
Weaknesses: Bulb went real fast.
Summary: It worked for 44 days and have been waiting for two weeks for the replacement bulb, still no bulb. I'm in here looking for a new TV again so I can make use of my cable bill. Now I can have a new tube or crt projection TV to watch in the same room so I do not use up the expensive bulb. 300.00 divided by 44 days equals 6.81 per day or over two thousand per year. From what I understood this was a DLP problem before I purchased it but didn't realize just how bad it was. Also, call the service number only when you have nothing to do all day and want to be talked down to.

Strengths: Picture quality is excellent. I got the HD receiver from Directv and couldn't ask for anything sharper than the 720P format I selected.
Weaknesses: Low fan noise is a bit of a distraction.
Summary: Sports events at night never looked so good. The contrast between the colors and the black backgrounds are vivid. I would heartily recommend this TV to anyone. The value for the money is exceptional.

Strengths: easy to use, to set up,and everyone that looks at the picture is overwelmed at the quality.
Weaknesses: only one, time delay in changing of chanels
Summary: I was very carefull in spending such a large amount of money for a "T V". But this is something special. I work very hard for my money. The last TV I bought was a Magnavox 32" over 15 years ago. Spending $2500.00 on something to watch television programing and movies was not on my list of things to buy. I spent the last year building our dream home and when I finished my wife told me to do something special for my self. Even then I was not up to spending so much money but she insisted. I took the time to look at all the DLP systems I could. I was very thorough. Im 55 years old and not up on all this new projection TV stuff. The more I tried to look at all the units the more I was convinced that this was the one I needed to watch football or nascar. I am looking forward to seeing the Olimpics next month. All I can say is, I would do it again in a New York minute. The best $2500.00 I have ever spent on something for just me.

Strengths: Size, Picture Quality, Connection types, and is everything a tv should be.
Weaknesses: Only weakness is that the manual does not recommend you connecting to a pc. So that shoots down all you media center pc users including myself.
Summary: Overall this tv is best buy around. You get excellent picture quality, all the different kinds of connections you need to hook up you electronic equipment, and did I mention the size and color. It's huge and you can not go wrong choosing this tv. I will not go back to any other tv that does not support HDTV after this the picture is unbelievable.
