Strengths: Easy to use and the help option is very comprehensive.
Weaknesses: Microsoft Office was a little pricey.
Summary: I have never used an Apple computer before in my life. I'm currently back in school for my second career and made the purchase after a fellow student showed me all that he could do with his 12 inch iBook. This is by far the most user-friendly and just plain cool computer I've ever owned. My poor Dell is just sitting at home getting dusty now. I can't see myself going back to a Windows-based OS.

Strengths: Great power and speed, don't let the 1.42 GHz fool you, it is fast even if that is all the higher the GHz are. Very good display and sound quaility. Built in Mic intergrates well with Garage Band.
Weaknesses: Trouble getting ariport to work but got it fixed after 3 days. Otherwise works flawlessy.
Summary: I absolutly love this machine. It has stood up to everything that i have needed it to do and is almost at one with Tiger. The sound and display are breathtaking and most of all, the performance is very good compared to windows PC's or notebooks. I have a bigger review of this product under discussions for the ibook g4 on this website.

Strengths: Great battery life, light weight, great graphics and easy to use. Great programs and great sound.
Weaknesses: Some problems accessing websites or program because of MAC incompatibility. MS programs are a bit pricey.
Summary: This is the best computer I have ever owned. I have have just switched from a PC notebook to this iBook. This was one of the best decisions that I have made regarding computers. This is a great computer and easy to use even for first time MAC users. It takes a little getting used to, but you can easily see why this is a great computer and works great. Even though the computer itself is pricey and it would have been much cheaper to buy a Dell, I choose Apple because I wanted a computer that would last longer than a year and I wanted a computer that wouldn't crash like PCs. In my last 2 months with my notebook PC, it would crash on average of 3 or 4 times a day. You get what you pay for and I would highly recommend this computer to anyone looking for a great notebook with a lot of power.

Strengths: 1.42GHz is real power; strong software bundle; 14.1" screen is briliant; Tiger just feels right; slot loading CD/DVD, buiilt-in wireless just a few of many features formerly reserved for PowerBook
Weaknesses: Dealing with Apple while trying to make the purchase - and there isn't a cup holder.
Summary: I have owned Macs since my 1984, 128k machine, and each was a step up and each cost about $1200.00. My iBook 500MHz G3 was a nice machine, but the difference between that and the 1.42 GHz G4 with 14.1" screen is like night and day. My primary use of the iBook is for creative writing, but the added speed and larger screen makes all applications more desirable. I switched to OS X 10.1 when it arrived and the Tiger 10.4 is noticeably better. From students to seniors, this is a sweet machine at a competitive price. I would also suggest that anyone thinking about a first laptop, the only question you need ask is, do I need a table mounted layout?

3 Star Reviewnew ibook user
Strengths: looks cool great battery i love the ilife stuff
Weaknesses: software compatibility touchy keyboard
Summary: i switched from a pc notebook (still have a pc desktop) to the ibook a few months ago because i was tired of futzing with software conflicts between various applications and xp / windows 98 / or worse

what i found was the ibook works flawlessly but now i have software limitations - picassa and earth from google will not load on my ibook - the map loading software for the garmin street pilot III that i was considering will not load from a mac and of course .doc documents must be exported or imported from pages (an add on word processor for mac) also working thru some email issues with fonts and attatchments that don't translate well

overall a good experience and i'm sure alot of my frustration is due to being a new mac user but i wasn't anticipating the software limitations and there's probably a million more - i know virtual pc would solve this problem and i may do that but it requires loading xp onto my mac (which i have) it seems like going backwards a bit and from what i hear the programs run pretty slow

Strengths: I love the programs and garageband. I am a musician and i love the features of garageband. Also I get free internet on airport, for neighbors have base.
Weaknesses: No weakness yet. A little pricey.
Summary: Greatest labtop ever. I was a windows user but this is 100% better. Just get a windows 2 button mouse and you are ready to go. Long Battery. Windows Users, don't be afraid to go apple.

Strengths: NO crashes like pc's, no restarts, No Viruses!!!! Great entertainment!
Weaknesses: None
Summary: This is a fantastic mac laptop, the iBook G4.

I switched from windows to macs and i do not regret it one bit!

Programs run smooth, entertaining for the whole family.

No viruses! thats a great victory for macs.

It takes a week or two getting used to the different tools on a mac from pc. but eventually you get used to it.

Amazing!

Buy one!

3 Star ReviewSwings & Roundabouts
Strengths: Stable OS. Good battery life. Nice screen.
Weaknesses: Hard to get used to if you're a Windows user.
Summary: Having used Windows for over 10 years I was excited to get the Mac after hearing how great they were. Well, I'm still not convinced. Admitted it's more stable, but I really miss my right click (I know I can do it by holding the CTRL key - but that's awkward). I hate the fact that I can't TAB through all the open fields and buttons that I'm used to doing with Windows. I hate the resizing by grabbing the corner and dragging (much prefer to maximize in Windows). Outlook is far superior to anything the Mac can offer. The things I really like are Spotlight and the iMovie/iDVD program. Overall, having used the Mac for 6 months, I now find that I only use it for editing video and burning DVDs. My day to day dealings (email, word processing, spreadsheets, accounting) are done on my Windows desktop.

2 Star ReviewOwner for 6 weeks
Strengths: Easier to read than G3 12" iBook/DVD Burner
Weaknesses: Slow modem speed
Summary: I'm disappointed in the modem speed of this new computer in dial-up. My old iMac (400 MHz) and two G3 iBooks (600 and 750 MHz) could access my IP at MUCH FASTER SPEEDS. I've returned the computer twice - have new modem, and still the most I can get is 28,800 bps!!! Be careful if you live in a rural area with no DSL or cable - Apple doesn't guarantee modem speed.
