1 Star ReviewBe careful on rebates for this!!
Strengths: Unknown
Weaknesses: Definitely needs PCI 2.2 slot.
Summary: 2007-04-09 08:52:29 Edit:

I do hundreds of dollars in rebates each year and this is the first time I have been burnt. I cut out the barcode on the back of the box thinking it was the UPC but it is an FCC ID. The one on the side labeled S/N contains both the Serial Number and the UPC on the same sticker. I don't know if they were trying to be deceitful or not but based on the internet chatter I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to be deceptive. The rebate form clearly states that they cannot be resubmitted so it's my loss. In this case the mistake was mine but please Google KWorld rebates before buying this.

My original "neutral" rating has been revised to reflect what I consider a poorly labeled box creating a deceptive rebate.

Original review:

Not much to say since I could not get it to work on the system I wanted it for. I assume it is because it requires slot PCI 2.2. I did not notice that when I bought it but since it was FAR I honestly did not do much research.

But just in case someone else wants it for an older system, make sure you have PCI 2.2. It is clearly labeled as a requirement. I just did not notice it.

3 Star ReviewTV Tuner
Strengths: Includes cable adapter, Inexpensive
Weaknesses: Low image resolution
Summary: This product is good for what it costs. Box includes coax > RCA adapter. Installation is fairly easy. If you are looking for something to replace a TV, you should spend a little more money on a better product.

Strengths: Plays and records live TV and stuff
Weaknesses: Not as good quality as the real TV Wouldn't work well with satellite or Digital cable, as this is a tuner
Summary: I purchased this for $0.99 AR, and it is well worth the money, even the before rebate price. ($30.99) It does exactly what you want, plays TV. Install was quick and painless, but that isn't saying much since I am a techie and have installed PC cards before. I think anyone could do it, it involves one screw. People just need to get past the fear of opening your computer. Software took longer to install than the hardware, but still easy. The software isn't that intuitive, but it gets the job done. If you want some better software, the card works ok with Nero Home, but the remote doesn't(not yet anyway). The remote works GREAT, even better than expected, with the TV tuner software that is included. It would work, but I would not recommend using it with satellite TV or digital cable, as you would quickly get annoyed at not being able to schedule recordings. You may think this is not good quality at first, but remember: TV is, relative to today's world, a really small picture (~270x480 pixels). Your computer monitor is much bigger, somewhere between 800x600 up to 1600x1200! This is a lot like zooming in to a small picture and making it really, big, it makes it ugly, doesn't it? The quality has not bothered me yet, and I think it is very good considering how many conversions this signal has to go through to your computer monitor. (line in from telephone pole -> splitted 4 ways -> splitted 3 ways -> splitted 3 ways again -> converted to digital (recorded on computer) -> converted to analog (VGA cable) -> and finally, converted back to digital (LCD monitors are digital)

2 Star ReviewWorks ok, but pausing TV simply doesn't work
Strengths: Good basic tuner, allows transferring VHS/camcorder to DVD
Weaknesses: Software very basic, pausing TV (TiVo/DVR feature) worthless, crashes during long records to DVD
Summary: Good basic tuner. Watching TV while working on the computer is fun, and easy. Kworld's software is a joke. No upgrades, support is in Japanese with no attempt to translate. If you pause while watching, or attempt to watch while recording, the sound starts to "loop" after about 20 seconds, over and over, while the video marches on.

On the other hand, for the price, I can input old VHS tapes of fun tv programs and wedding videos, and Camcorder movies, and turn them into DVD (once fully imported) using Nero or similar. The direct to DVD crashes on my computer (AMD64 2.2Ghz, 1G RAM, 250G HD) after about 30 minutes, destroying the DVD and leaving large temp files in unknown directories.

2 Star ReviewOkay tuner for basic use, especially with international needs.
Strengths: Supports NTSC (U.S.) and PAL (European) standards.
Weaknesses: Software is weak, and isn't the clearest tuner card.
Summary: This is a well-priced tuner. But to some extent, you get what you pay for. Its FM stereo, PAL support, and remote are all good features, but the quality is pedestrian at best. If you do choose this card, make sure you have (1) a good, fast processor, video display card, and memory; and (2) better software. Otherwise, spend more money and get a good, hardware-encoding Hauppauge.

1 Star ReviewPaper Weight
Strengths: Looks nice on back of tower as a empty slot filler. Fits well in PCI slot.
Weaknesses: Everything. Gets Poor quality.Gets No options.
Summary: Spend little more and get something else. Do some research first. Rather buy a tuner card with a known name. "Terminator" doesn't cut it. Waste time, money and more time for reselling it on craigslist or ebay. Time, money, frustration of getting a new card. NOT WORTH IT.

2 Star ReviewWell, it works. Sorta.
Strengths: Easy to schedule a recording.
Weaknesses: Poor instructions. Can only record, cannot be used to watch TV. Audio gets slightly out of sync.
Summary: Well I bought this a cheap solution to record a few shows and watch TV on my PC. While it is easy to scedule a record, you can't actually watch a TV show on the PC with this in realtime. The picture shows up but no audio. The recorded file does have the audio however. It may be a hardware incompatibility, but that doesn't explain why I have only have audio with the recorded file but not in realtime.

Now with a few other gripes, the audio does get slightly out of sync after a couple hours. This may have to do with how fast the computer able to encode the video. For reference, this was installed on a Athlon 2500+, 512MB RAM.

Another problem is recording quality. It's for the most part decent. However, to compress the video with MPEG4, you can only use DIVX. This will not work if you use XVID, which would provide better quality and is free. What's worse is that the software included wouldn't let you configure DIVX options, like implementing B-Frames so it wouldn't take so much hard drive space.

The installation was easy, and the software, despite its limitations is easy to use. The instructions were just directions how to hook up the hardware, but not really indepth.

All in all it works, but not really well. It may be easy to use, but all its limitions are too glaring. I can't recommend it.

Weaknesses: No closed caption

3 Star ReviewA not-too-bad TV tuner
Strengths: Works well on my current desktop computer
Weaknesses: Doesn't work on my old desktop computer
Summary: I have tried to use this TV tuner on both my old and new computers, so far it have worked well on my new computer. However, it does not work on my old Athlon XP 2500+ plus KT400A motherboard. Don't know why, there is not a single piece of information about this on google.

2 Star ReviewAverage Product at a Good Price from a Bad Company
Strengths: Good value due to low price; comes with a remote
Weaknesses: Software and documentation not very good; manufacturer does not honor its rebates
Summary: This TV tuner card can also receive FM audio and comes with a remote control - all at a price of around $30 or less. That's not too bad, especially since it's often advertised with some sort of manufacturer's warranty as well. However, the video quality is average at best, the manufacturer's software is not good, and the included remote control only works with the manufacturer's software. Still, I would have considered giving this three-and-a-half or four stars as an overall value, except...remember those manufacturer warranties I mentioned at the start? Well, I've been waiting well over two months for mine and still no sign, no communication from them, nothing. I checked on the Internet to see if other people were having better luck - nope, they've not been hearing anything back either. It seems this manufacturer has a serious problem honoring its rebates. Because of that, I am giving this product two stars (it works, but, if given the opportunity for a do-over, I would not buy this again). You should not factor the manufacturer's rebates into your decision making, as you are very unlikely to get that money back, and, quite frankly, this manufacturer should at least have its rebate practices investigated by local consumer affairs, if not something on a national scale.

3 Star ReviewTerminator PCI TV Tuner FM Stereo with Remote 9-Bit Color
Strengths: affordable, easy setup
Weaknesses: quality
Summary: This PCI TV Tuner is easy to install. Just put the card in the empty PCI slot, power up your computer, install the software, connect the cables, and your computer can function as TV. You can pause and record the TV, too. FM stereo is a nice addition. Picture quality is so-so, not as good as regular TV. Price is reasonable.

3 Star ReviewKworld Terminator PCI TV Tuner FM Stereo with Remote 9-Bit Color
Strengths: price, remote control feature, FM radio
Weaknesses: Documentation and support for error messages
Summary: 2007-03-23 20:03:55 Could not get this turner to work at first. The documentation for installing the card was ok, but the documentation for attaching the audio and video could only be found on the outside of the package and the font was so small that I needed a magnifying glass to read it. After installing the software and trying to run the product I received an error. I could not find any documentation on the specific error to help trouble shoot it. I am not sure I will be able to get this product to work. I downloaded all the latest drivers and programs and reinstalled everything and everything works.

3 Star ReviewOk TV tuner
Strengths: Cheap and works
Weaknesses: Picture quality, instructions and software
Summary: This TV card is an OK product. I bought it because I am going to upgrade my video card and I cannot use my ATI all-in-wonder anymore.

The installation of this card is quite easy and I didnot get any problem. However, the quality of the picture is somewhat disappointed. It is not clear as I expected. The instruction is sketchy and the software is just so-so. Anyway, if you just want a cheap but ok tuner. You may give this one a try.
