Strengths: It works as discribed. Just plug it in and plug in your network and GO!
Weaknesses: The original older version is big. The good thing is the newer model (but still same model number) now does have a smaller footprint.
Summary: 2006-11-12 18:33:52 I just wired my home and made this switch the hart of its network. Each room's network port is wired into this switch. This makes each network port in my home compatible with straight-through or cross-over cable. This also makes each port in my home auto 10/100/1000Mbit speed sensing. What this means is I just plug in my "what ever" and it works. This is what "Plug&Play" is all about! (I now have 3. My 1st 2 are the bigger version, and the 3rd one is smaller, a good thing. Other than size, they work exactly the same. Both sizes are the same model number so if you have the smaller one, you got the newer design.)

Strengths: Straight forward installation. Speed beats Fast Ethernet hands down. Can't wait for prices to come down even more then all switches/routers can be gigabit.
Weaknesses: None.
Summary: I expect to get many years of service from this unit (or at least until the new, faster ethernet connection is available). I am using it to transfer large video files from one system to another. Of course, it requires gigabit cards in my systems but these seem to be coming down in price rapidly.

Power supplies eventually fail
Strengths: Fast, easy to install
Weaknesses: Power adapters are prone to failure
Summary: My company has bought 3 of these switches. One power adapter failed just more than a year after purchase, and two other power adapters each failed within about two years. The power adapters are not covered under warranty, and a third-party company charges $35 for each replacement power adapter.
I probably won't purchase D-Link products for my company again after experiencing such poor reliability.

Strengths: easy installation, fast speed
Weaknesses: it may cause static noise on my phone system if placed too closely
Summary: I had the unit installed and it worked perfectly. However, I did notice some noise on my phone lines since the installation. I will most likely move it if the noise continues for another day or two.

Strengths: cheap, does the job, light
Weaknesses: very large, takes about 25 seconds to boot
Summary: It is a nice router for the money, but it takes a while to load; about 25 seconds. This is not really an issue though, because my computer takes much longer to boot anyway. It is also pretty big, around the size of a dvd burner, so it is harder to carry than my older 10/100 switch, which fit in my pocket.

Strengths: Easy to install, fearly inexpensive
Weaknesses: Don't know of any
Summary: 8port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch is a good small switch. I would recommend it to others. In addition to all its great features, it also comes with 5 year warranty.

Strengths: 8 ports, Gigabit fast, and the price is the best out there after rebates!
Weaknesses: LED indicator lights don't light up for 10Mb connections and it runs a little warm.
Summary: Plug and play. I just had to open the box, plug it in and connect my computers and it works great. It runs warm, but the manual says that it does that, so if you follow there directions and don't stack it on anything hot or put anything on top of it, it works great. I thought about smaller switches but for the price 8-ports was too tempting. Its fast and with all those ports there is room for more computers in the future. Good, solid, product for the money.

Strengths: Very fast. Price was great.
Weaknesses: Feels cheaply made.
Summary: This was a great purchase. Runs very fast with multiple computers using it all at the same time. Would buy again. Could be made of something a bit stronger, less plastic maybe.

Strengths: Gigabit speeds
Weaknesses: None to speak of
Summary: Upgraded from a 5-port 10/100 to this 8-port 10/100/1000 switch. Now I'm able to transfer files over my network much faster than before. This switch works just like the box describes and couldn't be more happier with the performance.
