Summary: After some research on the Web, I got the camera in
mail order at a great price of $127 including shipping.
I had read a lot of negative comments about the included
Easy Share software under different versions of Windows.
Since I have WinXP, I did not install Easy Share. After
taking some pictures, I connected the camera to the PC
via USB port. It was instantly recognized by WinXP (SP1)
which launched the picture transfer wizard. The picture
quality on the computer screen was amazing. However,
same pictures when viewed on the TV using the included
A/V cable were a bit dark. I guess the JPG to NTSC
conversion is not perfect.
The camera supports MMC cards, but one is not included.
I installed my own 32 MB MMC card and at high resolution,
it seems to store between 32 and 40 pictures.
According to the sticker on the body, its power rating
is 2 Amps at 3 Volts. I knew about this high current
consumption already from comments on the Web. So I also
bought a fast NiMH AA charger for about $17 and a set
of 4 AA NiMH batteries (high capacity 2 Ah) for $10.
So far the first pair has lasted through about 40 pictures
with infrequent use of the LCD screen.
I have yet to order 4x6 prints online, so I can't comment
on the print quality, but so far the camera has worked
great. My camera's firmware version is 1.0. I have heard
of a newer firmware on Kodak site. Is there a way to update
the firmware without using the Easy Share software?
I wish they would add some kind of (audible ?) feedback
when taking picture without the flash, in the next firmware
update.
